The interviewer, as I have said before, is wonderful in his role. He knows when to talk and when not to talk, and delivers the questions smoothly. He asks the right things.
Oh, what a great score and a great opportunity, Pete! Please try to persuade Jake to do a part 2. He's a great writer and possess a wealth of knowledge about Asia and much much more.👍
There’s one author, John Burdett, has many novels set in Asia. You may even find then in local library . Bangkok 8, Godfather of Kathmandu, etc … lots of the stuff guys like :) hah
Wish I found your channel sooner. Very interesting to see the expats perspective in my country, not the usual sweet words bullshit to get more engagement with Thais. Well done brother.
Chance, fate, work can all lead you to where you live and settle. The more I look at the UK the more it drives me to want to get back out to Thailand. Chance led me to Thailand, but then maybe it was my fate and now I have to make the choice to return.
James Clavell kicked a big goal writing about white men in Asia. Although not contemporary. The world of Suzie Wong at the time was contemporary. It was made into a massively successful film
Would love to hear him talk more about the 80's and 90's when I was there. (It's a wonder I never heard of him or ran into him at that time, as I moved in wide expat circles and met hundreds of expats. He never went to the fantastic "open bar" Friday parties at the Australian Embassy on Sathorn or joined any of the many chambers of commerce? What part of town did he live in back then? What were his favorite places -- restaurants, bars, shops, pubs -- in Patpong? A whole group of us expats used to sit out in front of Bobby's Arms Hotdog Stand and watch the moveable feast going by, with loud club music included.) Not a fan of fiction. I have read 99.9% non-fiction all my life. Would like to hear a lot more of his real-life stories.
That is a good "get" Pete. Kudos. Mr. Needham is a smart, yeoman-like author of harmless genre fiction. It's a shame about his politics. I'd be willing to bet you had to cut about five minutes of rant out of this.
I don't agree with what he said about people not choosing where they want to be. I used to live in Portugal but then chose to live in Thailand because it's more affordable and the climate suits me. I live in Phuket at the moment which I love but I recently visited Bangkok so I may choose to move there in the future. My friends here also chose to move here for different reasons. I met so many expats in Algarve where I lived who chose to retire there because of the climate and for those coming from countries like USA, a more affordable lifestyle.
Big man gd Problems are how angels prepare for the role Im here 19 years I walked on a street in Bangkok and slipped into the city of angels gods and immortals the abode of god soon to be good. Its kind of weird I was born in number 36 I kinda know what it means . Karma knows you others knows who you should have been and can untie rewire you bring you through hell and burn off exactly whats needed 01 Pure chance I like being there .
The future the past heaven and hell are all here it's a lab we of the mind nothing is as it seems , oh and it's ground zero for the apocalypse, Rendezvous with rama the eye is much more !
I don't know where you got that. I have 15 books on Amazon and the e-book editions are priced from $5.99-$7.99. As I recall, the paperback editions are all $18.99.
Not wanting to publish novels out of BKK reflects more on the puritan mind set of westerners. God helps us if all the woman were like this publisher; but most puritans are of the same cloth.

The 1990s were the best

$123 dollars for his book by the way.. lol

Explains why I can't find anything to read, and why most of literature is now trash.
interesting dude. a little too self-important and a Trump lover...
Could never get through one if his books, boring
