The thing I love about party games is that even people who have bad experiences with boardgames, want to give it a go sometimes. We played herd mentality with my side of the family and after a few rounds my dad shouted: "I'm actually good at this game!" It shows you're very much of a social gamer. For me the opposite is the truth - playing with my wife, sometimes also with our daughter, but mostly just in 2-player setup. And if that's the case, silent thinkers is our favorite kind of games ;)
Don't be hard on yourself. We all have a manner of speaking, and using the word "simple" isn't a huge deal. You did a great job with this video, and I like the shelf walkthrough!
Being weirdly annoyed about boxes is unpleasantly relatable. Leder games need to get their act together. None of their root products are alike on the side of their boxes. Icons and logos all higgledy and askew
Love your taste so much. Ticket to Ride has been such a good gateway for me lately especially, my in-laws in particular are really into It. Also, having Blue Lagoon and 7 Wonders Architects AND Lords of Vegas AND Coloretto. You objectively have the best collection in the world.
It’s almost like you created your own Tetris-like game of fitting the board games into your shelves (and associated frustration when you have some left over that don’t quite fit)…
Incredibly well-organized shelves and a great collection! Love the format of favorite game and most underrated for each shelf. How many games do you have in your collection?
Thanks for the video. You've found Foundation of Rome "overproducted", theres similar mechanics in "Warsaw rising up" game, with scoring for neighborhood while building the town, and wood + paper elements. Nice game, two modes: simple - just build the town, advanced - with workers and resources.
Hab & Gut is a game that we tried to import for SO MANY YEARS and when I *finally* found a copy for sale for a reasonable price.... they announced the english print just a couple days later. It's SUCH a fantastic game. I appreciate that they used the same art and everything, truly just a translation not a re-skin of the game!
If we're considering puns on Agatha Christie for a shelf name, I'm slightly suspicious that nobody has put forward "And then there was Fun" as a play on one of her best (and most famous) novels. Or "Mousetraps" after her loooooong running West End play? "The Shelf pack'd from Side to Side" or "Cards on the Table" (from lesser known works)? Maybe "Games Afoot" if we want to slide over and make a Conan Doyle reference?
9:36 The reason such games (Herd Mentality, Dixit) are not for me is that I usually play with the same group of people so when I'm asked the same question, I will now know what to answer to win. Also, if I play with my wife + a new person, I'll always have an advantage because I know what my wife will answer and the new person won't.
To compare with Herd Mentality I'd highly recommend Blob Party, it's a co-op so removing the scoring makes it even 'simpler' and fast/fun. Curious if you've already played it / compared the two?
Ah yes! I've not been able to get a copy in the UK yet, but it does sound fun! I wonder how Americanized the questions are - that was one of my complaints with Green Team Wins.
Really interesting to see a UA-cam boardgamer with diametrically opposed interests in games. In my modest 35-game collection, we have a crossover of only 5 games. :)
God my collection and tastes are so different than yours ! I might have only a couple of games in common with you, Merchants and marauders and Caesar seize Rome in 20 min ! Well I guess the world is prettier when people have different tastes, isnt it ?
Thinking of an Agatha Christie shelf name. You could change "And Then There Were None" into something like "And Then There Was Fun." Or there is a book called "Cards on the Table" you could do something with.
It's brilliant, it's just not the best representative of that shelf, and it's also not underrated. I've raved about it in another video not that long ago.
Best team party game for my money is a supply of cheap blank cards to make your own Monikers deck. The boxed game is fine but there’s something magical about having a deck full of in jokes for the people who happen to be there at the time.
Before I become a serious gamer I would always play The Hat Game where you tear up bits of paper and write names on them. I've never thought to create a permanent deck but it sounds fun!
Some Murder Shelf alternatives, all Agatha Christie references (though personally, I like Murder Shelf and a +1 to Little Grey Shelf): Someone Always Dies Death in the Cards The LOL Murders Murder is Fun Once, Two, Solve the Clue A Murder is Announced
Now in SONG form! Lol jk, you already did that. GENIUS organization idea with the sliding scale of difficulty! I know because I did the same thing, just with worse names 😂. I 100% agree with Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Carcassonne, The Resistance and Pandemic! Also loved that you have Viral! Congratulations on being a new dad! I've noticed you have quite a few more party games than any other types... Do you prefer them over strategy games yourself, or are they just more convenient to please any guest? Loved the "Big Egos" and "Flat Shelf Society", I'm definitely stealing those 🤣 Any advice for a brand new Board Game Channel? I've been following you for a few years, your definitely in my top 3 favorite channels along with Shut Up and Sit Down and No Rolls Barred. Great video!
To be honest, now that I've reorganised I have more party games than I realised. I think they're easy to keep because it's not too hard to imagine getting them played, and there's quite a range of styles. But I don't play party games as much as I used to so perhaps it's time to cull some!
Every time I watch your videos my wish list grows exponentially. Absolutely agree with your box art rants and that games should definitely be stored vertically whenever possible. Could I ask where you got your shelving units from please?
I love how you get upset about games not having boxes, logos, names of the same size :D Brilliant :) I am the same, like why if all the bg boxes are let's say squares 29.5cm and then you get BloodRage which is 30.5cm? WHY!? I have a perfect shelf that fits those 29.5 boxes and then can't keep Blood Rage there! I think boardgame designers should really come up with some ISO :)
Have you ever played Dungeon Mayhem? Spectacular starter game for any game night. Easy to learn and satisfying to play and swap decks. The expansion is completely worth it to experience different play-styles and add more players to the table with a couple of new & spicy rules.
I gotta agree with the peril of the Legacy games, it took my group about a decade to actually have the same 5 people present and willing to play all 15 games of a Risk Legacy campaign and that's with them all still being within a 2 hour drive from me. Sure, it could've been done faster, but trying to force it would mean that there wouldn't be as many fun memories of the games, like how we made Greenland the most important territory on the map by connecting it to 3 more continents, or the foundation and subsequent nuking of the great city of Picklerickopolis (The city of New Picklerickopolis did escape nuclear hellfire though). One member of the group does want to eventually enshrine the game in a shadowbox frame. Of course, we learned nothing from this folly of time commitment and are now in the middle of a campaign of Seafall.
murder on the shelf rename: dead good fun, first degree muddle, cards out (a play on knives out), who played it/who solved it, a study in cardboard. "who solved it" isn't my favourite but might make santorini fit. over all i love your shelf names
There's an Agatha Christie book called 'Cards on the Table' which features a murder at a game of Bridge. I'm sure 'Cards on the Table' could be a shelf name.
03:00 such a good point which is way too often overlooked and ignored. My wife is very concerned about the looks of the sides and hates it when every 4 sides of a box are ugly. there are 4 ways to design. at least make them different or chances are my wife puts the whole game away, never to be seen again :D
BTW thanks for the note on Harvest, I was able to order a copy from the store you mentioned. Shipping to the states is steep but i'm looking forward to trying it out!
That's astonishing! A shelfie with no Vital Lacerdas, Martin Wallaces, Stefan Felds, Wolfgang Kramers, Michael Kieslings, Daniele Tascinis... Medium euros in general, for what it's worth (unless I missed something), not to say 18xx! Your group certainly has a totally different taste than ours. My shelves would be named "Brain Burners", "Economic Chaos", "Lighter, ma non troppo", "Let's Hoard Resources!" and "Worker Placement Extravaganza". LOL Thanks for the video, showing your fantastic collection!

I almost cheered to see Spring Meadow. It's possibly my absolute favorite game, and I do believe I got it on your recommendation!
JAIPUR as a couples game it’s lovely and incredibly…. Simple
Love your taste so much. Ticket to Ride has been such a good gateway for me lately especially, my in-laws in particular are really into It. Also, having Blue Lagoon and 7 Wonders Architects AND Lords of Vegas AND Coloretto. You objectively have the best collection in the world.
Haha, thanks 😁 Not everyone agrees 😂
It’s almost like you created your own Tetris-like game of fitting the board games into your shelves (and associated frustration when you have some left over that don’t quite fit)…
It will never be finished 🥲
Incredibly well-organized shelves and a great collection! Love the format of favorite game and most underrated for each shelf. How many games do you have in your collection?
225 games in total!
Im surprised you don’t have Mr. Jack in your “social deduction” category! Absolutely incredible movement deduction game by Bruno Cathala
That would have to go on a two player shelf! That game gives me AP pretty bad, so it didn't stick around.
You must love the boxes for Dude and More Dude having the side title flipped upside down on the box lol
Another publisher faux pas! But I can't rant about it all, I'll give myself a heart attack.
And then there was fun is brilliant! That might be the best yet. And The Games afoot is lovely too.
My wife is a HUGE fan of Concept! She uses it in her highschool classroom and the kids have way more fun than they first expect 👌👌
I love the way you hate some things 😂. I feel the same about the size of the boxes!
How are we expected to sleep at night?
9:36 The reason such games (Herd Mentality, Dixit) are not for me is that I usually play with the same group of people so when I'm asked the same question, I will now know what to answer to win. Also, if I play with my wife + a new person, I'll always have an advantage because I know what my wife will answer and the new person won't.
Hey hey now, I keep my games horizontal and I've barely murdered anyone 🥹
This was an incredibly cool video, and I am looking forward to re-watching it
To compare with Herd Mentality I'd highly recommend Blob Party, it's a co-op so removing the scoring makes it even 'simpler' and fast/fun. Curious if you've already played it / compared the two?
Ah yes! I've not been able to get a copy in the UK yet, but it does sound fun! I wonder how Americanized the questions are - that was one of my complaints with Green Team Wins.
Blank Slate is my choice for those type of games. Has never failed.
Really interesting to see a UA-cam boardgamer with diametrically opposed interests in games.
In my modest 35-game collection, we have a crossover of only 5 games. :)
I'd say a 14% crossover is pretty big. There are thousands of good games.
Great video - you have such a unique collection. There are SO many I have never heard of
God my collection and tastes are so different than yours ! I might have only a couple of games in common with you, Merchants and
marauders and Caesar seize Rome in 20 min ! Well I guess the world is prettier when people have different tastes, isnt it ?
I love how you show less popular games even though I have different taste. I agree about many underrated though!
Thinking of an Agatha Christie shelf name. You could change "And Then There Were None" into something like "And Then There Was Fun." Or there is a book called "Cards on the Table" you could do something with.
You should add Mindbug and Hero Realms to your two player games section ;)
You have Heat: Pedal to the Metal on the shelf, and no comments whatsoever. It's such a winner of a game.
I've never thought to create a permanent deck but it sounds fun!
wow that was a great 50 minute video
I feel like I'm missing a joke, considering you made this comment about 5 minute after the video released...
We like Luxor, I would say the set up and tear down takes a little long.
Hmm yeah, there's a lot of things to lay out.
Some Murder Shelf alternatives, all Agatha Christie references (though personally, I like Murder Shelf and a +1 to Little Grey Shelf):
Someone Always Dies
Death in the Cards
The LOL Murders
Murder is Fun
Once, Two, Solve the Clue
A Murder is Announced
Highly recommend adding Jaipur to your couples game shelf. Its a favorite for my wife and i. Also comes in a small box for amazing Fun Density™️
Loved the "Big Egos" and "Flat Shelf Society", I'm definitely stealing those 🤣
Any advice for a brand new Board Game Channel? I've been following you for a few years, your definitely in my top 3 favorite channels along with Shut Up and Sit Down and No Rolls Barred. Great video!
To be honest, now that I've reorganised I have more party games than I realised. I think they're easy to keep because it's not too hard to imagine getting them played, and there's quite a range of styles. But I don't play party games as much as I used to so perhaps it's time to cull some!
My advice would be to stick to your strengths and passions - don't try to give people what they want if it's out of your wheelhouse.
At least the rage it gives you is thematic! 😁
@@actualolhmm either you just can't wait to reply to these messages or you have a baby waking you up through the night 😂
Haha, yep it's the second one 🤣😴
Have you ever played Dungeon Mayhem? Spectacular starter game for any game night. Easy to learn and satisfying to play and swap decks. The expansion is completely worth it to experience different play-styles and add more players to the table with a couple of new & spicy rules.
What about "Death on the Tile" for your murder shelf? Not all the games have tiles, but otherwise is wordplay on Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile"
Ooh yeah that is good.
You fools! Can't believe you started another one 🤣
I think 20 simples an hour is a pretty respectable rate
I appreciate your leniency 🙏
murder on the shelf rename: dead good fun, first degree muddle, cards out (a play on knives out), who played it/who solved it, a study in cardboard. "who solved it" isn't my favourite but might make santorini fit. over all i love your shelf names
There's an Agatha Christie book called 'Cards on the Table' which features a murder at a game of Bridge. I'm sure 'Cards on the Table' could be a shelf name.
That would be a great name! Is the book any good?
LOL
Thanks for the video, showing your fantastic collection!
I have Castles of Burgundy on my review shelf that I might end up keeping. As for Wolfgang Kramer I have 6 Nimmt 🤣
38:24 Actually laughed out loud, I wasn’t expecting that 🤣
Here's my confession: I keep my board games horizontally
🙀
love the anger at box covers, I am like that at work with crap IT...More beauty in the world more care pleaseeee!
awesome video,thanks so much 😊
Aw, I was hoping this would be a video you talked about 'This War of Mine'. I have it on back order, and as a fan of the video game I'm really looking forward to trying it.
I've talked about it on the channel before if you have a search. Back in 2017/2018 top games.
Ah cool, I shall check it out!
The klask shelf is my favorite, so many underrated gems there
🤣🤣
Where do these shelves come from?! They are perfect!
IKEA's Besta range. You can set your shelves wherever you want.
I've been here for years, still waiting on root lmao
Shelf name “All killer no filler”
Oh, very nice.
I did ‘brown food’ in Concept and 7 other people said ‘chocolate’ in unison. And they were right.😂
