*Clear the Fridge* . I clean homes, nothing aggravates me more than a cluttered fridge. I'm not moving all of that "stuff" and based on some clients, they haven't moved it either in ten years. My coffee maker is the only small appliance on my counter and it sits in a tray, all the others are stashed in a cabinet. While I love Dawn dish soap, it serves me well beautifully decanted in an amber pump bottle.

Another tip for keeping an area from becoming a dumping ground for items.
I have an eat-in kitchen & was constantly asking family to put their things away.
A trick I use to keep all the stuff off the table was to set it the night before.
No place for anything to land!

Thank you for your great tips! I moved to a new place recently and applied some of your tips. I decluttered the counters until there's only one small appliance, a drying mat, and nice soap dispensers. I also got myself a thin, good-looking cutting board that looks pretty on the drying mat and I can still tuck it away in the cabinet when I know I won't need it for a while. It took me about a month to gather the things I needed (because I waited until they're on sale), but now I have a lovely small kitchen!

Then you threw in other options with images that was well thought out and executed perfectly! Love how you also included links to certain products and tips in video. Bravo! I found a decent kitchen faucet (used) for $50, one free chrome faucet for the bathroom, one I bought for $45, knobs for $25, caulking for $10, and a new switch light plate for $2.50, and a set of two LED ceiling light fixtures for $30.
So far I'm very pleased with these changes 😁

I tried the strip lights and they died within a week. I love my pantry, which hides containers. I like my red microwave and electric kettle, which give me pleasure. I painted my cabinet doors green and have lots of art in my kitchen. I used peel and stick Mexican style tiles which brightened the backsplash. There are a lot of good tips in this video.

One thing to keep in mind with jars and containers is that some things are light-sensitive. Things like most spices, oils, protein powders, tea leaves and coffee beans should *not* be stored in transparent containers but in tinted or opaque containers. So it’s best to have both kinds of storage!
The tip with the dish soap is great! I have long had a soap dispenser for my bathroom, but I’ve never actively seen refill bags for dish soap. I’ll look out for it, though, and buy a soap dispenser for the kitchen! Another thing I’m unsure about is how to decorate or hide the little things that are almost always in the open in my kitchen, like honey, maple syrup, tabasco, and small stuff like that. Or maybe I need one of those condiment baskets that I can easily put away after use?

I wouldn't do art and lamps in the kitchen. We need to keep it practical for food preparation. It s sometimes enough to get rid of old cutting boards, ugly soaps and old plates to get a luxury look. It s easy to splash things in the kitchen and I wouldn t like to wipe the tomato sauce from my art or lovely lamp. The easier the kitchen is to clean, the better.

I totally agree with you on this 👍👏👏👏👏. I try to keep my countertops as empty as possible so that they are as easy as possible to clean. I also don't have open shelving for the same reason, we tried it about 13 years ago and even things that we used regularly got yucky 😜.

I love your video. Straight to the point! I’m in the kitchen all day especially with my almost 2 year old daughter so I like creating a cozy & clean ambience. My must haves are the tv screen on my fridge which I can turn on UA-cam to play smooth jazz or set a floral wallpaper. I love my google nest to set the timer, give me the time, play music, or tell me the weather when I look outside my kitchen window. I love having my oil diffuser on which not only changes colors, but gives a nice mist. I can’t live without candles, or a good smelling dish detergent. I have a strip light both above & under my cabinets & depending on my mood, I’ll turn it on to a certain color & it makes me happy. I also like seeing my plants every morning I wake up & I give him a tinkle of water. I guess we just need to figure out what makes us feel happy & that will make your kitchen feel high end to you. I haven’t added a picture frame or books or lamps, but I feel they’ll get greasy if they’re in the kitchen.

Decluttering and decanting are awesome ideas, but paintings above the range? Or a table lamp taking valuable countertop space with the cords hanging out? Does anyone actually cook in that kitchen? Stick on tiles look cheap in person no matter how well they photograph, the same goes for stick-on under-the-counter light strips.

Wonderful suggestions except for drying mat for those of us who cook for a family practically everyday. We NEED to have a dish rack to hold many dishes, pots and pans etc. Also, in our home, it’s more practical to keep it out at all times. That’s about the only thing I can’t change.

Well if you have big sink, put in there, it will be hidden but completely usable.

    • @wendylang2360
      @wendylang2360 11 місяців тому +1

Use both & reserve a shelf in a cupboard or pantry to hide them. What I mean is - wash up & place items on rack. Allow them to dry there as long as possible. Place mat alongside & then sit rack on it - then shift dishes, rack & mat to that spot you reserved on shelf out of sight. (By shifting rack on the mat, you don't have small items falling through.) This is also a way to move items out of the way when you have a really big amount & want to keep washing up but the rack is full.
I used to have a little ditty above my sink - "Thank God for the dirty dishes,
They have a story to tell
For some in this world go hungry
But we are blessed to eat so well."
      Happy Housework
      Wendy

She thinks she has to save world single-handedly, so the drying mat is always occupied with lots of washed cans, bottles, jars and other stuff waiting to go into the recycling bin.

I'm surprised at the amount of negative comments on this channel, some people seem to forget that lots of people are renting and having electricians in or replacing existing cupboards are not an option. These people would love my apartment 🤣 I have 5 doors and a window, all different sizes and moldings, hardly any cupboards, 2 feet of counter space, no room for a dishwasher because the washing machine goes in the kitchen, the dryer goes in the back porch 🤣 But I've always had open glass shelves and framed art on the walls, just make sure it's framed under glass and horrors yes you have to clean it regularly.🤣😂 But it makes me happy.

I agree with what she is saying. I have a very small kitchen and I cannot store things off of countertops or put things like lamps taking up my precious countertop space. All my cabinets have to hold everything …I don’t have room for decor - open shelves. We are going to start a kitchen remodel and I am excited but fundamentally the space is not going to be sooo big that we can do a lot of this

I have to admit I hate lamps on countertops in the kitchen, this is a North American thing. It's just going to get greasy 😜. I prefer minimal design, Australian architecture is my absolute favourite 😍😍😍😍. And I think that art works in the kitchen are also not going to be a great idea, same grease problem. The images you show look lovely, but it's just for the shoot, not everyday life.

JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVED 😍 ❤ ALL YOUR IDEAS 💡 ❤ PRACTICAL ,MAKES SENSE AND JUST WORKS 💪..MORE TIPS ON FOYER AND EMPTY SPACES VS STORAGE PLS ...I ALWAYS HAVE A TOUGH TIME DECIDING BETWEEN LEAVING A SPACE EMPTY OR FILL IT WITH A STORAGE USEABLE SPACE ... THE EMPTY CLEAN WALK-THROUGH OF A FOYER MAKES ME FEEL LIKE ITS A MORE EXPENSIVE PLACE THAN FILLING IT UP ..HOW MUCH IS TOO LITTLE AND HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH ...?

I love the look of decanted items, but not the thought... If there's a little bit left, and you put more on top, at some poi t ypu'll have some really old food in the containers. The reasonable thing would be to use up everything in the container before refilling, but that means you need extra space somewhere to keep stuff in the original packaging. Also: expiry dates: how do you know how old things are?

Decanted in the front, the remainders in the back. I use up until empty then replenish. The handles on my containers are so much easier to work with. But I don't do it for everything either. The things I use frequently enough the expiry date is a non issue.

I cut the expiry date labels out of the packaging and put it on the back or inside the pretty looking container.

You got some great replys for your concerns, to add to them I would like to add that I decant foods like pastas, sugars, rice, dried goods like peas and beans and snacks wrapped in their packages, if you get my drift, that way you won't have to wait for the container to finish before you topping them up

I just bought 3 matching vases from a thrift store. They're cute and they were like $1 each. Only issue was I had to rid of (what i assume was 70 year old) pasta and dusty noodles out of them, first. As I am doing this, I am thinking _this is silly, why are we putting pasta in vases and jars_ ?
The only thing I jar in those pretty organizational jars/containers are baking powder w/a baby spoon, washing powder, things of that nature.
I don't want someone empty my 70 year old rice or pasta into the trash, 70 years from now, thinking the same about me 😅

@@ei_maj Works great for me as we use these food items on a regular basis, we don't have much cupboard space and I can see straight away if they need topping up without having to go through the cupboard as they fit nicely on my countertop, if it didn't work for them or if it does not work for you then I totally get it

I'd put them all on a sheet pan - new or experienced, depending on the decor of your kitchen...or paint it black! Hang it as art!
