The first one is the one that actually truly justifies it for me, because he had nothing to gain and no emergency to complete, he just did it for revenge on Morty's behalf. And Morty didn't know, in fact, he waited til Morty was gone before doing it, so it's not like he had anything to gain in that regard either.
While he had nothing to gain, he also had nothing to lose since killing the bean cost him barely a second and involved no risk to him, and it's made pretty clear that he doesn't really value the lives of others. Add to it that it could (on its own) have also less flattering interpretations (it's not unheard of for an abuser to feel some kind of "no one touches my stuff" possessiveness towards their victims), and it doesn't really mean much on its own. The collar sacrifice is the biggest deal to me. He is literally giving up his sure chance of survival to help Morty. He consciously accepts that this will kill him. He does it anyway, without any alternative plan for his own survival up his sleeve. In the end, he did survive, but only by sheer luck. He gambled his life for the sole reason to protect Morty.
dudebladeX Theory: Evil Morty is C-137 Morty. Rick couldn't see the negative effects that the 'adventures' and verbal abuse were having on Morty's (C-137) mental health. Morty simply snapped and grew to loath Rick. [Some people don't think that Morty could be smart enough to build all those machines and control 'Evil Rick', but remember that Rick said in one episode that he needed Morty's brainwaves to 'mask his own'. That would only be physically possible if Morty had identical brainwaves to Rick (in order to cancel each other out), which makes Morty just as intelligent as Rick]. C-137 Rick realised what a horrible mistake he had made and moved to an almost identical time line - the only difference being that he only showed up in Beth's life again. He wants another chance. He tells this timeline's Morty that he's "as dumb as they come" so that he doesn't realise his intelligence, which could bode very dangerous as seen with C-137 Morty. He also takes time to goof around with this Morty because he feels immensely guilty for what he did to his original Morty. "Wubbalubbadubdub" means "I am in great pain. Please help me." Could this result from the guilt of what he did? Notice that in the 6 months that time was frozen we learn that he rarely used that catchphrase during that time. He doesn't need to use it because he feels like he's bonding with his grandchildren (but mostly Morty) and sort of redeeming himself. Rick gets teary eyed when he sees his memory of Baby Morty because he misses him, and knows that he alone managed to break and eventually ruin him.
Tbf Beth is jelous on anyone who has a relationship with her dad She even started bitching to bird person about how hes so lucky her dad chose him over her at his own wedding
You forgot when Rick wants to use a Bomb when he's drunk, and 'have a fresh start', he wants to kill everyone, but he takes morty with him, implying that Rick thinks morty is the only person that deserves to live.. (S1E1: Pilot)
he literally murdered a child and used Morty as a drug mule in that very same episode. Why was Rick even on that ship? he's the MOST deserving of death
I love Rick so much. He is such a deep character if you really think about it. He is a genius who, by all means, doesn't exactly belong to humanity. So to cope with his loneliness, he drinks. The only people who he can truly relate to, in some way, are his grandchildren. They don't know him as the man who abandoned them as Beth does. They don't see him as the freeloader who insults their dignity as Jerry does. He isn't seen as a traitor as the galaxy does. He can be who ever he wants with his grandchildren and that includes not just being himself, which not everyone accepts, but he has a clean slate with them. Everywhere else, in every dimension, he has a reputation he cannot shake. But with his grandchildren, Rick isn't the villain for once, he is the hero.
I have more evidence to back this up In the episode Vindicators three, Morty calls the vindicators "my heroes" Which probably really upset him deep down Thats why he got reaaly really drunk in that episode and almost expressed love for him on the roller coaster, i bet ge chickened out on saying it so he said noob noob instead, notice how the ride can only be activated by morty and not him?
you could have also included the scene from the parasites episode where morty has him at gun point where he mentions he's got about a thousand memories of morty and only 6 of them are pleasant, the fact that he has pleasant memories is a good one.
Reading the comics- he definitely cares. All Ricks care to a varying degree, but it's in Ricks character to push those close to him away because of how often he flips dimensions or destroys said dimensions
IMPossible Bass Jesus christ calm down, what Rick did was still undeniably shitty, it's kinda part of his character. He cares more about his family now, but he still abandoned that version of them.
Later in season 3 Ahh, not so fast Morty. You heard your mom, we’ve got adventures to go on Morty. Just you and me, and sometimes your sister, and sometimes your mom, but NEVER your dad! Another scene worth adding is when they're stealing crystals in that episode where they're in multiple simulations and start mucking around playing with one another
I think one of the most important scenes to me is in "Look Who's Purging Now" at the end when RIck hides the fact that there really wasn't any Purgenol in the food so that Morty wouldn't have to face the fact that his violent acts were all of his very own volition.
RedThorn00 true, but that can be justified. some may say so it's that morty won't know what he's truly capable of, so he can't kill rick or anyone else. I think it's still nice that rick did that, just some other people have justifications
@@RedThorn00 that's the problem though, other than true sacrifice (the sacrifice of one's life for another's) you can argue that any good deed anyone does is for a selfish reason. I just feel like people are trying to over analyse some of these things. If he didn't care for Morty and just wanted to keep living at Beth's then he'd never try to help Morty and would view him as completely disposable since he can always go get another Morty from the citadel.
Something worth noting is that in the time loop scene is that if rick hesitated to save Morty there would have been another time split and yet we see him jump in with no second thoughts on possibly dying to save Morty's life. Still can't say for sure but its fair evidence that maybe Rick C-137 has legitimate concern for Morty. Don't know if im the first to bring this up just something I've noticed.
@@Petaurista13 yea. and besides, there couldnt be 2 jerrys, summers, and beths and the rick and morty from the new universe fucked something up and died
Rick cares about everyone, even Jerry that why he deflects him so much: Jerry likes the feeling of “upping someone”, and Rick will occasionally let him get under his skin only to prove him wrong after
The part where Rick turning himself in wasn't for his family's safety it was so he could shut down the galactic government and get Jerry and Beth divorced
What i love about morty is that despite everything rick puts him through he still loves him. That is so admirable and adorable. “You love them unconditionally.”
yeah but notice how these moments are usually way more impactful? the writers definitely intend for these to mean more than the Rick being a dick to Morty moments
Notice how even though there was a second of hesitation when he was thinking about giving morty his collar, there was no split. He was certain about it.
it makes sense, there is an infinite amount of parallel universes with an infinite amount of ricks, which means theres a 100% chance that atleast one of them, would care for morty. C137 Rick, might be that rare one that actually cares.
he's like the evil type of doctor,he may seem like a jerk and rude basiaclly all the time, but he does care for his grandkids and family, no matter how he acts
I just realized that the one with the collar could mean even more because since the number of dots didn’t multiply, Rick was absolutely certain he wanted to sacrifice himself for Morty. I mean unless he was the only version of himself that had the opportunity to but still it’s an interesting possibility considering we didn’t ever see the whole screen of ricks and mortys fighting over the collar.
This is one of the things that kind of got lost as the show went on. I buy s1 and 2 Rick caring about Morty but from s4 on it feels like he doesn't go e a shit about him
I realized something The Rick here is the rick who lost Beth when she’s a child. That means Morty doesn’t exist in there. All of the others are nothing but forms that the Ricks made to abuse or torture. But this Rick… He is damn worried about this Morty and others. Because no matter how many times he tried to avenge his family, change past, or kill as many ricks as possible. The only thing holding him from being a total maniac is the fact that he doesn’t want to hurt morty. That he has a family there even though they’re not really his family. Different from all Ricks, he still has a heart. Look at the parallels, look at how he cried over the memories. He cared. He cared.
You know, I think people forget the most ricks are terrible dads and terrible grandfathers. Rick C-137 never actually left his Beth and probably never actually would’ve he’s a better Rick than most ricks
In the last one where rick turns himself in was not really a sacrifice since rick only did it to get revenge on jerry and take down the galactic federation
Mr Meeseeks A lot of people say this just because rick claims that's all that it was but when he actually turned himself in you can tell he was doing it for their good. He just said that as a recovery- a quick way to make everything return to status quo and to have the rick everyone loves and knows back from a writing/character perspective. He probably figured out how to make this all work for him once he learned the council of ricks had summer and morty.
Mr Meeseeks While it's possible, I still think that he could have defeated them without letting himself be captured, and that it wasn't his ideal plan, but he went about it that way for his family.
I really wanna talk about something I found, anyway I was playing pocket mortys and seen a morty that's description said that he was a guilt stricken Ricks attempt to recreat his dead grandson and the episode where the evil Rick aka the robot Rick was sifting through his memories and when he picked up baby morty in the memory he started to cry, take this as you will
1:02 I like this scene because it shows Ricks genuine humanity. Caring about your family is one thing, caring about people you don’t even know I another
We know he does, we’re just waiting for the one moment when some alien threatens to kill the last morty in the universe, while rick is powerless, and the alien says: “Give me ONE good reason not to kill him.” And rick says: “BECAUSE I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!”
It’s weird cause even though he cares, he still has to keep a sense of order. Like when rick said to morty that a cocky morty can be a bad thing. Then it’s somewhat shown through morty’s mindblowers and some other episodes I can’t think of rn. But I think you kinda see it if you pay attention
Rick could have put on the collar at any time. he waited for Summer and Morty to put on theirs first. I think he knew he wouldn't forgive himself if he got through it and one of them didn't. And it's a good thing he did.
That rick is the most rebellious rick ever so he rebels in the most rick way possible and that's his love for morty and so in conclusion PUT YOUR RIGHT FOOT FORWARD AND YOU LEFT FOOT BACK AND #### slide around like on a Nordic track shcooh to the left step to the right wiggle your elbows and look up into the light it's the it's the it's the rick dance!
After season 5, I now think that Rick cares for Morty not as a grandson but as his own son, since he never was able to take care of young beth and only got to see her again grown up in a different reality
the point he was trying to make is that evil Morty doesnt care about other Mortys and Ricks are naturally douches, hence why he finds stupid Rick was crying over a Morty.
should also be noted that in S3E6 Rick's toxic self cares about Morty, meaning: 1) Rick does care about Morty 2) Rick considers it a bad thing that he cares about Morty, since the detox machine separates their toxic parts based on what they consider toxic.
The small time between Rick and Morty going back home after Morty almost got molested wasn't enough for Morty to tell Rick to shoot the guy, meaning Rick already planned on murdering him for what he did.
I love when he turned himself in, he did have a plan, but he wanted to give Morty and his family happiness(except for Jerry), and as time goes on he slowly becomes better
After knowing rick’s backstory it’s clear Rick does really care about his grandchildren, child and even Jerry. Cause his own family was taken from him so he really values his current family
I think the reason I like the ‘you’re crying over a Morty?’ line is because you learn it’s being said by a Morty. That even with all the infinite possibilities he still seems surprised that there is a Rick that actually enjoys spending time with his grandson
Also too C-137 Rick lost his daughter before she could have a chance at living life. And he went to primes dimension when beth was an adult and already had summer and Morty. So he never got to witness most of those memories. Which I think is a double gut punch to that scene.
you forgot the scene where rick tries to comfort Morty in that small bar after seeing Morty so sad
what episode was it?

The first one is the one that actually truly justifies it for me, because he had nothing to gain and no emergency to complete, he just did it for revenge on Morty's behalf. And Morty didn't know, in fact, he waited til Morty was gone before doing it, so it's not like he had anything to gain in that regard either.
I never even realized that it was Rick that shot him until I saw this video

How was Rick there for Baby Morty?
He only entered their lives- *_Ohh My GOOOODDDD_*
What?
dudebladeX Theory: Evil Morty is C-137 Morty.
LamentedMusings you should do a bit of research into that.

Another scene worth adding is when they're stealing crystals in that episode where they're in multiple simulations and start mucking around playing with one another
Don't forgot that Morty wasn't real, and rick knew that, he was just tricking the alien dudes, I forgot their names
I feel like most of the good things Rick does for Morty can be justified to as something Rick does for selfish reasons, but yeah.
@@RedThorn00 that's the problem though, other than true sacrifice (the sacrifice of one's life for another's) you can argue that any good deed anyone does is for a selfish reason. I just feel like people are trying to over analyse some of these things. If he didn't care for Morty and just wanted to keep living at Beth's then he'd never try to help Morty and would view him as completely disposable since he can always go get another Morty from the citadel.

the writers definitely intend for these to mean more than the Rick being a dick to Morty moments

sparky 357 Except Jerry
I love how Rick's monobrow reflects his emotions
I just realized that the one with the collar could mean even more because since the number of dots didn’t multiply, Rick was absolutely certain he wanted to sacrifice himself for Morty. I mean unless he was the only version of himself that had the opportunity to but still it’s an interesting possibility considering we didn’t ever see the whole screen of ricks and mortys fighting over the collar.
it's kind of depressing that people need a *series* of clips of rick caring about morty, or his family in general (well, except Jerry)

The second one is prob the most convincing
Niko Te Rangiita I actually cried in that scene
I hope that there’s more moments like this in the future because honestly they’re so adorable
I realized something
The Rick here is the rick who lost Beth when she’s a child.
That means Morty doesn’t exist in there.
All of the others are nothing but forms that the Ricks made to abuse or torture.
But this Rick…
He is damn worried about this Morty and others.
He cared. He cared.
That wasn’t a memory though. If it was, he wouldn’tve shown it
theres also the scene in the episode where they go in the detoxifier and the toxic rick admits to caring about morty
the jelly bean one makes me feel all warm inside
You know, I think people forget the most ricks are terrible dads and terrible grandfathers. Rick C-137 never actually left his Beth and probably never actually would’ve he’s a better Rick than most ricks
Well, Rick cares, he just shows it in a very weird and sometimes drunk way. So when he really shows he cares. *IT WARMS YOUR HEART.*
Mr Meeseeks It may not be a sacrifice but he still states that he wants the family to be safe.
Mr Meeseeks While it's possible, I still think that he could have defeated them without letting himself be captured, and that it wasn't his ideal plan, but he went about it that way for his family.
Mr Meeseeks Yes. But he could've done all that without sending people down to the planet and save Morty and the others.
Mr Meeseeks true
I really wanna talk about something I found, anyway I was playing pocket mortys and seen a morty that's description said that he was a guilt stricken Ricks attempt to recreat his dead grandson and the episode where the evil Rick aka the robot Rick was sifting through his memories and when he picked up baby morty in the memory he started to cry, take this as you will
1:02 I like this scene because it shows Ricks genuine humanity. Caring about your family is one thing, caring about people you don’t even know I another
I know Rick saving Morty is supposed be an emotional moment but the
"What the hell!?, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME MORTY!" Gets me everytime
We know he does, we’re just waiting for the one moment when some alien threatens to kill the last morty in the universe, while rick is powerless, and the alien says: “Give me ONE good reason not to kill him.”
And rick says: “BECAUSE I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!”
The more rick cares the more he weakness he felt lonely so bad that in 4 to 5 his as weak as his suppose to cause nobody loves him anymore
My favorite is when Rick "sacrifices" himself for Morty. "I'm good with this. Be good, Morty, be better than me.". 😭😭
1:05 love that movement of animation
Did you really need proof?

Rick is from dimension C-137
should also be noted that in S3E6 Rick's toxic self cares about Morty, meaning:
1) Rick does care about Morty
2) Rick considers it a bad thing that he cares about Morty, since the detox machine separates their toxic parts based on what they consider toxic.
Yeah Rick believes nothing matters and makes a point of it often so he feels like a hypocrite going against all logic because he cares about morty
1:02-1:27 he prolly had flashbacks of beth and diane
Aw! Thats so sweet!
