To echo what you guys have said, this slate presentation has boosted my excitement their TV/Film stuff but also to read more of the comics. As a lifelong DC Comics fan…these last few years have been tough. For the first time in a long time…it feels like they have a clear plan and direction for where they wanna go and what they wanna do. I am going to dig into the comics that are the inspiration for these upcoming project. S/O to James Gunn/Peter Safran and they’re whole crew. Let’s go! #DCU
The Judi Dench in Casino Royale example is a good one. If The Flash properly establishes that a DC universe exists where all the actors, new and/or old have known each other since the beginning, they can just carry on as if they have known each other. There's definitely no more need to do origin stories or first meet up type movies either.
I'm so excited at the idea of the Superman movie outright tackling the fact that he's old fashioned. It sounds a lot like Action 775/Superman vs. The Elite, which is brilliant. Also pretty obvious that his look and characterization will be very All-Star, which is also great news. God I'm stoked for this.
Jensen Ackles as Batman is the perfect casting. He’s 44. He voiced Batman in long Halloween AND in the upcoming new animated film. And to get Ben affleck to direct?! COME ON!
I see a rated R version of The Authority, an established team, eventually being the inspiration for the formation of the Justice League. Heroes that know of the Authority, but want to form a team the takes more of a moral high ground.
First time in years I’ve been excited for DC stuff. Every step they take away from Snyder is an exponential increase in my own hype level. Nothing but faith in James Gunn, and I’m particularly excited to see Tom King stories being centered. This is gonna be great.
1:10:00; LOL! Ppl just need to be patient pls and let Gunn/Safran cook! Looking forward to Lanterns, Paradise Lost & Waller on the TV side, and curious as to what both a written & likely directed James Gunn Superman movie & James Mangold Swamp Thing movie looks like! The specific writers/directors selected for each of these 10 projects will be crucial! My order of preference; 1) Lanterns 2) Paradise Lost 3) Superman Legacy 4) Swamp Thing 5) Waller 6) Batman: Bold and the Brave 7) Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow 8) Booster Gold 9) The Authority 10) Creature Commandos
Keep all of this content coming, homies! Agustin put it perfectly, there's just that little remnant of the previous run that just won't let go and can't get rid of. The added experience about Agustin's interactions with the "fandom" just made it even more clear about the baggage that comes with that. I am also with Adam on Superman Legacy being the make-it-or-break-it project that will define the James Gunn era. Side note, I think James Gunn is not going to "fire" his wife (from Suicide Squad and Peacemaker) so that means those franchises are going to be part of the new DCU? Finally, PEDRO PASCAL as Batman!? OMG YES!!! Perfect choice!
As soon as you guys mentioned Sinestro, it got me thinking. What if the thing Hal and John uncover is Sinestro's corrupt ways and possible corruption of other GLC officers? We already know that Sinestro when he was in the Corps was a dirty cop.
I was definitely waiting for this discussion all day Tuesday and yesterday, and it delivered as usual! Loved what you guys said about getting excited to read DC again. Proof of that is several of the books mentioned, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow sold out THAT DAY on Amazon. I definitely pulled my All-Star Superman off the shelf for a re-read. Looking forward to your insight as these projects start to see the light of day! Cheers!
Recasting isn't a big deal, Marvel has done it and is doing it in the new Ant-Man movie coming out soon. I'm half certain they're only doing the whole Flashpoint thing so they can simultaneously ignore most of the DCEU stuff while keeping Peace Maker and The Suicide Squad. Also the Flashpoint aspect may have already been in place before James/Peter so they're taking advantage of what they have available to them.
Hotshot the problem is that Gunn is wrong what his trying to do ( picking his own old actors for peacemaker & TSS ) there are other actors from old DCEU we want in DCU example Gal Gadot her first movie made over 840M already she has a second movie, Mamoa his movie made over 1 B and his having a coming second movie ) how can they let go of them while they accept Viola Davis to stay, they are going to lose the fan base
@@michaelkaggwa4915No you do not want Gal Gadot. She might look like Wonder Woman but shes a horrible actor. Shes the woman version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. No acting skills but her looks get her roles
I'm really interested to see how James Gunn is going to operate with other directors. He's clearly more directly involved with some projects while being half of the Kevin Feige of DC. I hope he learned a lot about working with Feige and can iterate on what he experienced so he is less restrictive with creatives while still keeping things cohesive. After Superman hopefully proves the new status quo is worthwhile, I think that's going to be the next big test.
What I’m hoping for is Lanterns is like a southland. You start off with Hal being vet assigned a new Partner John. Preferably after a Senistro betrayal. So you get see Hal be the mentor he never had. Also John being new on the field(space).
Guys, there is also the fact that they want these 2023 movies to make money. No way would they say that those characters are done right now. It makes no sense to destroy what interest is left in Flash, Shazam and Aquaman. These characters are done. We will hear about the reboot of Flash after the 2023 movies are done. I also think Mamoa is Lobo, too much clues there for it to not be a thing.
I'm very excited for everything James Gunn announced. But the stuff I'm looking forward to the most is The Lanterns, Paradise Lost and Swamp Thing. Gimme gimme gimme! 👏 I got goosebumps with his descriptions of everything.
Hi guys, big fan of the channel, Adam that DC slate titles graphic u did is very impressive, still surprised WB/DC and Gunn didnt do one, they cheaped out on this..I have seen a few people making them online but they are not great..Yours is spectacular, got it off reddit..i think DC should contact u to work with when they next do a comic con presentation or something👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
Cautiously optimistic for this. As you mentioned, Adam, Superman must stick the landing for me as well. He's my favorite DC character and gold standard, so this new iteration has to earn my trust. 🤞
I’m 100% with Adam on Brave and the Bold, the Bat Family completely changes the context for who Batman is and by jumping in with the newest member of that family we’re missing out on so many important moments and major character arcs Think about it, depending on what they do with the timeline this Batman will have: Already raised two sons, had one grow up and move out and lost the other one to his archenemy, have what is essentially his niece be crippled by the same archenemy, adopted a mute daughter and potentially had to deal with the resurrection of one of his sons who now hates him ALL OFFSCREEN
It has to be that none of them existed. Damian the only one. Otherwise Batman goes from young 30’s into at least 40’s and then he’s 15-20 yrs older than Superman. Are fans gonna go at Gunn now like they did to Snyder over Dick Grayson? Uggh comic fans are the worst.

Stuff I'm gonna read soon - given Tom King is on the brain trust and Gunn has specifically referenced these two in the last year or so as being great: his Mr Miracle and Strange Adventures. Loved this whole show guys, hopefully lots to dig into and get excited for over the next few years!
before i go into it, thanks guys, for a balanced and completely groovified breakdown of the Slate [also, Master Hector, i'm 41 ... i have no idea what that means, iChuckle. thinking about the end of the 2020s low-key freaks me out] there is one thing that's been nagging me since the day Sirs James and Peter got hired and [bear with me], it's Zaslav. WB has in recent memory, felt chaotic when it came to DC, i admit that. and i admit that everyone should be given a fair chance. but the decisions and statements that WBD CEO Zaslav have made and said, does not fill me with joy. so i'm wondering how MUCH of James and Peter's vision will see the full light of day. Zaslav gives me Perlmutter vibes. Feige could've gone around Perlmutter to get the job done. James and Peter still [i suspect] need to report to Zaslav. so while i feel excited for Chapter One and all that it could bring, that one thought lingers. be well.
Actors changing/not changing doesn’t bother me. MCU changed hulk and war machine and switched actors without issue. I’m excited for this slate. Love you guys!
Give me that Lanterns goodness AHHHHHHHH. The fact that also Brave and the Bold will potentially have an established Bat-family has me hoping for an EVENTUAL like....solo Nightwing movie or Titans movie. GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE
Just like you guys this has me pretty stoked to dip back into the comics. I kinda dropped off when Rebirth happened, read some of the Tom King batman, but not much else. Not because it wasn't good, but just because I felt a bit overwhelmed with just how much there was to catch up on I stopped trying. But 100% I will be heading out to get a copy of Supergirl Woman Of Tomorrow. And, like you guys said, if Swamp Thing leans into a Green/Red/The Rot scenario and we get some Animal Man that borrows from that Jeff Lemire/Travel Foreman run I will be so excited!
I think that Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom may be in a completely different universe. That corner of the universe, based on confirmed reports and rumors, seems to have already been reset in a way.
OK, going wayyyy out on a limb here but with Paradise Lost giving us a link to the past, Booster Gold giving us a link to the future and Lanterns exploring a "terrifying mystery" in the present, I’m just going to go ahead and predict that the overarching big bad for the DCU will be… MORDRU From Wikipedia: Considered among the most prominent members of the Lords of Chaos, the character is typically depicted as being an adversary of several teams and characters, including the Justice Society of America, Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, Doctor Fate, Justice League Dark and his primary enemies, the Legion of Super-Heroes. A parasitic-like cosmic entity, the character is depicted as being among the most powerful magic users in the DC Universe and a would-be conqueror, often working to increase his already overwhelming power to control all of existence.
Mordu…… that makes sense as also swamp thing protects the tree of life in the JL dark rebirth comics. So JL dark will happen in the future and mordu does make an appearance. I would love to see mordu
Doing Lanterns as a television show is the best way to slowly introduce the lore and complexity of the Green Lantern Corp to the general audience. Keeping it terrestrial based and saving the epic space opera for the big screen is the best way to do it.
The variety of this slate is what gets me, every project could have a different tone and feel to it, Swamp Thing and Booster Gold probably being polar opposites. So exciting!
I love this episode and am glad I found the channel. There's so much negativity and misinformation out there. Shoot, I appreciate how whenever someone on the panel got info one, another member came in and cleaned it up fast. You guys have a new fan!
Maybe I'm a little off with my interpretation of Superman but I never felt like he's simple or naive. To do what he does, he has to be optimistic so, sometimes against all odds, he chooses to be. He's basically Waymond from Everything Everywhere All at Once. He chooses to be optimistic and positive, to be a beacon of hope and that's a very smart decision, which is extremely difficult to live. To me that makes Superman even more endearing and a little tragic in some ways. Overall I'm super excited for DC, the slate so far looks super interesting and got huge potential! The problem I got with the MCU right now is that everything feels the same to me, it's more important to have hype and spectecular events, than good stories and well developed character (It's totally fine if you disagree), especially with James Gunn being in the position that he is, I feel like DC could do something different here. I do feel superhero fatigue and stopped visiting cinemas for MCU movies, because whenever I left the cinema it didn't take more than 15 minutes to almost forget the movie again. I hope that Gunn, Safran and all the creatives working on future DC projects, will be different, exciting and emotional gripping again.
Great discussion guys as always! I need to ask... Will you ever release the rest of the watchalong for Superman and Lois on UA-cam? I could never afford Patreon, could only support by tuning in here...
I'm cautiously VERY optimistic. I agree with Adam about Supes being pivotal for DC, they need to nail him. I'd love for my boy Kyle to get at least a cameo in the GL show and (eventually) we neeeeed Icon! This is just personal bias though, if they can make this work, I'll take good stories for whomever. Thanks again, guys!
I will absolutely be reading The Authority because they just sound cool. This whole slate sounds so diverse and covers every aspect of the DCU i.e. supernatural, the trinity and the cosmos. Very hype for Damian Wayne. Also gonna read Supergirl didn’t know these things existed until yesterday lol.
And if you want to find out what happened to Stormwatch in between that and the Authority... You might want to check out the Wildcats/Aliens (from the movies), crossover... it's a weird place for such an important continuity moment, but there it is...
I wonder what Momoa was so stoked about after he left the meeting with James and Peter a few weeks back. Doesnt seem like it was anything in the first slate of project Gunn revealed.
All the Hollywood insiders are pointing to Jason Momoa being re-introduced as Emiko Queen (Red Arrow), who is the half-Japanese half-sister half-dragon half-double decaf of Oliver Queen (Green Arrow). You heard it here first.
Love the optimism. Regarding the possibility of some characters carrying over and how that would affect continuity, I don't actually think it's that big of a deal. Take Shazam, for example: if he carries over, the two films he's appeared in are still set in the pre-Flash timeline, but the events of them still happened after the reboot. For Shazam, his two films still happened, just without the existence of Cavill's Superman or Affleck's Batman. Same for Aquaman: his two films still would have happened, just not Justice League (and in the post-Flash timeline, Aquaman 2018 was Arthur's full origin story). Same for Waller and the Suicide Squad: they still exist and those two past films still happened, just with altered plotlines (Bloodsport probably didn't shoot Superman, Waller never met Batman and gave him JL info, etc. etc., and maybe the first one just straight-up won't have ever happened). My main point: there's no point in worrying about this. Just watch through the Flash and keep treating this universe as one thing. Some things will get rebooted, other things won't: the past stories for those that didn't get rebooted still happened, just without the elements that were rebooted.
Gunn is taking a page from Feige’s book. Where Feige was trying to get a hero in there that represented each of us (high schooler, patriot, tech genius, man of anger, young ethnic girl, etc… Gunn will go the same but from more of a family aspect. Supes is single child with old parents, Bats is a single father, Diana is a manless world, Lanterns bring in color and ethnicity, monsters brings in visual outcasts, Wildcats brings in pack mentality rebellious youths, Waller is govt manipulation, etc.
Yes, But a clean slate to be fair means all new people cause if not your Shafting Cavill but keeping Ezra and Heard. No one had said Gal would be back right.
I think Heard is done for. There been reports that her runtime in the film was largely cut down plus she’s been in “hiding” after she was proven guilty. I doubt she’ll ever come back again.
Ringking 1978 its not a clean slate Viola Davis staying and i want more to stay example J Momoa and Gal Gadot there movies have made money for the company and if they let go of them they are going to lose fans including me
This was a great lineup for the DCFU. I need to pick up The Authority. Gal and Robert Pattinson is in the Elesworlds like Fox movies and Fox Searchlight movies. James Gunn said after the video there will not be the same actor playing a different character.
My friend Andy thinks SUPERMAN LEGACY might be a secret Legion of Superheroes movie. Clark as a young Superman : Superboy ends up in the future and sees the legacy of his deeds as Superman as presented from the 31st century perspective, and he has to contend with that - predestination, temptation to learn about his own future, time travel mind effery, perhaps seeing his future self as an impossible standard to live up to, et cetera. I just want to see Reep Daggle, Tasmia Mallor, Imra Ardeen, Brainiac 5, and the Ranzz twins.
Honestly this is the first time I'm hyped for DC again. Seeing James Gunn give the Green Lanterns the respect they deserve after WB deliberately sabotaged the Ryan Reynolds movie
I pray Gunn does my boy Eobard justice with Antony Starr in the role, professor zoom must live. Also green arrow year one would be a great start with maybe Charlie hunnam 🤷🏻♂️
I don't care if they hang on to the peripheral Amanda Waller Suicide Squad related stuff and actors but they really have to reboot all the "core" Justice League characters right?
Looking forward to all of it. Also had the thought that if this new DC stuff actually happens, the Justice League forms in response to the Authority pulling their shenanigans, and wouldnt be surprised if either the Authority movie, or the JL movie, borrows heavily from Superman vs the Elite/Action Comics 775.
I think its a smart move having the Authority being one of the first teams they introduce. They could use them as a segway for the Justice League to be formed
Maybe Aquaman 2 takes place at the same time as The Flash similar to how Ant-man 2 took place at the same time as Infinity War. Aquaman 2 may have a post-credit scene referencing what happened at the end of The Flash. Maybe Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 should flip release dates.
Love the worries about continuity in a "universe" where "Gotham City" and 'Metropolis" both exist and evidently are two different, but identical, cities.
I kinda like it. It's like treating the characters like James Bond. They can be played by different actors as the years go on so you don't have to constantly age up the characters.

COME ON!
Going to get real comfy for this one :D
I see a rated R version of The Authority, an established team, eventually being the inspiration for the formation of the Justice League. Heroes that know of the Authority, but want to form a team the takes more of a moral high ground.
First time in years I’ve been excited for DC stuff. Every step they take away from Snyder is an exponential increase in my own hype level. Nothing but faith in James Gunn, and I’m particularly excited to see Tom King stories being centered. This is gonna be great.
1:10:00; LOL! Ppl just need to be patient pls and let Gunn/Safran cook! Looking forward to Lanterns, Paradise Lost & Waller on the TV side, and curious as to what both a written & likely directed James Gunn Superman movie & James Mangold Swamp Thing movie looks like! The specific writers/directors selected for each of these 10 projects will be crucial! My order of preference;
1) Lanterns
2) Paradise Lost
3) Superman Legacy
4) Swamp Thing
5) Waller
6) Batman: Bold and the Brave
7) Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
8) Booster Gold
9) The Authority
10) Creature Commandos
And now all is feeling right with DCU. 🧘🏻♂️
Cheers!
Agreed with Hector. This announcement has reignited my love for the comics. Just ordered All Star Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
LOL... I loved the video with Hector and Alex. It was great. 😂
I got goosebumps with his descriptions of everything.
I’m 100% with Adam on Brave and the Bold, the Bat Family completely changes the context for who Batman is and by jumping in with the newest member of that family we’re missing out on so many important moments and major character arcs
Think about it, depending on what they do with the timeline this Batman will have: Already raised two sons, had one grow up and move out and lost the other one to his archenemy, have what is essentially his niece be crippled by the same archenemy, adopted a mute daughter and potentially had to deal with the resurrection of one of his sons who now hates him ALL OFFSCREEN
That’s why you can revisit all those stories via spin-off tv shows and movies that’s the beauty of a cohesive universe
@@kaisa8204 but if you’re going to do all that then why start here? There are SO MANY other Batman movies or shows you’d have to make to explore all that stuff in retrospect that you’re not saving time you’re just confusing people
@@jonasquinn7977 Same reason New52 Batman comic just started in the present and eventually filled in the five years since Batman's origin that we didn't technically see.
@@bestlexluthor7596 Batman: The Animated Series established that Batman was active for at least ten years before Superman showed up in Metropolis. It's fine. Relax.
James Gunn sent me here. 😉 Great job on the graphic Adam!
Lego Batman is the best exploration of the character ever produced outside of Harley Quinn's deep dive (literally) into Bruce's psyche.
Stuff I'm gonna read soon - given Tom King is on the brain trust and Gunn has specifically referenced these two in the last year or so as being great: his Mr Miracle and Strange Adventures.
Loved this whole show guys, hopefully lots to dig into and get excited for over the next few years!
I would want the next Batman after Brave and the Bold to be titled Sins of the Father and introduce Red Hood
The only analysis that I actually care about 👏👏👏
Nice work getting a James Gunn like and share on Instagram!
before i go into it, thanks guys, for a balanced and completely groovified breakdown of the Slate [also, Master Hector, i'm 41 ... i have no idea what that means, iChuckle. thinking about the end of the 2020s low-key freaks me out]
there is one thing that's been nagging me since the day Sirs James and Peter got hired and [bear with me], it's Zaslav.
Feels great to be excited about DC for the first time in almost a decade!
LOVE y'all breakdown!!!
Give me that Lanterns goodness AHHHHHHHH. The fact that also Brave and the Bold will potentially have an established Bat-family has me hoping for an EVENTUAL like....solo Nightwing movie or Titans movie. GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE
Agreed on the need for optimism and inspiration with Superman. Also psyched about Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow
OK, going wayyyy out on a limb here but with Paradise Lost giving us a link to the past, Booster Gold giving us a link to the future and Lanterns exploring a "terrifying mystery" in the present, I’m just going to go ahead and predict that the overarching big bad for the DCU will be…
MORDRU
From Wikipedia: Considered among the most prominent members of the Lords of Chaos, the character is typically depicted as being an adversary of several teams and characters, including the Justice Society of America, Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, Doctor Fate, Justice League Dark and his primary enemies, the Legion of Super-Heroes.
And if Mordru leads to a LEGION OF SUPERHEROES movie or series...this fat old dude may just have to jump for joy!
Been waiting for this all dayyyyy
I love this episode and am glad I found the channel. There's so much negativity and misinformation out there. Shoot, I appreciate how whenever someone on the panel got info one, another member came in and cleaned it up fast. You guys have a new fan!
Did you guys see James Gunn repost your photo?
Yes! 🙌
I’d say Waymond was relatively simple and naive too
@@DamnFineCupOfCoffee No, he was smart and absolutely aware of how he lived his life.
@@DamnFineCupOfCoffee he even explained that he is fully aware how people might think that but being kind was more important.
Great discussion guys as always! I need to ask... Will you ever release the rest of the watchalong for Superman and Lois on UA-cam? I could never afford Patreon, could only support by tuning in here...
Come back on Tuesday 😉
Taking a shot every time hector talks over and hijacks someone else’s point 😵💫
And Brazil says: you're welcome Heroes Reforged
I'm cautiously VERY optimistic. I agree with Adam about Supes being pivotal for DC, they need to nail him. I'd love for my boy Kyle to get at least a cameo in the GL show and (eventually) we neeeeed Icon! This is just personal bias though, if they can make this work, I'll take good stories for whomever. Thanks again, guys!
I love the explanation of the Superman characteristics because it just made me think of him as Forrest Gump with super powers lol
Hey guys I am a fan from India, love everything you do, keep it up.👍☺️
To expand on Augustin's point on tone, think of New Girl, Nick is Batman, Schmidt is Superman and Jess as wonder woman :)
I think Gunn should do a new League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Holy shit! I had no idea the Checxicans had another channel!
It’s brand new!
If you can fit it in, you should read Ellis' Stormwatch run which us essentially a prelude to the Authority.
@@nihildomini thanks for the rec. I’m definitely reading that beforehand.
And if you want to find out what happened to Stormwatch in between that and the Authority... You might want to check out the Wildcats/Aliens (from the movies), crossover... it's a weird place for such an important continuity moment, but there it is...
@@nihildomini really appreciate the recommendations man saving a screenshot of these for later.
You heard it here first.
haven't even watched the video yet and I just wanted to say what a great thumbnail! shoutout to whoever made it 🙇
That would be Adam. He makes all out graphics.
green lantern is what I'm hoping for to be good.
This is a good thumbnail for this video. Its why i even clicked on it.
I still think they’re saying the right things so that these next 4 movies can make money. It’s just odd that The Flash will reboot some but not all……
Gunn is taking a page from Feige’s book.
@@Megaproductions302 i think ezra is done for too after his movie😂
Ringking 1978 its not a clean slate Viola Davis staying and i want more to stay example J Momoa and Gal Gadot there movies have made money for the company and if they let go of them they are going to lose fans including me
@@michaelkaggwa4915 damn a lot of people are already mixed on that saying those two should be recasted too
A Green Lantern TV series is all I ask for.
This was a great lineup for the DCFU. I need to pick up The Authority. Gal and Robert Pattinson is in the Elesworlds like Fox movies and Fox Searchlight movies. James Gunn said after the video there will not be the same actor playing a different character.
PSGAMERGUY76 what do you mean by DCFU and were did you get that Gal Gadot will be in Elesworlds?
Was waiting for this 😎😎
I don't care if they hang on to the peripheral Amanda Waller Suicide Squad related stuff and actors but they really have to reboot all the "core" Justice League characters right?
Looking forward to all of it.
Also had the thought that if this new DC stuff actually happens, the Justice League forms in response to the Authority pulling their shenanigans, and wouldnt be surprised if either the Authority movie, or the JL movie, borrows heavily from Superman vs the Elite/Action Comics 775.
I think its a smart move having the Authority being one of the first teams they introduce. They could use them as a segway for the Justice League to be formed
Also very into the slate’s variety
