I've probably said this before, but despite having different tastes I enjoy listening to you, because you are very passionate and descriptive about your favourites. Some people just list their numbers and it's boring. With you I've listened to the whole thing and you manage to speak passionately even about games I don't care about. I certainly won't rush to play through someone else's top 100, but you've inspired me to try some of new to me games before by constantly speaking about them. All in all do what you think is right and thanks for the videos!
Thanks! More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
You know man, you’ve crushed me many times with games I’ve purchased only to see your review destroy the game before I can play it - but I keep coming back because you’re one of the few BG content creators that doesn’t pull punches and has the backbone to stand by their opinion. I’ll always respect that, and I’m thankful for your hard work. Also - damn, that intro is something else 🔥🔥
Thanks for the series. I really liked your format - a good balance of coverage for the amount of work it must be for you and for the viewing required to get through it all. Appreciated you getting through the bottom 80 more quickly while still covering them all. Cheers!

Sorry but I am one of your biggest advocates for having a Top 100 list. I get it is a massive workload for you, so you do whatever you feel is best for you. Perhaps a top 25 every year and a top 100 every two or three years? Maybe if you feel like doing top 100 without all the work, do 50-100 in one video where you really do just go through each game in less than a minute and maybe instead of doing the extra work of showing images you pull the game off your shelf as you go through each. But I enjoy watching them and I am not someone who goes out watching all the top 100's, you are one of the few I will sit through. So.... with that in mind what do I do on other top 100 lists, yep generally top 20 or 40 or so and skip the other videos they put out, so perhaps that is where you might start. Thanks for the work and sharing your top 100, definitely some interesting movers. PS - ONE big disagreement with you though, the time taken to get games to UK.... try living here down under lol. Often there is a KS game fulfilled everywhere or in most places and all we have is an ETA on when the games get on a boat! Plus we really only have one fulfillment partner which makes it worse.

Great video. I was shocked to see Hegemony not be your #1 :) played for the first time last weekend and I think I am in love. It can actually be my #1 if I play more.
It's so good! But yeah #1 with its difficulty to get played would be a bit much. But the fact that such a mammoth game gets played every convention speaks volumes.
I don't need to own 100 games, but hearing about 100 games allows me to learn about games I haven't heard of, and may pick up. It's more educational to me than entertainment.

@@TheBrokenMeeple you do whatever makes you happy. It is your channel, and burnout is a thing. You have an audience that values your opinion and enjoys your content, cutting back slightly on the production for the sake of your mental health/happiness/time consumption won't change that. I enjoy top 100's for hearing about many games in a condensed fashion. Top 50's, top 20's do the same thing on a smaller scale. You don't need to do a full overview for each game, just a box cover and a still of the game in action. If you have already reviewed the game you have the footage available. But again. I'm a viewer and am watching free content, I am just happy channels like yours exist. Thank you for your hard work and entertainment.
Please continue to do the top 100. I liked seeing some of the lesser known games lower down your list and it has given me some great stuff to add to my wishlist. I think this format worked well of doing blocks of 20 until the last two. If you wanted to make fewer videos you could do 3x 30 and then one last video for the final 10 next time
More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow! I might do 50 in one video with only covers and no other photos, that would speed it up a lot.
I've watched your vids for a while, but this is the first top 10/100 of yours. I think having knowledge of a reviewers preferences helps to contextualize their opinions. Thematic and cooperative games isnt what I wouldve guessed! I definitely understand the disdain for dry Euros. I dont understand the point of them, as well. My tastes lean more interactive/combative than yours haha
I've enjoyed watching the whole top 100 and your thoughts on each game. I could see why you would want to pare down to 50. If you do, I'd still like to see your 51-100 in text format!

I enjoy top 100's. I do like this format where you do batches of 20 for the bulk of the list, before switching to lists of 10. Great list, thanks for putting it together

Players on BGA playing Ark Nova being a bit unfriendly? Tell me about it. There are some people who prioritise their BGA rating points WAY higher than being nice :(
BGA (even premium) is the worst. You always get matched with "people" seven times your ELO rating that destroy you because it's your 30th game and their 2000th. And every game it's just players that obsess over that game and that game alone. Will never return to BGA. Only in-person for me :)
@@perw34384 I'd be interested to know if your experiences match mine, because I too tend to find rude, impolite and self-serving unsportsmanlike behaviour is something most usually seen from one (or two) nationalities :(
I discovered your channel almost as soon as I began buying games a few years ago and my collection is entirely built on your recommendations. We have different tastes and most of mine are in the bottom of your 100 so I hope you’ll continue to do this same format because otherwise I might miss out on reminders/new ideas. Thank you, it was a great series!
Thanks Luke. I personally really enjoyed your top 100!! Totally understand timing issues though. Also...Wow!! Colour me surprised...I think I'm still in shock with you bumping down Spirit Island. I know it only dropped to 4 but nevertheless...I cant quite believe it. I thought perhaps it might go to 2, but perhaps the nature incarnate expansion may have been enough to keep it at 1. But for it to drop 3 spots!!...all those poor dahan! Even though I really do want to try Ark Nova, I don't think it will ever beat out Spirit Island for me...but I may be wrong. Hedgemony also sounds really interesting but I wonder,...would you say its still fun to play solo or two player rather than with the full gambit of 4. I ask simply since, as you describe it, there is so much interaction between the "factions", do you not need all of them in play in order to make it a fully immersive and cohesive experience? Also...i know I've harped on about it before but, please try Unmatched. If needs must...I shall drive to Portsmouth on a weekend and gladly introduce it to you. The coop mode called unmatched adventures may be more up your street, but I personally prefer the original 1v1 battling mode. You want strategy, tactics and theme...you got it all here....and if you STILL not convinced...well, You've been taught it wrong and I can help.😂😂 Honestly, Thanks again...was a pleasure to watch your top 10 and all the rest of your top 100. (And poor sentinels...always a a bridesmaid...never the bride 😂)
Maybe instead of doing a top “number”, you can do a “all my games that I rate 8.5 or higher” or something like that. It’s probably more meaningful for you to focus on your absolute favorite games
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
So....I played Ark Nova this weekend past. Ok ok ok ok ok....It IS rather good isn't it!!! Wow! Really liked it. I think I need to play it more to get a fairer feel...currently it doesn't pip spirit island or unmatched for me, but I can see all your points. Very cute, very fun, enjoyable game, where honestly I don't care if I win or lose...I just enjoy playing the game. There are only a few games like that for me, where winning or losing doesn't detract from me enjoying the game and wanting to play again and again: Spirit Island, Lost Ruins, Clank Catacombs, Unmatched, and must admit...Ark Nova slips in there. You kinda good at this reviewing stuff aint you!!?? Heheheh...cheers for disseminating the info about it to me. 👍👍👊
I personally would rather you kept doing a top 100. I think the new format worked well. I get a lot of ideas from your 100 lists as i have very similar tastes and i enjoy your descriptions of games and reasoning why it sits where it does.
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Thank you, Luke. I watched all the videos and I hope you will keep the Top 100 format instead of a Top 50. I was also impressed by Hegemony who hit my #4 this year; and I am basically a 4X lover, preferably with a sci-fi theme (my top-3 are Scythe, Terraforming Mars and Dune: Imperium). Cheers!
Thanks for this top 100. I think for me I couldn't imagine NOT seeing the next full 100. But I understand from where you are coming from. If you only do the top 50 in 5 or 3 (50-31, 30-11 + last 10) installments, I would miss something. And that would mostly be the new games braking into the top 100-51, some returning and otherwise the main shifts within the top 100-51. You could do top 50 and maybe an extra video about the changes from 100-51. That would save you editing - but not ranking. But whatever you do, I will watch it all. I was afraid Arc Nova would finally bump SI off the no 1.
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Ark Nova will likely be in my top 10 next time I update my top 100, and it's by far my most played game last year and so far this year as well. It is indeed that good.
I very much enjoy watching your full top 100. The way you did it this year with groups of 20 to start was great. Thank you for continuing to put out excellent board game content. I appreciate you and all the work you put into it.
@@TheBrokenMeeple You should do what is best for yourself. We understand that 100 is a lot of work. If you want to do 50 instead, we will still watch and enjoy that as well. Or maybe 100-51 can just be in one video with much less editing and quicker discussion. Then 50-21, 20-11, and 10-1.
Really liked the format and the time you took to discuss your top 20. Like the fact that you breeze through 100 to 40. Pick the format that works best for you. I appreciate you top 100 because (obviously) there is less negativity and rants on the types of games you dislike. Also appreciate the fact that you play your top 10 games often. Something to think about! Sometimes, I see videos where the number 1 game is a game that gets played once every 2 years…
It can vary, certainly I play a lot more games of Earth then for example Frostpunk, but it still comes down to ultimate desire to play and how much fun it gives when it is played.
I like how you did you shortened the lower ranks. The advantage of the lower ranks, is that you tend to learn about more new games. Everyone knows Arche Nova and Spirit Island. I don't know how much of your effort goes into ranking compared to making the video, but you could explain less about the lower ranks and save work there. On another note, so many people seem to love Arche Nova - and I really want to like it, but I struggle so bad to get it started. Early game is an absolute pain and we usually play what feels like (not actually) half the game, before we get to the first few green victory points. I am quite certain we play it wrong and my girlfriend absolutely adores the theme. Could you make something like a strategy guide on your favorite game? I'd greatly appreciate it. (We played like three games, so of course we are not great at it, but the slow start doesn't really make us want to play it.) Thanks for your videos.
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Great list! I share many of your favourite games. A question: do you play with the venomous abilites in Ark Nova? (Don't remember if it called that). I usually play with the blue abilites instead. Mostly due to me teaching this game for new players and that rule is just easy to skip and because I don't think I need "take that" in this game. Feels a bit tacked on aswell. Thanks for your videos Luke! Greetings from Finland.
I’ll watch whatever size list you do. So do what’s best for you. I just bought Jagged Earth and can’t wait to try the new spirits. Ark Nova would be 2nd on my list and I agree that it’s addictive. I just want to play it over and over. I also picked up Sentinels of Earth Prime on Steam. Any thoughts on that version of Sentinels? I have yet to play it Keep up the good work
My mate has it, I've tried it. I do like it but I think it goes one step even further than original Sentinels in how much text there is on all the cards!
Thanks for sharing your top 10 games! Glad to see Earth (recent aquisition) and 7 Wonders Duel on your list as I have those games and enjoy them. May need to check out Ark Nova!
Nice job, appreciate the hard work for providing us with a pool of good games as potential buys/try-outs. Top 50 could be sufficient, unless few new games are added each year, which would reduce added value of providing a pool of good new games to check out.
Final crossovers with my 2023 Top 250 list: Kanban (#200), Earth (#77), 7 Wonders Duel (#20 with the original 7 Wonders), and Ark Nova (#4 and I play this a ton on BGA as well). Altogether. we had 29 crossovers (30 crossovers if 7 Wonders and 7 Wonders Duel are treated separately). Also, I played Hegemony for the first time a few weeks ago and it has the potential to make my 2024 list, but I really need my weekend gaming buddies to set up this game a second time for that important nudge. A fun list as always!
Luke, tbh, I only watch top 10 or top 20 countdowns of people I follow. I started the hobby 6 years ago and I'm slowly approaching 100 games in my collection. Money is a big factor on which games I purchase. I don't go over $50-$60 a game. But I do still like to hear real people talking about their top games. Thank you!!
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Found it too punishing and restrictive. And at the time I was a little a little anti "side deck building" :P Nowadays I'm more used to it if it's done right, but some games like Dune Imperium and even GWT to some extent I do feel could have done it another way.
@TheBrokenMeeple ah that’s fair. I think the deck building is my least favorite element of that gave. I love the movement mechanism to select your action and the challenge of getting money for employees and buildings. Definitely a tight game though, especially your first few plays.
@@TheBrokenMeeple thanks. I liked the price/quality of the geeknson Megan, but just to discount it because the internal size is only 78cm, too small to be off any use for most genres 😟
Love your top 100 and excited to see someone else who likes Ark Nova! Metal coins? I havent heard of the insert you mentioned and use the FS myself. Ill have to explore SW Duel on BGA. I am likely missing something but find it feels like a luck-of-the-flip situation. Earth is great. Dont get to play as much as I want. Same with Spirirt Island.
My own personal top 10 has Spirit Island and Ark Nova reversed in the same positions. Kanban EV is easily my most favourite Lacerda game (followed by On Mars and then Vinhos), yet I’ve never actually felt compelled to actually own any of his games yet. We’ll see about Speakeasy…
I like hearing about all 100 top games. But I understand it takes a lot of effort. The faster 100-40 tiers worked fine. I hope you will do at least the top 50 next year
My collection is around 50, and I do really enjoy the 100 count as it helps me gain exposure to games I've never even heard of! Though, top 50 would make a lot of sense in terms of the work load. My vote would be top 100, but top 50 makes total sense next time around.
Great to see all the changes in your Top 100! Many games had 30+ dips/hikes, compared to last year's! Surprised to see Hegemony at #3, it didn't make my Top 100, I guess we found it to be a bit too scripted and confrontational for our taste. On the other hand, glad to see many recent games on the list - a lot of new stuff to try out!
I'm a big fan of the top 100 and watched every episode this year. You never know when someone number 75 will be your next big hit. Either way, keep up entertaining work, and I'll keep watching. Cheers

I’ll admit that I only watched the Top 40 of this series and wasn’t so interested in the ones below that. Obviously, only speaking for myself, but I think limiting to Top 50 or Top 25 makes sense. I watch plenty of your other content, so keep up the great work!
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
I do think there's a problem with doing a lot less than 100 that we will likely miss out on hidden gems... for the beginner gamer who owns 50 games sure a top 25 would be fine but if you own 200 odd games then I probably already know about everything in you're top 25! Just my 2 cents
Great list! As I expected lots of games I love, and some not so much. I have maybe 300 games. Plenty enough to last me years. Still, there are some days when I look at my shelves and think "I need more games". Btw, I recongnize that pavillion spam thingy...
Please don’t stop doing the full 100 - by all means merge the bottom end into fewer episodes but the full list is a useful trigger on games to check out we might have missed.
@@TheBrokenMeeple ultimately you need to enjoy what you do, but we really enjoy watching you talk about all the games you love not just the best of the best!
You need to play Spirit Island again! Also the moment you mentioned, this is the last new game (highest), I immediately thought, oh you mean Hegemony. :D
This is one of few channels with the ability to give me doubt. I was planning on getting Distilled as my next game but I may have to consider Arc Nova now. Thanks, thanks for that😂
Great to see some interesting picks. So these are your favourite games you like to play, we have plenty of crossovers but with some others we are polar opposites anyways thanks for sharing!
My thoughts on top 100. I think it definitely could be 3 total videos- top 10 of previous year, top 10 all-time (if a game from previous year is in this list, add some games and make it a top 13 or whatever - talk for 1 min on the new game to show where it is in the list but refer people to your other video for more details), top 10 games that are 3, 4, 5 years or older (pick what you think is the best and do a similar thing, if it’s on your top 10 all-time, just talk 1 min on it and refer to the other video). This gives us 30 games in a smattering of different video titles. If you wanted to add a 4th video, make it top 10 at solo or 2 players or something. Maybe change up the 4th video topic every year. You already do a top 10 from the previous year anyways.
While I also have a different gaming taste - games of no more than 45 minutes, medium to light, or a series of meaty fillers, with Knizia, Schacht, Colovini and Abstract biases - I enjoy your passion and ever present honesty - keep it up! As for your future 'all time best games' - yes, maybe a Top 50 is enough (3 videos, 50-31, 30-11, 10-1) - and perhaps, if you wish, this could be preceded by a quick 100-51 'listing only' where we, your viewers, could check out the detail on those ourselves (another content provider and your countryman, Chairman otB, took this listing approach for those outside his Top 100 a few months ago).
Thank you! Hegemony rules! Still have to try any Ladera games - heard Gallerist is more thematic and Lisboa is regarded higher by most You have too many coop for my liking - we are playing in a meet up environment- and coop games would never make it there Earth is meh Ark Nova - number one though… did they send you a copy for free and promised some goodies? Party game Detective - have to try - is it comparable to Code Names in any way?
No it's nothing like Codenames, it's closer to Dixit. Co-ops are great for me. I can play solo or group, teach much easier to new players and they have a lot of interaction. And Ark Nova is fantastic, played it last night, still love it! :D
Excellent list! Kanban EV keeps hitting a lot of top 10s and seems to be right down my alley. I guess I should get it. Also added a few others to my list of “most haves”. Thanks! I personally prefer to 10’s and seldom if ever watch anything but that. For sure 100 is never on my watch list. At most top 20 or 25. Just one board game lovers opinion. Again, great list!
I think a Top 100 is nice, but I concur with a few who said, just do it every 2-3 years. Do smaller and more thematic lists throughout the year. And you mentioned cutting down the edit process... If I'm watching reviews of games I'm less familiar with or I'm thinking about trying out... getting the whole package (pictures, gameplay, and reviewer's personal opinion) is kinda what I look for... 🤷🏻♂️
I'll still be doing an annual update, but I'll find ways to really speed through the bottom sections faster. And don't worry, I'm going to make sure I do more Top 10 general lists this year.
Seriously your praise for Deep Rock Galactic is ahead of its time, my family and I got it and just looked at each other and said, "Ok was that the closest to a videogame experience on board?" which was followed with a resounding "YES". We all fell in love and kickstarted the next big wave! Our tastes are so similar, love to try and playthrough your list over time! What are your thoughts on Marvel Champions?
7 Wonders Duel is one of my favourite games of all time. I definitely want to buy Earth and Ark Nova. I love nature themes. The fact that it's your favourite game of all time is really swaying me to buy it soon! ☺
I think for most viewers, the specific ranking and game experiences of a game critic are secondary concerns. Many tune in to identify a reviewer with similar tastes and then find out about as many games that they enjoy as possible. The Top 100s are the most concise format for both these things, so the more games discussed, the better. Obviously, a lot of your subscribers are fans, so your stories and personality will count for more. Either way, people want more games and more of you talking about them. :)
More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow! Maybe just do board game covers, numbers "maybe", no further photos and just talk quickly through each set of 10 on the bottom 50. I'll think of something.
@TheBrokenMeeple There's nothing wrong with creating a different format for your Top 100 than you use for single game reviews. Obviously, those games have already been discussed at length prior to your Top 100. Personally, I really benefit from the reviewer holding up the box lid or displaying a graphic of the cover. If it's just a name for a game I don't know, I won't remember/retain information about it. But that's me. Audio learners won't have that issue.
Noted thanks. I got to admit, I was suspicious about the expansion part. It looked like it wanted you to separate the cards from marine out which is stupid. Thankfully it was out of stock when I bought some other ones I wanted so I can be glad I avoided that bullet.
I really should give Ark Nova a try given that it has had time for the hotness of it to die down and yet you still love it a lot. It sounds like a game I would like, but the time commitment scares me off a bit. I prefer 1 - 1.5 hour games, not 2-3 hour games. If I find a friend or a game cafe that have it and are willing to teach it then I will certainly not pass up the opportunity
I've got hundreds of hours in DRG but i just couldn't pull the trigger on that price tag for what seems to be a light co-op game. Would love to try it though. Side note: the DRG survivors game is out in early access on steam (vampire survivors type game) and its great!
A Top 100 does seem better when done in 20 set intervals like you did. That being said I don’t usually care about 100 to 75, mildly about 75-50, 49-1 is when I start paying attention. I’m gonna buy Seasons based on your verve on its vibe, what number was that again? That’ll be a good litmus test for me
More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow! Maybe I'll do 50 in one video and just not put loads of photos in or clips. That's what takes the time.
100 videos does provide more exposure. Your videos feel like a great balance in relation to time. I like a bit more photos personally and feel your clips are perfect, like Bill Murray perfect (for those of us that like him). By the by, those Seasons dice are dope!@@TheBrokenMeeple
I used Pub Meeple as well and ranked the 230 games that I have played at least 3 times: 10 Imperial Struggle 9 Fire in the Lake 8 John Company: Second Edition 7 Kanban EV 6 Obsession 5 Carnegie 4 Lisboa 3 Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory 2 City of the Big Shoulders 1 Brass: Birmingham So cool that we matched on #3 and Kanban EV #6 vs #7
Cool on those two for sure. A couple of yours are lower in my list and many others are either ones I really don't like or probably wouldn't touch to begin with. :D
Earth (9), Frostpunk (7) and Hegemony (3) are among my favourites as well, could not say if all three would make my top 10 of all time, but best contender here would be Frostpunk probably, because I really fell in love with it from the start. I have only played Earth and Hegemony once multiplayer, didn't like the solo mode of Earth though (would never want to play Hegemony solo.. ^^). As I have only played Ark Nova once sadly, I could not say if I am in love with it or not, it was definitely no love at first sight.. but I really liked it! ;) I should definitely do a pubmeeple ranking one day..
I prefer top 100! Everyone on UA-cam has so many crossovers on their top 10s that it becomes way less interesting. I enjoy hearing about the games I don’t hear about everywhere else and enjoy hunting down older games that look interesting. Please keep doing top 100!
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Ark Nova is a pretty good game, I always love playing it and the asymmetric action cards in the expansion make it even more fascinating, trying to adapt your strategy to what best suits your special actions. But seeing it ranked higher than Sentinels or Spirit Island is like watching you enjoy a game of Barrage or Mage Knight 🤣🤣
FYI there is another solo variant for Ark Nova that is even better than ARNO, imho. Can't remember the name but it's on the files section in BGG, being posted a couple of months ago. It has almost zero maintenance and you only have to flip a card, while it does pretty much what ARNO does.
Oh really I've not heard of another contender..... I'll have to look that up. Arno doesn't have a huge amount of maintenance if you use the app on the browser but I'll take less maintenence 😉
Thanks for the top 10. I'm very divided on the choices. I love 7 Wonders Duel but I can't stand Sentinals. Ark Nova and Earth are meh for me. But my interest is piqued for Hegemony and Kanban.
I don’t think that Kanban EV is necessarily the most thematic / best Lacerda game: it might be the theme is one you are more acquainted with and so the game makes much more sense to you and many mechanisms come more naturally to you. I think that Lacerda games are all very thematic, but since they are also very complicated, if the theme doesn’t hit all the checkboxes in one’s mind, the game feels more complex and less thematic than it actually is.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Haven’t played inventions, but every game is thematic: you spend influence to promote artists in The Gallerist, increasing their fame. With increased fame, their works are worth more; when you sell a work of art, a visitor leaves your gallery… On Mars: the resource requirement for building are totally thematic and realistic; you can only build in your bots’ reach; you must move your rover around the surface to make discoveries or pick up crystals; you have to wait a shuttle to move between the orbit and the colony or “spend” your own ships, the resources on orbit don’t automatically replenish every round, available blueprints get better only as the colony levels up; the colony levels up constructing required types of buildings Lisboa: you pick up rubble to build more storage space and to build workshops; the “coloured” streets divided by workshop types was exactly how the city was rebuilt; you have to get influence with the nobles to have things done in the city; ships sail with goods only when they’re full, for efficiency needs; you need to spend favours with the architects in order to help in constructing public buildings. Weather machine: trying to make you see the theme in that game is like beating an undead horse that’s been banished by a cleric’s turn undead power at this point 🤣 The theme of the game is not the fictional weather machine but the scientific process of studying a phenomenon, publishing papers about it and providing a prototype based on such publications. It’s one of the most thematic Lacerda games. Kanban / Kanban EV has about the same amount of weird, unthematic little rules for game purposes like all the others. They’re all pretty thematic IMHO. Some themes may fall into a more comfortable zone with some people than others, which will make the game “more” thematic for them, but there’s pretty much theme in all of them.
Thanks! More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Yes, I agree with the number one, it would not be mine, but it would be in my top 5, and Kanban would also make my top 10.... the other games in your top 10... since I do not like coöp a lot of them would not even be in my top 100, 7 Duel is fun but not top 10 for me and I have yet to get Hegemony. It was a great top 100, a lot of movement and that makes it interesting, looking forward to the next one.
I watched everything from 100 to 1 Luke. I think there is certainly merit in watching everything so you understand what the creator likes and not like and hence judge whether something is for you or not. And hey it is entertaining to watch! So I say you should keep the format! With that said, quite happy the only two games that will add to my wish list after watching everything is fort and pursuit of happiness…so not doing too bad! (Although tonnes of other games are already on the wish list like viscounts…

I am liking the way you were doing it. And after following you for a while I already know you are kind of person who can absolutely sit there talk about your no.100 for 45 minutes. So good luck with that!@@TheBrokenMeeple
I don't play as many different kinds of games as you do: I don't like solo games or long strategy games, even co-op, and no social deduction or guessing or bluffing, so I don't have a burning desire to try the games in your top 10 list that I haven't already. That said, Ark Nova, with or without expansion, ties as my favorite game with terraforming mars, and is number one all by itself in the friendly mode. Of the others tried, I liked seven wonders duel (I'd probably like it more and be tempted to buy it if I played two-player games more than a few times a year), I didn't like spirit island, and I absolutely love Earth; also an easy top 10 for me.
First game of Hegemony I played the state and ... Ran away with it. Made me think the state was a bit better than the other roles or at least easier to play. Trying to tank the guy who is helping you out can be difficult for some people though and if I played the state again and one guy was trying to turn the others against me I'd be giving them squat.
The State I do think is the best faction but mainly because new players don't understand how you have to not take every single benefit they offer and you want to drain their coffers to put them on edge. If they really start getting good then yes, bringing in the IMF is necessary.
I completely agree with you about everything you said.

Thank you so much!! :-)
Thanks for the series. I really liked your format - a good balance of coverage for the amount of work it must be for you and for the viewing required to get through it all. Appreciated you getting through the bottom 80 more quickly while still covering them all. Cheers!

I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into these videos. Thank you. @@TheBrokenMeeple
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Completely agree with this!

More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow! Maybe only do board game covers, no other photos, and speed through the bottom 50.
You need to keep making a top 100. My ambition as a designer is to once make it into one of these lists, and as such I can't have them even narrower 🙃

Players on BGA playing Ark Nova being a bit unfriendly? Tell me about it. There are some people who prioritise their BGA rating points WAY higher than being nice :(
Yeah, BGA suffers from that unfortunately, but it's the easy way to play 2 player Ark Nova quickly and not in "turn" mode.
BGA (even premium) is the worst. You always get matched with "people" seven times your ELO rating that destroy you because it's your 30th game and their 2000th. And every game it's just players that obsess over that game and that game alone. Will never return to BGA. Only in-person for me :)
@@TRCizzleYep, I just use it for games with long-distance friends. I don’t bother touching ranked games
There are salty sore losers like 5/10 games I play. Most of them are from the same part of the world which I prefer not to say out loud.
You're welcome thanks! And don't worry I'll stick to 100!
You want strategy, tactics and theme...you got it all here....and if you STILL not convinced...well, You've been taught it wrong and I can help.😂😂
Honestly, Thanks again...was a pleasure to watch your top 10 and all the rest of your top 100.
All games in the Top 100 are 8 or higher. . . . and I hate decimal ratings.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I feel like if all the games in your top 100 are 8’s to you, then you don’t need to shorten your list.
I personally would rather you kept doing a top 100. I think the new format worked well. I get a lot of ideas from your 100 lists as i have very similar tastes and i enjoy your descriptions of games and reasoning why it sits where it does.

Cheers!
More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow!
Thanks for all the work it took to create this list.
You're very welcome! It certainly takes a while! Some other creators get off lucky with not having to think about editing!

(We played like three games, so of course we are not great at it, but the slow start doesn't really make us want to play it.)
Thanks for your videos.
u probably played it right. it is really slow start. then all the points are in the last 4 turns.

I prefer to play with blue abilities, but can take or leave it. When others are hosting it's their call.
I have yet to play it
Keep up the good work
My mate has it, I've tried it.
Give it a go!!

Yes by all means get that Hegemony played again! 30 crossovers, I'll take that as a positive!
Thank you!!

Great Top 100 this year, Luke! :-D Thanks for doing all the work to make these... always fun.
Glad you like them!
1:48 haha what’s your beef with Great Western Trail first edition? That may be my favorite game of all time!
I was waiting for Hegemony to appear somewhere in the top 100. Didn’t expect it to shoot that high. Glad that some games can still surprise you.
They are the best ones. In an industry where innovation is nearly dead, a good surprise is the best I can get!
Thanks for the list. If you have played it, whats your opinion on Bot Factory?
Not played I'm afraid.
What gaming table is that and would you buy it again given the chance? I'm after one but there are a few choices 😁
Geeknson, nice table, poor service.
Do you have any recommendations for brands of sleeves?
Sleeve kings ftw
My own personal top 10 has Spirit Island and Ark Nova reversed in the same positions.
Kanban EV is easily my most favourite Lacerda game (followed by On Mars and then Vinhos), yet I’ve never actually felt compelled to actually own any of his games yet. We’ll see about Speakeasy…
I like hearing about all 100 top games. But I understand it takes a lot of effort. The faster 100-40 tiers worked fine. I hope you will do at least the top 50 next year
Should at very least be Top 50.

Hmmm, also check BoardGameGeek in the files section.
I do think there's a problem with doing a lot less than 100 that we will likely miss out on hidden gems... for the beginner gamer who owns 50 games sure a top 25 would be fine but if you own 200 odd games then I probably already know about everything in you're top 25! Just my 2 cents

Hi Luke, great list. Can you comment on whether Hegemony works well with 2 players please?
Thanks. It's decent with two, but by far it's better with 3-4. If you have the expansion you can add an AI faction in to a 2 player to bulk it up.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Thx, that's helpful

Same #1 game of all time! I can’t wait to try Marine Worlds for the first time when I play this weekend. The BGA implementation is so good!
We need a review of Rook City Renegades from you!
What's there to say though? it's more of the good stuff!
Still have to try any Ladera games - heard Gallerist is more thematic and Lisboa is regarded higher by most
You have too many coop for my liking - we are playing in a meet up environment- and coop games would never make it there
Earth is meh
Ark Nova - number one though… did they send you a copy for free and promised some goodies?
Enjoyed your top games lists. I like Ark nova but I don't have the right boardgame group for three hour games.
Fair enough!
Man... our tastes might be as close to opposite as it gets. No matter, always enjoyable to watch your videos!
I appreciate that!
Ha ha, great to hear on Deep Rock! I really enjoy Marvel Champions as well, that featured I believe in my 40-21 section.
You are the man@@TheBrokenMeeple! Thanks for the list and screenshots and all the editing that goes with that!
@@dadtier564 much editing indeed 😴😴😴😴😜
7 Wonders Duel is one of my favourite games of all time. I definitely want to buy Earth and Ark Nova. I love nature themes. The fact that it's your favourite game of all time is really swaying me to buy it soon! ☺
Top 50 in video form and 50-100 in a list form. That works!
Love the top 100. The more games, the better!
I wouldn’t bother with the eRaptor storage. Doesn’t hold the expansion very well, and the cards not at all.
Haven't given the spinoffs much of a look but probably ought to at least glance.
I used Pub Meeple as well and ranked the 230 games that I have played at least 3 times:
10 Imperial Struggle
9 Fire in the Lake
8 John Company: Second Edition
7 Kanban EV
6 Obsession
5 Carnegie
4 Lisboa
3 Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory
2 City of the Big Shoulders
1 Brass: Birmingham
So cool that we matched on #3 and Kanban EV #6 vs #7
Cool on those two for sure. A couple of yours are lower in my list and many others are either ones I really don't like or probably wouldn't touch to begin with. :D
I haven’t played 8-10 but your top 7 are great!
@@cgrice1971 thx….
Not played earth at 4, not had a table big enough. It takes up so much room but I love the game
First things first, get those games played a second time ;-)
I prefer top 100!
I haven't even heard of FrostPunk ...so many games.
Detective Club & Ark Nova are great.
Keep the 100!! I’ll watch either way though 😊
Maybe the 100-50 can be one episode. Hurry through them. Because Having the whole ”story” is fun.
More people saying do 100 then not which I'm surprised by. Guess I'll just need to try and make them even quicker or less edit heavy somehow!
No cosmic encounter?
Nah that's been dropping for me a lot. I think I talk about it in the aftermath podcast
I knew it! Hegemony is my new number one game !
So which is more thematic then Kanban? Don't you dare say the abstracted Weather Machine or the non thematic Inventions. 😉
@@TheBrokenMeeple Haven’t played inventions, but every game is thematic: you spend influence to promote artists in The Gallerist, increasing their fame. With increased fame, their works are worth more; when you sell a work of art, a visitor leaves your gallery…
On Mars: the resource requirement for building are totally thematic and realistic; you can only build in your bots’ reach; you must move your rover around the surface to make discoveries or pick up crystals; you have to wait a shuttle to move between the orbit and the colony or “spend” your own ships, the resources on orbit don’t automatically replenish every round, available blueprints get better only as the colony levels up; the colony levels up constructing required types of buildings
Lisboa: you pick up rubble to build more storage space and to build workshops; the “coloured” streets divided by workshop types was exactly how the city was rebuilt; you have to get influence with the nobles to have things done in the city; ships sail with goods only when they’re full, for efficiency needs; you need to spend favours with the architects in order to help in constructing public buildings.
Weather machine: trying to make you see the theme in that game is like beating an undead horse that’s been banished by a cleric’s turn undead power at this point 🤣
The theme of the game is not the fictional weather machine but the scientific process of studying a phenomenon, publishing papers about it and providing a prototype based on such publications.
Good to see Ark Nova at no. 1, a brilliant game. Top 25 would be a good number
Love the casual fart just after 12:34. You do you.
Top 50 would be great
1. 50-31
2. 30-11
3. 10-1
Thanks! More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
Bro...literally 32% of your top 100 of all time is also found in mine... **waving to my distant soul mate**, lol
Ha ha excellent!
Definitely recommend Hegemony as you clearly seem to like some heavy titles there. Just expect a learning curve.
Top 25 is a good shout👍
I watched everything from 100 to 1 Luke. I think there is certainly merit in watching everything so you understand what the creator likes and not like and hence judge whether something is for you or not. And hey it is entertaining to watch! So I say you should keep the format!
With that said, quite happy the only two games that will add to my wish list after watching everything is fort and pursuit of happiness…so not doing too bad! (Although tonnes of other games are already on the wish list like viscounts…
More people have said do 100. It just means I need to figure out a way to be even faster with the bottom lot, maybe just don't use as many photos, just have the board game cover, maybe 1 photo absolute max and minimise the video clips.
I am liking the way you were doing it. And after following you for a while I already know you are kind of person who can absolutely sit there talk about your no.100 for 45 minutes.
So good luck with that!@@TheBrokenMeeple
I feel like I've not played enough games to really make a good top 10
Someone is Cult of the New
Have you seen the rest of the list?? Or hell most reviews I do? 😉 I don't think many are going to agree with you on that 😂
I was just referring to this list. And just teasing. Enjoy what you like!@@TheBrokenMeeple
7 wonders duel was a game that got me excited for the expansions and I liked neither. I actually hated pantheon breaking the rhythm.
I'm very surprised people aren't fans of Pantheon, but breaking the rhythm is what can stop the "long term inevitability" issue that arises.
Listening to this as I was doing other things (not watching).....and found myself wondering what this 'Erf' game was all about!!
My speech problems resurface every now and again.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I think your accent is cute. 😏
Some good crossovers there, but yeah it's a small group of us that love a good co-op.
