As an American and as a teacher of young kids their age, i can’t imagine acting with the selfish disregard that you showed to the children. You were marveling at the creation of God and yet you missed His greatest creation walking with you. If you had done your research you would have known the language they speak and even a few basic words. The kids were trying to befriend you and it would have been very easy for you to return the compliment. But it would have meant letting go of your thinly veiled sense of superiority of your point of view and the language you speak.
