My earliest memory of Mobile Suit Gundam isn't really anything to do with Wing, although my six-year-old brain certainly thought Wing was cool when it got to play just a tiny bit of Battle Assault 1. When I was five years old, before we had a PS2, I remember spotting the cover of this RPG-looking Transformers game for the PS2 at our local Blockbuster--though it sure didn't look like any Transformer I knew. I couldn't fathom this *thing* called Gundam, nor could I understand what 'Jaburo' was, but all I could tell was 'dang this Transformer looks cool, shame we don't have a PS2.', never mind the fact that we couldn't rent it anyway because I was too young. I think it was the strange eyes and the demon horns that really sank into me. There's something about the RX-78's appearance that, from the right angle, gives it the ability to stare right into your soul. But while the name 'Gundam' stuck with me for a long time afterward, I didn't really consider that Journey to Jaburo and all other Gundam works were related until *after* one of my cousins showed me the PS2 Encounters in Space game and I picked it up for myself in the weeks after. It was only then that I could truly say I 'knew' what Mobile Suit Gundam was. On an unrelated note, can we talk about how vague that clip from 1:22 - 1:23 is? I realize now it's supposed to be from Iron-Blooded Orphans (...I think) but I feel like you could make a valid case for it being from *any* of the mid-2000s Gundams. They certainly get dark and edgy enough to fit the bill!
My first gundam experience that i can remember was playing Gundam vs Zeta Gundam, and what an experience that was. ever since i remembered this i've really wanted to get into watching gundam and stuff like that, but i never know what the good series are so to speak, i've heard some are just really bad (nobody ever said more than that though, i hope this series covers those ones!) and i don't wanna randomly stumble into that Does anyone have like a good gundam viewing list or recommendations for good ones to start with please lemme know!
The original show has a a movie trilogy that gives you the foundation of the beginning of the UC timeline, I watched 08th MS team before I watched the original show and it was pretty good. The Thunderbolt films/shows are also really good with an awesome soundtrack. My biggest recommendation though is where I started with Iron Blooded Orphans. It is the best starting point in my opinion as it is a standalone and it also doesn't look super dated either.
i like that the 78 looks like it's been woken up from a nap
I love this so much. The dramatic presentation is the only way to tease a Gundam analysis like this.
Freedom Fighter Gunboy is my favorite anime
Seed and Destiny really predicted the direction of 21st century talk about a soft reboot lol
Lol perhaps the "The Year is 2020, society has progressed very little" part
HELL YEAH! I’ve been waiting s long time for this, Argonbolt! I’m very excited to see how it turns out!
My man's, in the words of somebody on the net, "LET'S FUCKIN GO!".
fancy seeing you here!
