A very realistic view of what it means to get a boat like the finances, towing and other considerations which most videos skip over. Gonna bookmark and come back many times. Great video!

Don’t forget to go to an empty parking lot and practice backing up! Set up some cones or similar and practice your “aim” as some of the ramps can be really skinny.

Great video, Glenn. But I was surprised that you didn't mention pushing down on the motor to check for flex in the transom. This can lead to very serious issues and repair costs.

Having been in the Marine repair business since 2000 , hard to believe I have been in this industry that long. The No 1 advice I can give anybody when buying a boat is : LAKE TEST ,LAKE TEST , LAKE TEST! I have had so many people buy boats with out lake testing and being lied to by the seller and end up with a junk boat that they paid thousands of dollars too much for. I just makes me sick because people are trusting and some shady seller will lie through their teeth. If you call on a boat and tell the seller I want to lake test and the seller starts him ha ing around making excuses why he cant take you out for a lake test , then tell the seller well its apparent you are hiding something on the boat so I will take my money to a seller that isn't. Don't walk, run away from these kind of sellers. If you can do the work your self and he can start it up in the drive way with a flush attachment then maybe yes, but you are leaving yourself to cracks and leaks in the hull. If its a I/O pull the dip stick and check for milk shake . Ask the seller if you can crack the drain plug on the drive ? If he says no walk away . If he says yes just crack it and pull it out just barely and check for milk shake if it has shake it will cost thousands of dollars to reseal the drive .Pass on the boat if you cannot do the drive yourself it take special tools to set up and reaseal a stern drive. If there is no shake in the drive or engine then I would beat him down on the price if he wont lake test and you are taking it as is if you are going to do the work yourself . If you have to hire a Marine tech then pass on it . The repairs can exceed the value on the boat

What a stupid way to start of a video and absolutely terrible advice "Most of us need to get a loan". 100% not true and has just been accepted. What is true is people buy what they can't afford. Rule #1 is buy what you can afford and that is with cash. Same goes for the truck you are pulling it with.

I bought a 1995 tracker TF with a 150 on it in 1996 for $9500 when it had sold new a year before for $18,000 and I kept that boat for 25 years then sold it for $3000 because it was pretty well used up by then. Contrary to what the news will tell you, the United States is in the state of financial collapse, which can be a good thing. If you have a job where you are valuable enough for you to keep it. Over the next year, there will be many people who are desperate and will sell boats and cars and trucks cheap just to raise money so it will be a good time to get the things you want. Hopefully you have saved money so that you will be in a position to take advantage of the coming situation.

The bass boat I really want, I can't afford. So I'm left to compromise with a lesser value boat I don't like as much. Having said all that, Due to cost, bank fishing is the better option. Busting the bank account would not be advised.

Boat loans are not smart. Save up and buy one with cash or if a boat cost 70k put 50k on it and get a 2 or 3 yr loan instead.

I was thinking about repowering my boat. What should I look for?

    • @bassresource
      @bassresource  3 роки тому +3

First, be sure you know the horsepower rating of your boat, and don't exceed it. Second, know how much weight your transom can accommodate so that you can avoid getting an engine that weighs too much. Third, if you can swing it, I'd suggest that you go with a 4-stroke outboard. They cost a little more but if you're planning on covering lots of water and keeping the boat for awhile, then it will payoff in the reduced fuel cost. In addition, they're more durable and require less maintenance. They are also much quieter and cleaner than a 2-stroke engine. Good luck!

So im hoping to find a new or new to me boat in the spring of 2022. If i survive the Covid LOL!

This is some great information. I have owned boats almost all of my life. With my career path I have made. . I have had super nice boats that were paid for. I am a hands on person that can do all of the maintenance that is required. I recently had a stroke.and Now I have zero income. And can not do much with the left side of my body.
I always thought. I could do it all. So with my life lesson. I have learned

Whats the round about cost on boat insurance these days for a new or 2-3 yr old 19-20ft bass boat with 200-250 hp motor? I have a Excellent driving record if that matters.
Also I’ve heard about extended warranties on older boats and motors, does anyone know what the average monthly costs are on a ext warranty plan?
Thanks in advance, I’m new to this boat buying, just trying to add some numbers here on costs per month.

TWO IMPORTANT THINGS YOU DIDN'T COVER, Buying new you have a major depreciation once the boats been titled! Even if you never put it in the water, your not likely to get what you paid. Additionally on a used boat you would want to buy a boat with normal hours on it, which equates to the boat is being used and enjoyed, and likely operates. An older boat 10 - 15 years with low hours, sounds good, but means the boat has not likely been maintained and has been sitting for long periods of time, not good. SECOND, The used boat your looking to buy may have an existing lien on it. Be sure you check for a lien AND if there’s no lien on the boat, there may be one on the trailer. Some banks won't lien the boat but lien the trailer. Also they could file a state lien on the boat. Ie: UCC or tax liens.

Being back into this bass boat thing i would like to add something and this might not pertain to everyone. Im 6’-6” 375 lbs and I’m not going to fit in small boats behind the wheel and leg room, also my weight concerns me in like a 17-18ft boat, im thinking that if I’m fishing and driving by myself, the boat is going to lean towards the right side really bad, also when standing on the front deck and close to the sides, im betting a small boat is going to lean bad from side to side.

Some scammers have their own shipping / delivery website. The initial money / deposit is funneled thru shipping company. Cod. As a buyer you’re thinking since it’s safe because it’s a third party and COD. Cash on delivery also feels safe because you’re able to inspect the boat before paying. So if the scammer has a fake shipping website and you transfer a deposit you’ll never get it back. Because the scam is only for the deposit.
