    People in the comments will say “it’s gonna last way longer than 10k rounds without replacing any parts”
    have probably never put 10k rounds through a AR. Bolt rings and extractors are supposed to be replaced before then and a inexpensive barrel is likely seeing accuracy degradations around then.
    personally in my defensive guns I replace stuff when it should be replaced. Which is not very expensive. A brand new microbest milspec bcg is $89. Or you can spend $15 on rings/extractors/cam pin.

      As a former poverty enjoyer, I put a PSA 16" melonite .625" FSB upper on an anderson lower; assembled with a PSA LPK and buffer tube assembly. From 2016 to 2018 I made it through 16k rounds of steel cased ammo and maybe a few hundred rounds of brass cased ammo.
      What I learned was that steel cased ammo is very dirty and unreliable, ~3-5 failures per thousand.
      Gas rings and extractors are wear parts and need to be replaced.
      Occasionally the extractor would rip through the case's extraction groove; this is quite possibly the worst jam in an ar.
      The first group I put through it was with hornady 55gr soft point and it shot ~3.5" at 100yds with whatever trash tier optic I had at the time. The last group I shot through it was about 6" at 100yds with the Eotech I had replaced the trash tier red dot with.
      I think it was worth having a cheap AR at that point in my life as it taught me so much about the system; what works, what doesn't and what breaks. Now, I can afford something better but that was my only option for an AR at the time.

      @user-cq6km9vq2m 10 місяців тому +5

      Eh depends , it depends on how finished the BCG is. If the chamber where the bolt tail resides and rings make the seal are rough, then yeah they are going to wear out faster. But after 10K rounds you should think about replacing the BCG anyway, Depending on how the rifle is gassed, and if you're using FRT or binary triggers then this can increase wear on the bolt lugs, which are the things that most often fail long before rings. Even with leaky rings the rifle can function if you have an adjustable gas block. But if the rings are worn then there is a good chance which the bolt tail chamber is worn as well and out of spec. Just replace the whole thing. Wilson combat makes good BCGs and they are about 175-ish bucks. And if you do the math 10000 rounds at 2K a year is five years. Don't tell me you can't save 35-50 bucks a year. for a high quality and complete BCG. And there are "better ones" for a bit more or less depending on what you believe. it's difficult to make an objective decision about this because the better BCGs are all made of the same material. Is carpenter steel better in this BCG than this BCG that uses the same type of steel? Dunno. You tell me.
      At 10K rounds, it's good to do a complete tear down of the rifle and inspect it for wear: is the upper being worn by the BCG and is it not running true; is the battery locking lugs deformed or worn; what do the feed ramps look like; inspect the barrel for wear - what does the crown look like - check the headspace; check the trigger springs/assembly; how does the safety detent feel - is it sloppy or does it have a positive click?; buffer tube sitting square/loose; etc. This should always be done when cleaning, -- inspecting, but this would be a more comprehensive examination. Basically, your mindset is looking for anything that doesn't look right no matter how small so you can repair or replace it.
      I look at all parts of the rifle besides the barrel and BCG as consumables and you can get away with buying economical lower parts and using the saved money on getting higher quality BCG.
      But if you do want to replace the parts, or buy them incase of the SHTF, they are not expensive and you'll have a tough time telling me the difference between CMMG/Areo/PSA/WC from each other. Because I think there's only really three or four companies which make those parts.
      If you read this far thank you for your time. Happy shooting, and aim small miss small.

    • @Nyxeme
      @Nyxeme 10 місяців тому +98

      @FinalLugiaGuardian Definitely not easy. You have to be a card carrying member of a officially recognized gun club for a year. Within that year you have to have 18 sessions with a firearm, stamped in a booklet by the club. Then you have to fill out a lot of paperwork and get a police inspection at your residence to show where you're going to be storing your firearm. This has to be a safe and you're not allowed to store your ammunition in the same safe unless the safe has another locked compartment. When you're cleared by the police you can buy whatever you want. Also good luck finding a gun store that has what you want and no fully automatic firearms. However, each subsequent year you have to have your 18 stamps from your training sessions to keep your license.
      So yeah, definitely different from the US 😅

    I’d much rather see a break down of why someone would pay that much for an AR VS a budget one and showing what happens at high round counts with both. It’s obvious you can still train with it but you all have the money/ammo to truly test these weapons. That’s what I’d like to see personally.

      I think we'd all enjoy seeing stuff like a 5K/10K break down on a rifle --- even if it's over the career of the gun, etc. I know a few publications have done this in the past, particularly when ammo was cheaper. There was a test done by someone where they put something like 5-10K of Wolf steel ammo through a number of guns to see what it would do to the barrels, etc.

      @@assclapper2231"Soldiers" have been around long long before rifles were ever invented. Latin "Solidus" used to be a form of currency commonly used to pay Roman Legionaries and the word started to become slang for these low ranking warriors, and later morphed into our modern pronunciation through Old English and French. "Solidus" was fractionally similar to the Roman Libre as the Schilling was to the British Pound. All "soldier" really means is "regularly paid warrior".
      This all being said, are all proficient riflemen soldiers? Definitely no. Are all soldiers proficient riflemen? Definitely no. There's a logically obvious disconnect between the tool and the person here. Just because someone gets paid to do a job doesn't mean they're better at the tasks their job entails than someone who does those tasks for non professional reasons. This is why many US service members never even touch a fully automatic service rifle. Our military knows well enough that a common infantryman, let alone a soldier cook, isn't skilled enough at handling a tool like that very effectively, and is liable to mag dump a suspicious tree three hours into a three day hump.
      If you listen to former SEALS like Jocko Willink, or GBs like Evan Hafer then you would know they too fully believe the gun in their hands has absolutely nothing to do with what they were/are capable of. They would say "so what? Our enemies, who were often unpaid guerrillas and not "soldiers", use rifles similar in capability to ours, so the only thing that can stand us apart from them is knowledge and enough training to effectively apply that knowledge"
      Lastly, that $450 PSA rifle shot in this video is a mil spec rifle. If you joined right now your armorer would issue you something similar in quality, but has been dragged through the mud and beaten against boulders, and if you so dared to say "this private has a defective rifle" after shooting a horrendously failing group, your DI/DS would simply take your rifle and shoot a passing group right on the spot to make you look like an idiot in front of everyone else. I'm willing to bet 49 out of 50 times it's never the rifle, and instead it's a 1 MOA gun with a 10 MOA dummy behind it.

I don't care if mine is overgassed if it goes bang everytime I pull the trigger.

    Bear independent made the best sense. Buy a yourself a rifle, then buy a back up rifle kitted to the same specs of your first rifle, then another back up to the back up same exact way, and finally a back up to the back up to the back up. I believe he shoots PSAs. So 4 of those PSA rifles with slings, irons, and red dots still come out significantly cheaper than just one of those Gucci rifles. And you do all of that so when something goes down with your primary, everything is kitted to exactly how you would shoot and you can carry on. Also, buying lots of back up parts is smart too. Incredible video guys. I always look forward to your releases.

Most people could buy smth like an IWI Zion-15, a solid AR from a reputable manufacturer, for about $830 at Sportsmans Warehouse, and literally spend the remaining $870 on a budget optic/iron sights, ammo, and a training class. I'm sure you could build an AR yourself for even cheaper.

    17:48 … frozen shoulder! It will fix itself over time (more or less). Don’t force it. And it can happen again. Take care of your shoulders. Don’t overdo.

      @@legionp229saoconvertedme4 ... sorry to hear! I've had it twice ... the shoulder needs to fix itself. Physical therapy may help some, but ... and surgery does nothing, just destroys. It's like a "stiff cramp" that just need to loosen up and fix itself over time. My last one took a year to become fairly moveable, and another year to become 95% unnoticeable. Be patient (it sucks I know also with unintended pain). Limit your arm and shoulder movement, limit pressures on it (also while sleeping and in what position), be mindful of every activity you make, and learn to use the other arm for the time being.
      And ... be patient. Let it heal internally. Be patient.

    Great vid Lucas! I own many budget/mid tier and high end ARs. The gun is just a tool. The shooter is the weapon. I will say I just picked up the PSA sabre I am quite impressed with their top tier AR.

    I remember not to long ago he had this kid in a video teaching him how to shoot a AR. He looked like he never run drills or practiced reloads. Now Lucas has trained him into a pretty good shooter

    While this is an extreme example, I don't think it's unreasonable to claim that one could match, and I don't mean "JuSt As gOoD aS" but actually match the performance of the ~$8k setup for significantly less with well chosen parts and kit. Simple things like a PSA lower, a BCM upper and then splurging on the best BCG and barrel/nut combo can save a ton of money while providing astounding toughness. Splurge on the wear items, and get cheap functional bits for the non-wear items as it were.
