I would 100% watch a video on how to mix metals. Husband is convinced that every piece of hardware in the whole house must match or the house “looks thrown together”
Me too! I’d love some tips on mixing metals
SAME! ❤ please make one
My husband is the same!!! Lol
Yes
Yes please make a video on mixing metals!
I love that you teach technique and not just trends. And I love that your style is very classy.
Great video advice today! Personally I feel that a small room painted a dark colour becomes something of a warm hug or a cozy wrap, so comfortable and soothing
Yes, more mixed metal discussion! I’m always torn about introducing a different finish in the bathrooms.
I’ve watched every single one of your videos when we just purchased our ideal home. I made a bold decision to paint the media room and my office dark. They are now my two favorite rooms in the whole house. I also took your advice of layering lighting and woah what a difference. ALSO took your advice on DIY turn down service- also wow, my husband loves it and it’s just something I do now every week night before dinner.. amazing advice we can actually implement
Love the dark paint in small rooms ❤️ You look fantastic ☺️
I've never tried decorating my space as I thought I would just suck at it. Your videos have helped so much! I've gained some confidence and have my bedroom 90% done. It makes me smile all the time. As someone who struggles with anxiety, having a well designed space is another tool in the box to help. Also, a mixing metals video would be great as I have many copper pieces that I love and am trying to incorporate them throughout my space. Thanks!
I like this channel. No crazy long boring intro or outro. To the point. I appreciate it.
Yes please make a video about mixing metals! 😊
I had a jealous person visit me recently and she criticized literally everything in my home but I finally broke when she said the beautiful white stone around my fireplace should be painted to better match the walls. I laughed so hard and said I'm not painting the damn stone are you crazy. God, some people just can't be happy for you.
So awesome that you mentioned the ceiling colour does not have to be white!! I've been painting my ceilings different colours for years and I love it. Still need to try wallpapering the ceiling.
Especially in the bedroom, when I wake up and look at this boring white, I dont want to get up anymore.. but when the ceiling looks interesting, it wakes me up even more!
@@t.a.yeah. Exactly! 🌞
Do a video on mixing metals! Do a video on mixing metals! 🥳
Awesome video! It's like the "rules of fashion" that just exist to sell us books and magazines, etc.
Also, thank you so much for converting inches to cm!! Super helpful and considerate haha
Such a revolutionary concept for me : ceiling as the 5th wall !!! Possibilities become endless! Thank you for this video and btw, lovely earrings 😍
Well, here is someone who paints everything white: small rooms, dark rooms, big rooms, ceilings 😂😂😂 But loved your points! ❤ I'll try to be more open-minded about other colors...maybe I could start introducing a warm white? 😅😂
start small 😂
Like my mother, everything white, black was banned from everywhere. The black tiles in our rented home were hard for her to bear.. :D But I like a little black. I ban grey, haha. I like colours, especially warm ones.
Warm white already sounds good, have a try! :D
@@t.a.yeah. I am not all white! In fact, my floors are dark brown. And I also have plenty of green in my house...But my walls...always white 😊
Definitely would appreciate a mixed metals video!
Just in time as I was looking for something to watch! Love the content! Would love to see the video of matching metals. Thanks!
I painted all my bedrooms white and I feel they are cold, clinical looking especially as Autumn is hear and I love Autumn colours so now looking to repaint the walls
@CCRider very true but it’s really splitting hairs by choosing a slightly warmer white over a slightly cooler white. It all still reads white!
Great video!... lots of useful information......loved hearing you say mixing metals is ok to do....I would love to see a video on how to mix them..... interesting knowing the myth about house plants purifying the air is not true, I've always heard that as well..... much more mentioned as well...thanks for such an eye opening video! 😊
They do but you need like 600 of the them in the house for it to work LOL.
I like the har way to express things openly 👍 more clear thanks
yes, for the mixing metals video. 👍
I would love to see a video on mixing metals. I have trouble doing that and would find a video on how to do that beneficial.
Ty, can never get enough of you and decorating tips!!
I always enjoy your videos when they pop up! Your always accurate. And always give something more or different to the other channels like yours
Love your videos. I’ve learned so much. A video about painting ceilings in a color would really be welcome
what about painting brick? Thoughts and opinions?
I loved this video, great and nuanced advice! Also would love to see a video on mixing metals 😊
I mix metals but generally I stick with two metals and make them opposite of each other. So shiny brass with a dull chrome for example.
You so sweet, omg, I can watch your videos forever. I love them more than Lane Fox's ones. There's something to your style that makes me want to watch your videos. Thank you so much!
We painted our small hall bath with a darker rust color and are loving it. We also painted the ceiling the same color. I sometimes second guess but I really am glad we went bold! It has a mosaic tonal blue floor to accent!
Finally someone came in favor of dark color in small spaces! I had a huge fight with my painter (we are friends, so its all good) about painting my small dining room in dark flat color. I won. It's my house after all. Now it's a "wow" room that everyone loves.
You are rocking that two-tone hair. How do you pull that off?! It looks edgy and elegant all at once.
My grandmother wallpapered the ceiling in a guest room with a medium scale rosebud pattern. Identical pink rosebuds with green leaves on a cream background. Whenever I stayed in that room, I would gaze at that ceiling in total adoration. That was 60 years ago, and I have never forgotten it.
Absolutely one of my favorite videos!!! I learned a lot and feel open to fresh ideas for my home! Thank you!!!
I would love to see a video on mixing metals. I think it is such a cool look but can be tricky to pull off. Thanks!
Me too!!
Would love a video on mixing metals! We just bought a early 2000’s home with EVERYTHING satin nickel. Would love to get your take on mixing it with over metals vs replacing all, which I likely couldn’t do all at once anyway.
mix metal video please !! your videos are very helpful!!
Over the years, we have painted our smaller rooms both dark and light colors and, honestly, dark walls and/or ceilings just don't work for us. Not only did the rooms feel smaller, but the darker colors were depressing once the novelty wore off. We've tried navy, olive, dark gray, and burgundy (one at a time, not altogether!) and the whole family agreed...not happy or welcoming spaces. We needed to compensate with more light fixtures and lamps, plus brighter/lighter colors in the furnishings, which was just too much work to make a room comfortable when a coat of paint did all that work for us. We are much happier (and our rooms are much more attractive) with lighter colors and natural light. I use dark colors in flooring or as accents to satisfy my need for contrast and interest.
I love the ceiling color ideas! I have never thought of it.
Totally need a video on mixed metals. I’m totally lost on this! Thanks for your videos. Love them!
Yaaayyyyy you finally made a new video. have been waiting for ages. Thank you so much. And as usual, its excellent, inspiring and on point. 🏆🌞🌻🎉🎉🎉🌻🌻🌻
Yes please a video about mixed metals!
Great video as always. Educational, funandwell edited. Thanks, Viv!
Yes! Mixed metals video please!!
In other words, do what you want in your home. Regardless of what others think and say. Great tip's!
The ceilings in our new apartment is a real topic for me - thanks for the video❤ helped me a lot to maybe find some opportunities to take some attention to the ceilings
Interesting concept on small rooms/dark paint… and non-white ceiling! thank you for busting so many myths
Wife and I were debating the merits of a dark ceiling in our hallway. I threw a swatch of paint up there while I was changing a light fixture and she was instantly sold. Hallway is 3x20, so very constraining. Going with light gray over dark gray on the walls and an even darker gray on the ceiling. Test patches look amazing.
Yes please how to mixed metal 👍🏽
Yes, Mixed metals please!!!!!!
What about the myth that you can’t hang a tapestry of dogs playing poker on your living room wall without making your home appear tacky and unsophisticated? 😉
YES! Mixed metals 😊
We definitely think alike 👌🏻 I love that you posted this video with this information because it just feels validating as an interior designer myself as I’m trying to retire but I’ve been an interior designer for 27 years and people don’t want me to retire but it will always be my first love. I just love your videos! 🙏🏼❌⭕️❌⭕️🤩
Great video, thank you! Yes please do a video on mixing metals!
So interesting your comments about mixing different kinds of metal, please make a video talking about it if you can, love your channel 😍😍😍 thanks for sharing your wisdom🙏
Great video! So glad you brought up mixed metals!! We're remodeling our kitchen and I love our nickel faucet but I really want bronze or gold for the drawer pulls. Also, I love using mixed metals for photo/art frames. Thank you!!
Just go for it! It did it in my kitchen (we have silver faucets too) and it looks stunning! I get a lot of compliments and wows.
All good points. Thanks!
I appreciated it so much! Surely, I would love to know how to combine different metals! Thank you! 💜
Great video. Yes to mixed metals.
Yes please for video mixing metals
Great advice on those little dark rooms, hard to know what to do with them
Love to see video on mixed metals 👍
Yay, a new video!! I've been waiting for weeks, and even checking your channel to make sure I haven't missed any! 😂😅
So a couple thoughts on the decorating myths. Firstly, it's pretty clear that dark, moody rooms are having a moment right now - charcoal greys, moody maroons, even black or deep slate blue, etc. A pretty big moment, even. But unless this trend becomes the Big New Thing (i.e. the way white has been a pretty enduringly popular wall color, even with the craze for light greys over the last few years for example), I get the feeling we'll see it begin to be on the way out within the next 2 years max. So for that reason, if someone is thinking they may sell their home in the next few years, I would not recommend committing to this dark of a color palette. Even now, these charcoal greys and deep purples are pretty niche, and I think this trend is either already hitting its zenith or is about to be. I get the feeling that the light to moderate wood tones for furniture and kitchen cabinets + various shades of sage and jade green paint tones are here to stay, at least for a few years, but I think that the dark room paints are going to be on their way out soon, because it's such a bold statement. And if there's anything I've learned about room design, it's that the boldest statements tend to last the shortest amount of time in popularity. Idk. That's just me. I do admire the bold, moody look, as I have seen it done gorgeously, but I have a bad feeling about it being gone soon. And that's a poor return on investment, both timewise, psychologically, and financially, to have to turn around and repaint that soon.
Secondly, the other thing that's clear to me is that designers are literally bored about the whole hardware thing. First it was chrome in the early thousands. Then it was luxe gold for the Hollywood look and then brass and pewter for the farmhouse/transitional/moody modern types in the aughts. And now that designers have finally gotten everyone on the bandwagon of things like pewter or brass or copper, they're bored. It's not niche anymore to have matching hardware in the "right" finish. Everyone has followed the instructions to have the most updated matching hardware and so now that - gasp - even the poor and middle class people have it, it's boring. I just wish that designers could acknowledge that the reason they're suddenly so determined - after decades of staunchly instructing on this very thing - to get away from uniform hardware is that they want to differentiate themselves from the poor sops who followed their advice in the first place to have that matching hardware in whatever vogue material.
I'm just suddenly seeing all this "advice" popping up from designers everywhere on mixing hardware, as if it's some revolutionary idea and not what has been anathema in design for forever. Sorry we followed the rich people's advice and now that the poor and middle class have it, it's time for the rich designers to move on.
🙄
Anyway, I always love your videos and I definitely see how you effectively bust a lot of those myths! That's just my 2 cents on those ideas!
Yes to a mixed metal video. ❤
I painted my entire office on the dark side of the house in a gorgeous mid-olive green and it is SO much better than the dingy bluewhite before
Yes, please do a video on mixed metals and thank you for the great information
Totally agree. On every point. Especially about original wood trim in homes. Sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes it's just God awful. And I think it looks so elegant painted.
Thank you for this information.
Once again you have explained beautifully. Keep growing
Metal mixing video, yes and it would be a definite watch!
Great video, yes, I would like to see a video on mixing metals, I love your videos, please keep them coming
Very helpful video. Yes I would like a mixed, thx
this was a great video, thank you !
I’d love a video on painting woodwork and window frames.
I know it’s great to contrast them with the walls but don’t know how to do it.
Great points! I’ve recently painted my living room dark blue except the wall facing the window- so any light (which is a bit limited tbh) is bounced back into the room. It was all white previously and you’re exactly right the colour in the permanently shadowed areas was an uninspiring dingy grey. Very pleased with my midnight blue, it’s added a whole new dimension to the space (never thought of it in terms of depth so thanks for that!). I also changed my death-by-beige furniture for lovely deep orange velvet sofas which really contrast well with the blue…and they have brass-tipped legs which has made me introduce a few other gold touches around the room even though my main metal is brushed pewter /silver. Thought it would really bother me but I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it all gels together, just by keeping to a brushed appearance. My ceiling is still white though as it runs into my kitchen space. Great video!
Excellent videos! Would love to see a video on mixing metals.
MIXED METAL VIDEO!!!My partner is building our house right NOW and we have to pick finishing and appliances. We love the look of copper but we are hoping to mix it with stainless steel. A video from you would be so helpful right now 🙏 you’re the only designer I take advice from because you have timeless taste.
yes! please make a video on mixing metals! that would be awesome
Yes to a video on mixed metals!!!❤
A mixed metal’s video would be appreciated. Thank you ❤
Yes, please do a video on mixing metal finishes!
Here for the myths, but really appreciate your wit! 😉
Love your videos!!!
Great 👍 very informative
This is great! I thought for a while some of these myths can’t be true. lol Thank you for posting!
I loved this video. I would watch a video on how to mix metals!!! I'm thinking about doing this in my space soon!
As much as I enjoy beautiful wood accents in a home, I think few people realize how much original wood in very old homes/ buildings was painted from its installation. Painted floors and trim isn’t exactly a new thing. Not only have I seen this in countless old homes where I live, but this information is online, too:
“Paint. That was the traditional finish of earlier Federal style homes, of the late 1700’s, and that carried well into the 1830’s. Woodwork, baseboards, doors, wooden mantle pieces, built-ins, window and door frames were painted.”
I have a small bedroom, and a friend and designer recommended to paint one wall a dark green. I hesitated bc of myth no. one, but then went ahead and did it anyway. I TOTALLY LOVE IT. I mix the green with earthy colors for textiles and it couldn’t be more cozy and cave-like. 😊
These tips are so good. Yes, please make a mixed metals video!
I'm not sure if this is common, but I saw another UA-camr mention how to layout furniture in a room. For example, if you have a "square" room, don't use a "rectangle" layout because it won't fit. You can use a "triangle" layout instead. Is this something you also practice when decorating? I would love a video explaining these layout shapes if it's real!
I love mixing metals!
That was good! Thank you. Can you also make a video on mixing metals please?
I never heard that plant purifies the air. What I did learn in my elementary school science class is that plants releases oxygen through photosynthesis.
great video!!!
Great blouse 👍
Thank you for sharing
Great show.
Please do a video on mixed metals. What goes with chrome other than black.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my white walls, blond woods, and white ceilings and am so grateful to finally have them! I'll never part with them.
Mixing metals video? Yes please :-)
I would love a video about mixing metals!! :)
Great video! And yes please for how to mix metals video!
