Chris, you have the curious effect of being both calming and exciting at the same time. Calming because your reasoned approach and excellent presentation make everything intelligible. Exciting because the new horizons you reveal through these continual 'light bulb moments' make me want to pick up my guitar and explore. It's wizardry!
Thanks, Chris! Didn't realize I was already using sequencing in some of my playing. I've got many more ways to practice and put it to work after this video. Well done! Cheers!
The broken thirds sequence really pushed my playing when I learned it a few years ago, but I think the root fifth sequence is going to be just as effective. Thanks!
As always, a fabulous lesson! Learning from you over the past several months has been transformative. I am now seeing and hearing far deeper into the Scale the fretboard, and indeed MUSIC itself, than I ever had before. Sequences inside the fabric of a Scale is pretty much DNA for melody-building. This lesson is invaluable for learning how to recognize sequences as they occur in the music we hear all around us. The real fun begins when we get “curious” and start venturing onto the fretboard, and start concocting sequences of our own! Thank you Chris for making me a much more Curious (and “Learned”) Guitarist. For those on the fence about Chris on Patreon… JUST. DO. IT.
I found this to be super interesting and can’t wait to learn some patterns that I make . I just recently found you and will be heading to Patreon soon.
@@curiousguitarist I've just about completed the assignments. So I'm going to give this a try....but also the James Brown assignment. So many good ones to work through.
Did you get a new axe bro? It looks great. I love SGs if you want a super bad ass SG but somewhat more affordable in the future get the Gibson Epiphone Prophecy. It is so great I know I will never trade it or sell it ever. Be blessed Sir
Further, if you order such sequences, each to begin with a root note in a chord progression, you can practice chord tone soloing at the same time. Thank you Chris for catalyzing this leap for me!
I have been practising 4 note seqs and 3 note seqs. Good tutorial, but I lost what you were doing when you got to the compound seqence. Maybe a diagram may explain it better.
The compound sequence was multiple groupings, the TABs are available here: www.Patreon/ChrisSherland but you can experiment with your own too. A group of 5, followed by 4 etc. Glad you’re here.
@@curiousguitarist Yes. I have them in my Godin. Though they sound different, but it might be amp stuff. I don't usually go for a fuzz tone. I'm a Pat Metheny fan.🙃
Merci. We had a joke since I lived in Mormon country near Utah. Why do you always invite two Mormons to go fishing? If you only invite one, he'll drink all your beer.
Thanks, man. I’m about to start playing out and posting again. And yes, I’m happy to say that Wildwood has taken quite a bit of my money. Loving the videos, Chris. I’m watching a couple every day and having those a-ha moments. Good stuff! I’ll be signing up for your Studio, once I digest all of this other good stuff on your channel. Thanks again, man!

Sherland the Gray!
I’m so grateful to be here and to be providing light bulb moments. Thanks for being here too.
Thank you, Chris! Wish I found you 20 years ago. Your lessons have made my playing the best I've ever been.
That is so great to hear, Franco. Thank you! I'm glad you're here NOW!!!

Of course! Then there's stuff like the cascading 4s and 5s that really say "Johnson" and Bonamassa"
@@curiousguitarist Let's see another video on these!
great guiter lesson of scale sequencing.very helpful and useful in making more musical.thanks a lot for it.
You're welcome of course!
Great lesson. SO many solos have been constructed around this idea. Allman Bros. use it alot.
Yup! Exactly!
Great lesson, Chris - Thanks for your time and effort!
Great to have you here Tim, glad you enjoyed this one!

your definitely one of my favorite guitar teachers, thank you :)
_blush_ Thanks Nichol!
Brilliant, absolutely coherent and inspirational stuff Chris, to get going with hands on experience of creating musical combinations.
Ahhh! So glad you enjoyed this one!
@@curiousguitarist yes, and hope to do so more, as I actually try it out myself. Thanks 😊
So very clear AND I just started practicing some new scales - nice timing! On it!
Keep me posted, Scott!
Once again a most excellent exercise and idea to practice scales!!! Many Mahalos!!!!!!!!
Mahalo Kevin, thanks for the comment. Glad you have you on board and thanks, so much for your support!
Great lesson Chris, better than croswords or sudoko for an old man. Brain worked thx
Ha! Yes, engaging the brain! Thanks for being here, Willi.
I found this to be super interesting and can’t wait to learn some patterns that I make . I just recently found you and will be heading to Patreon soon.
Thanks John, I'll see you there. I'm glad this style resonates with you.
Thank you!
THIS was the explanation I wanted. Using intervals and a nice visual diagram.
Perfect!!
Ahh great. Glad you enjoyed this one, Eric
@@curiousguitarist Is the end goal to be able to run through a sequence as quickly as I can run through the scale linearly?!
Yes that would be a good goal, ultimately you can find or create your own sequences that suite your style or preferences.
@Chris Sherland Guitar I got the first example you did, up and down fluidly.
How exactly would I create my own?!
Probably a stupid question
Preprogramming as usual :). Great work. Finally getting back to it hyperextended my pointer finger on my fretting hand. Way better now
Ahh great to hear! Hope this one helps~
@@curiousguitarist I will do it more tonight! Thanks Chris :)
Probably the most informative lesson you've done, but hey, they're all so cool ;)
Thanks, Tony!
thank you very much for this great lesson!
Doing this through the modes is pretty cool too
Good practice
Indeed! Great tip. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to actually hear the modes. Thanks, Eric.
Great lesson, as always. Thank you, Chris 🙏🎶
As always, you are welcome!
Great lesson! and nice Guitar! Chris!
Thanks Tone!!
Another great video and great ideas. Greetings from Brazil, Chris!
Olá Andre! Thanks for the views and comment.
So nice I watched it twice. Gonna spend some time on this for sure.
Sequencing really does help "cement" things together. Thanks for all your support, Tim!
Thanks Chris been doing 3rds on the major scale I will try the pentatonic scale now different positions 🎸
Yes!!! Exactly! This always generates big time re-engagement with scales, gets the creativity flowing!!
A new P90 SG - what sorcery is this?🧙♂️ Thanks for the vid, always enlightening🙂
Yeah, I had to have it. Been wanting a P90 axe for years now and this one was too beautiful to pass up!
😃 Thanks Chris!
You are hitting hard Chris! lol... Got my guitar and a beer, it's a start!
I love that start!
Fun lesson Chris - thank you!
Hmm these exercises sound kinda familiar ;)
...and the new SG comes out to play!!
hey Joyce! It's not the R 5 3 R exercise from major Scale Mastery, but it is similar. I really love playing this one.
Great lesson man
Thanks Josh, glad you enjoyed it!
Another good one Chris!
Thanks Tim! Think you can fit it in with major Scale Mastery going at the same time!?!?!?

Interesting and, as always, something to work on.
My pleasure, Scott! Thanks for all your support.
excellent
If you sequence thirds in three note sequences, you also harmonize triads for the key. Nice guitar.
Indeed, great context Paul, thank you.
Awesome Cris!!!!! New guitar?
Yup, just got it. 2019 Gibson SG special. I really like it so far.
Man, nice SG
Thanks!
Awesomeness 😎

Perfect context, Paul. Thanks!
New SG? Been thinking I need one too 😆
This is my first P90 guitar, and I could not get Red or Green, so it’s perfect! :)
Nice to know I have been doing something right. Maybe there is hope for me after all.
Haha! Much of these techniques occur organically without any instruction. Glad this one validated your sequencing, Jack!
Wait a second, that guitar🔥
New addition to the family!
CHRIS SHERLAND, Which scale sequencing patterns does Slash and Uli Roth?
Well I’ve heard them both use multiple patterns. Have you tried slowing down any solos or phrases of theirs to deconstruct what they are doing?
@@curiousguitarist Can you make a video lesson showing Uli Roth scale sequencing patterns?
