1:08 I found your mate. You like to drop stuff lol. I still have G5 since 2004. It's 2022 now. My old mouse still working great. After not using it for a few years, the middle left click stopped working.
love this mouse. just got a new gaming computer and after a few months started getting usb disconnect sounds and screen would flash filling my event viewer with all sorts of useless crap. after a couple weeks of trouble shooting i found out that it was my mouse cord. right were it goes into the mouse. looks like i will be attempting what u just did in the video. i should maybe look at getting a new mouse at least to have for a back up. thank you for the video . this is gonna help me out. nice job!
You can get a new replacement braided USB cable for this mouse from eBay for about $4 USD and you save yourself all this trouble. I did repair mine as well cause I couldn't afford to wait but I still ordered one in case I need to replace it again in the future.
Just a heads up for those watching, it would be a heck of a lot easier to just buy a replacement cable on eBay or a custom paracord to upgrade it. I did that with my c. 2003 Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical and it feels so much better with a loose paracord than a stiff rubber cable.
Thank you so much for this video! my fav mouse, I bought 2 rejects used in a gaming even from years ago, and had the same problem after 1 died, neither one came with the weights, just used them for parts.
Hell yeah best Mouse ever had still got mine and its sister the G-500 just need a new cable for the G-5 the usual happened with that the cables all go funny and snap
Well done for solving the problem at least in some way. Although, instead I would have just cut the bit out that was damaged and re soldered the original cable, it would have only reduce in size by a couple of inches but would have given you a lot more flexibility in the cable, as that's what it was designed for and potentially a quicker job. But hey well done either way.
This fix works... but... I think two things would make this better. First, if you are going to cut out the bad section of the wire why not just cut the section of wire out and reconnect it to the original cable this give you the same look and feel of the moust. Second, for $5.99 you can buy a replacement cable kit on ebay. It comes with a brand new cable and mouse skid replacements. I fixed my cable the way I first described and then bought the replacement kit. No issues at all.
My G5 started acting badly about 2 weeks ago, So I have been looking for options on how to fix it. Decided to buy another mouse, but since it is my favorite I will look into finding a replacement cable. If it does not help I will try something else to fix it, hopefully this year. Like someone else mentioned I also saw that this mouse was selling for a high price. However, I assume that would mean in "never used", "never opened" condition. And since mine show signs of heavy usage I doubt it has any resale value :-)
Yours just popped apart. I fought like hell and, in the end broke it (Fixable) because the post at the top near the cord was glued (Had to be factory since I bought it new and have never took it apart).
@@JankyShack Heh thats a funny thought!,but im about to do same as you and attempt to fix it myself, because its worth it.i wont be selling mine though.
Logitech recently rereleased the Mx518, although it's not like the old one it's a little different. I think Logitech should rerelease these mice that everybody loves, so we don't have to pay inflated prices for new old stock of the mice we love. the Mx510, G5, G9 etc, there's certain a market for them

I agree it would be easier to buy a new mouse or cord, but this is a lot more immediate lol
@@JankyShack Good point, if one has a soldering iron on-hand and a spare cable. :)

This will fix my Logitech G5 mouse problem. It keeps shutting down when I move it, it was the cable the whole time. Thank you.
Love my G5. Got it for $35 in 2005 and I don't ever want anything else.

There was no obvious physical damage to the cable or USB connector or i would have probably done that

Liked because I love my G5 and it has started to act funny. Hope I can fix!
I hope you fix it!
you could have cut the faulty piece of the old cable to fix it!!!
There was no obvious damage to the exterior of the cable.

다음부터는 케이블을 구매해서 교체하길 바래요. 얼마 안할텐데... 좋은 마우스를 아깝게 망가트리는건 아쉽군요.
I'm still using this as my primary mouse with this jank cable. Lol
Is this better than an actual Logitech Mouse? Can you make an review? How about your keyboard? It is good? What model is?

I wonder why they won't re-release it
