the wire changes color. Even if the enamel is not completely removed, the temperature of the soldering iron is 350 degrees Celsius. The enamel burns out.

Yes I can do this by ear just not much information on the actually difference between the screw distance verses the coil distance when covered, uncovered or is it always the same? I read that Seth Lover believed this did not affect tone and the screw was added for marketing. It seems that lowering the coil and raising the screw adds brightness. When I made them flush and same distance it seems darker. Do you also find this to be the case or have a different approach?
Friend, what resin or material does a Gibson SG 61 pickup have? They are custom classic 57s. I opened it to change the nickel-plated covers, but I see that they are lightly coated with something similar to candle wax. Can you guide me? Thanks
@@adrianrojas6658 look up wax potting it is to prevent microphonics. The pickup is potted before the cover is installed at the factory, don't use tape it will create a gap and cause feedback in my experience put some wax in between the bobbin and cover, solder the cover on. Google or youtube how to install covers correctly.

You could also use a different tension on each coil, or even a different tpl or other coil geometry change, though my experience in this is limited, and this knowledge and how to apply it is the most closely guarded secret among winders.
What do the pole screws actually screw into? The base plate or the metal keeper bar? I'm confused because it looks like neither of them are threaded/tapped.
They are screwed in, self-threading, through the bobbin into the backplate. Since the metal of the screws is harder than nickel silver, the screws themselves cut the threads. The holes on the metal keeper are larger than the diameter of the screws so they can pass freely through them.
@@8BombCustom A pickup like Sustaiac (Brand name). Generally it replaces/mounted at neck pickup's place, in proximity of high end of fret board. Instead of simple clipping, it enhances the amplitude and then clips. the impedance of the pickup is very low (thicker wire and less number of winding of coils and magnetism is focused at string. For impedance matching and clipping there is an interface circuit board to be fitted in cavity of the guitar, bearing electronic control switches etc.

A proper LesPaul can have infinite and controllable sustain, so I was not even interested. I have a narrower specialization. Perhaps if I find the time, I will figure out such a device.

With a multimeter you can only find out whether the pickups are working or not. Based on the resistance, you can make rough assumptions about the type and number of turns of the wire. You need to judge the sound with your ears.

Zdravo. I bought my machine from mojotone.com. This is a fairly simple machine, but with nice additions. Gauss meter, stepless speed control and good build quality. But out of the box, it is only suitable for winding single coils with manual wire layout. Therefore, I had to do it very hard and, in fact, finish the second half of the machine. It is a wire tensioner and an automatic coil spreader. Plus some humbucker winding gear. Of course, I paid customs duties, but this is not a problem to achieve the goal.

Your 59 clones are in usd $415. That's not cheap. Sorry you must live with rich people. You must be wreaking in 250k. Not that's bad kudos to you but don't tell me that's cheap when it's not. Plus shipping. For that I'll get a gibson custombuckers for that price.
What about the really important electrical characteristics (inductance and capacitance) as well as a frequency curve of the pickup? The minimum would be the location and height of the resonant peak .... only with these parameters can you see, how a pickup sounds. Doing this all by just copying other designs is not the best way, as it does not take into account variances in the material (especially the magnets and the type of winding (indirectly determining the capacitance of the pickup)). This is all completely non-scientific and only very limited reproducible.
You are absolutely right. But there are a couple of questions. What do you think, if I give here all the figures of the resonance peak, the error, the curve of the resistance change depending on the ambient temperature, the tension of the wire and the winding pattern, the curves of the dependence of the magnet force on the resonance peak and inductance? Do the audience need this? Do you think they will understand it? And what to do with the influence of alloys on the sound? How to measure it? And then after all these figures, how to explain the final sound in words and figures? I think in this place it is all unnecessary. Such information remains in the workshop for deep analysis and hundreds of comparisons. But in the end, the best sensor is always the ear. It does not lie.
@@8BombCustom unfortunately not, as psychology plays in many cases an even more important role. So double blind tests are the minimum requirements to move from "belief" to objective knowledge. These are practically always avoided - for obvious reasons. As this approach very quickly unmasks most of the "theories" shown in marketing messages, this is avoided whenever possible. For the manufacturers it is much easier to carry a completely artificially created message to the mostly non engineering musicians. This is easier to differentiate themselves from others and to justify price differences with. Objective and measurable facts would very quickly make clear how small the differences in pickups are - once you group them by basic electrical parameters. Suddenly it becomes really difficult to justify the extreme price differences between pickups. Snake oil in the year 2024.

I think the keeper is just so that the magnet touches the screws as much as possible through it for better transmission of the magnetic field.

You can make a PAF-style pickup but one CANNOT make a PAF. Not without a time machine anyway.

What about the really important electrical characteristics (inductance and capacitance) as well as a frequency curve of the pickup? The minimum would be the location and height of the resonant peak .... only with these parameters can you see, how a pickup sounds. Doing this all by just copying other designs is not the best way, as it does not take into account variances in the material (especially the magnets and the type of winding (indirectly determining the capacitance of the pickup)). This is all completely non-scientific and only very limited reproducible.
You are absolutely right. But there are a couple of questions. What do you think, if I give here all the figures of the resonance peak, the error, the curve of the resistance change depending on the ambient temperature, the tension of the wire and the winding pattern, the curves of the dependence of the magnet force on the resonance peak and inductance? Do the audience need this? Do you think they will understand it? And what to do with the influence of alloys on the sound? How to measure it? And then after all these figures, how to explain the final sound in words and figures? I think in this place it is all unnecessary. Such information remains in the workshop for deep analysis and hundreds of comparisons. But in the end, the best sensor is always the ear. It does not lie.
@@8BombCustom unfortunately not, as psychology plays in many cases an even more important role. So double blind tests are the minimum requirements to move from "belief" to objective knowledge. These are practically always avoided - for obvious reasons.
As this approach very quickly unmasks most of the "theories" shown in marketing messages, this is avoided whenever possible. For the manufacturers it is much easier to carry a completely artificially created message to the mostly non engineering musicians. This is easier to differentiate themselves from others and to justify price differences with. Objective and measurable facts would very quickly make clear how small the differences in pickups are - once you group them by basic electrical parameters. Suddenly it becomes really difficult to justify the extreme price differences between pickups. Snake oil in the year 2024.
