Thanks! That's something I have never seen in over 35 years of installing deadbolts. Have used lipstic on the end of the bolt to do the same thing when doing 5" backset deadbolts and the strike locator tool is to short to use. Make sure to do all the adjustments on the lock that latches the door before starting deadbolt installation.
Awesome thanks for this. I was trying to use a flat head screw driver as a short cut (the hardware store is 45mins away) and it was just ugly. Going to have to make the trip.
You would normally chisel about the thickness of the strike plate you are installing. Perfect is when the installed strike plate is flush with the doorframe when you screw it to the doorframe. Chisel a little at a time. You can buy the transparent template tape under the products; alignment tape on our website, www.punchpoint.com. Here the direct link: punchpoint.com/tape/ Thank you for your inquiry.
Punch Point Tools, LLC Which model tape is this? I looked and I didn't see any that had the deadbolt size stickers. Did you cut it out of a different tape?

This is the perfect video! Straight to the point while clearly showing every step.

Where do you get a round chisel?
Good video. An old carpenter I knew used a dab of white latex caulk on the end of the dead bolt to mark where it would strike.
The fact that no deadbolts come with this marking sticker already is asinine.
Thank you so much for showing the tape trick that was my whole reason for looking this up now don't have to watch 5-10 videos.
Excellent concepts.
Great video. But no information on where to buy the stickers ?
google or make your own from a bigger double sided tape
I just dab paint on the deadbolt and it works the same.

Short and sweet, nice video!
What tools did you use, please?
thank you. how do you know how deep to chisel it? and where do you get that tape?

How deep do you drill?
What kind of chisel was that to get the rounded corners??
It’s a Mastercarver detail wood carving tool. Not sure on size. I will send you the size when I get back to my office.
