I was not expecting to cry like a baby but here I am. This is my daughter to a T and she is only 11 y’all 😭 This poem perfectly explained how she feels everyday...and I feel worthless that I can’t help her. On a side note, I loved the tone and delivery in this poem. She doesn’t sound like everybody else. Lately it seems like every poet I watch does the fake cry emotion where their voice shakes and they all do the deep gasping. Nothing wrong with that but they all sound the same to me. It’s refreshing to see a poet sound like themselves and give us something we can all relate to, even if it’s just a piece of it ❤️

Sarah kay does well. Her performance is amazing, even a grocery list would sound beautiful and her poems are mostly beautiful and somewhat happy. Also Olivia Gatwood. She's wonderful.

I've had so many of these thoughts and even just similar ones and I'm so happy someone put it into words.

I got lost down a poetry rabbit hole, and it was all worth every moment before this to find this gem.

This is one of the most touching and powerful things I have ever heard. I relate to so much of this and didn't know that someone could put into words what I feel. But this is marvelous

I can strongly relate to the too much much when it comes to senses. Especially when people unexpectedly touch me and I feel like I want to drop that body part and run away like a lizard abandoning its tail, or when I'm overwhelmed and riding in the passenger seat so I have to close one eye to avoid seeing the driver moving in my peripheral vision because every movement makes me nauseated and for some reason I feel like they're going to suddenly hit me if they move their hand even a centimeter. When there are times that any noise feels like there is a physical, painful pressure in my chest and head and both my heart and brain are about to explode and I get the most intense need to destroy whatever is making the noise so everything can be silent even if it's a person i love and care about. I have to tell them to be silent because if they arent then it feels like one of us will die even though I've never died from being overwhelmed and never more than slapped someone on the arm out of panic to make them stop talking, but in those moments my brain tells me that I have to run away or kill whatever is overwhelming me or I will die.

Or when I touch something with the most horrible texture and I feel like actually cutting my hand off because I cant stop repeatedly feeling it even though I instantly recoiled and washed my hand or wiped it on something with a better texture.

Okay I must ask- is this poem about OCD..? (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) because it describes it perfectly!! I was diagnosed recently and man oh man does this hit it on the head. Does anyone know if this poet has OCD..? if she does I had no idea and it’s really inspiring to hear her share her story ❤️

I’ve never related to something so hard before. I don’t eat nuts on planes for the same reason. I don’t really eat on planes alone and I’ve panicked bad on flights. I’m terrified of flashing lights because I believe I have epilepsy even though I’ve never been diagnosed. My sensory overload is terrible. “It was too much much”.
