  • The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is today expected to announce this month's adjusted fuel prices as South Africans face a high cost of living and energy crisis. It is anticipated that the price of petrol will increase beyond R23 a litre, and diesel is expected to decrease by between 31 cents and 57 cents a litre. The cost of illuminating paraffin is slated to come down by around 32 cents a litre. The Automobile Association (AA) says the decrease in diesel and paraffin prices is certainly good news, especially as the country enters colder months. But the increases in petrol prices will add more strain to already stretched budgets, and consumers are advised to revise their budgets accordingly. To talk more about what to expect and the cost to consumers, we are joined by Dawie Roodt, Chief Economist at Efficient Group. Good morning.

Recessions are part of the economic cycle, all you can do is make sure you're prepared and plan accordingly. I graduated into a recession (2009). My 1st job after college was aerial acrobat on cruise ships. Today I'm a VP at a global company, own 3 rental properties, invest in stocks and biz, built my own business, and have my net worth increase by $500k in the last 4 years.

Let's face it... buying more stocks & index funds during stock market corrections and bear markets is scary. Which makes it really hard to do for most people like me. I have 260k i want to transfer into an s&s isa but its hard to bite the bullet and do it.

I agree with you totally Rose, Yes they can be positively impactful to an individual's portfolio. I started with a trust Financial Adviser named "Jackson Sten Marsh". He is verifiable and he work ethic complies with the US Investment Act of 1940. He approach is transparent, allowing full ownership and control of my portfolio with very reasonable fees relative to my portfolio earnings.

There's a border where the people will have to stop adjusting their lifestyle to fit the government's narrative. The government needs to learn how to budget and they need to know what's going on.

I am currently in Italy. The petrol price over here is the Rand value of approximately R43 per litre. The petrol price in South Africa is still some of the cheapest in the world.... Count your blessings....

You probably don't even know that the government general fuel levy is currently at 18% of retail cost, and the raf levy is at 10%,so 28% of the fuel price/liter goes to government but hey,the politician has spoken 🤣🤣🤣

Italy is part of various green taxes and deals. You also can not compare fuel prices based on the exchange rate because the stronger currency will always have a higher cost. The average wage in Italy is R55k, which is double than what it is in SA. So if you take it according to your example, we pay R3 per liter more on a per wage basis, and that is BEFORE the increases ahead.
