One of life's great pleasures is to know Gomez. Sit and listen with a smug grin on your face, safe in the knowledge that you are experiencing pure brilliance, whilst sparing a thought for those sadly missing out as they listen elsewhere.
I liked where your comment was heading so much that, when the video flipped over to an ad and the next video, I flipped back just to finish reading. I couldn't agree more.
First time I've heard this song in over a decade....... I still knew every single word! Great music. I know what I'm doing on my next day off. *Playlist time* 👍
you start realizing the huge message they have for you in this song. my favourite line is "could not look son house in the eye". if you know who son house is, this line should kick you in the nuts. that's how powerful it is. the r'n'b alibi is just an excuse for people to shake their booties on TV screens and produce the same thing over and over again without creative input. "try anything twice, anyone can try anything twice" - genius disguised in a mocking r'n'b-styled song by gomez. genius.
Must see them live, amazing musicianship, don't forget to pogo when amped, they respond to that. Very original in every way, from the ground up. Also love Free To Run, exceptional song, very meaningful too.
They have been touring a lot in the US, made quite a lot of fans there and released their 6th album 'A New Tide' a couple of months ago. They're now on tour in Europe and played some shows opening for Pearl Jam. (!!!) I'll be seeing them for the 3rd time this year in November. They still kick massive arse live, so go and see them if you can.
+Davos Nix One of the best albums I've ever heard for a front to back listen. There's not a bad song on the whole album, which is a rare thing, for any band. I think it's their best album.
Very underated band. Glad you found them Harold. Their first two albums are tremendous. They kind of lost their way... but the stuff seems pretty good again. Check out the first two records if you have the means. Cheers.
I was in my parents car going into the Trafford Centre the day it came out and they played it on the radio. As a teen I found it exciting when a band I liked got mainstream radio play. I bought the single on CD about half an hour later. Gomez Liquid Skin tour at Manchester Academy was my first gig supported by a band called Ooberman or something. I remember between their main set and encore they were projecting images of David Hasselhoff from a feature he'd had in Hello magazine on the screens at the side of the stage and people trying to clap along with the syncopated hand claps in the song "Las Vegas Dealer". About 8-9 years later Tom from the band came into the bar I worked to get breakfast (he'd played a solo gig the night before or something) and we had a little chat but I got thrown when he asked for a glass of orange juice as "OJ" (I don't know why it bothers me when people abbreviate drink names but it does) and that was the end of our interaction.
You can write your tunes with rhythm and blues as your alibi You can sell your soul and lay the blame all on the passers-by You shake your body on the TV screen It seems to me, you'd try anything twice And swing it out and use it as your aphrodisiac You can give it to me, to me Plain to see that I'll give it you back You let it flow, let it go, there's nothing to it Anyone can try anything twice, try anything twice Chasing after stories that have already been told Could not look old Son House in the eyes Unaware you carry such a fragile load But I've got yours, and you've got mine It's a rhythm and blues alibi You can take a trip through your juke joint smoke-filled paradise You can give it your all, 'cause you are walking a fine, fine line, line You shake your booty on the TV screen Seems to me, you'd try anything twice You'd try anything twice Well, let me hear you now Chasing after stories that have already been told Could not look old Son House in the eyes Unaware you carry such a fragile load And I've got yours, you've got mine It's a rhythm and blues alibi
Birds, feathered kind, have actually started to request this tune, when windows open, enthusiastic tweets of Get Miles, and numerous other Gomez tunes, will humanity ever wake i wonder?
Fucking awesome tune - reminds me of those cruel final days of being a hard drinking alcoholic! Now, play it at 1.25 speed and experience it with a little upbeat skip step! MMagic!
Gomez Fans: Why aren't more people listening to Gomez?!? *Gomez has a sudden, long overdue surge in popularity* Gomez Fans: Fuck off new fans, I liked them first!
@MaggieGillespiexx I prefer then to be somewhat un-listened to, i've seen them about 10 times and every time i've had a great gig with no commercial loving assholes there to spoil it :)
Is it because of the line "try anything twice" that everything happens twice and then twice again. So everything happens twice, twice like how the line 'Try anything twice' is always said twice in the song. I dunno. I imagine that's the kind of thing that worked as a video concept in the 90s.
One of life's great pleasures is to know Gomez. Sit and listen with a smug grin on your face, safe in the knowledge that you are experiencing pure brilliance, whilst sparing a thought for those sadly missing out as they listen elsewhere.
Since the 90s bro 💯

Great music. I know what I'm doing on my next day off. *Playlist time* 👍
Liquid skin has got to be one of the best stoneass albums of all time😊
Really drags for me compared to the first album, they picked the right singles from it though.
It's up there with OK Computer that I can let play and not skip a track.
You can tell top musicians as soon as you heard them. So underrated, absolutely pukka!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ben's voice is amazing

These guys are one of the best Quintets going around, such amazing harmonies. I saw Ben and Ian doing a duo together and they were sensational live.

the first line of the the lyrics i believe is referring to how easy to make melodies with the blues chord pattern.
