Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane! 66 years ago, when I was 13, several of the Filipino staff from my father’s work in La Jolla took me fishing at that pier. We caught 4 x 100 lb. potato sacks full of mackerel 😆

Thanks as always for watching Michael. I bet Oceanside looks a little different from how you remember, right?

Never been. Where to start? Here, Venice Beach, or Tijuana?

Is that a lens mount on the back of your video phone?

@@ChrisWesselman It is--it can accept a lens or a filter. The cage came with a magnetic ND filter, but with the auto nature of iPhone, it didn't really do much. I need to try it with the Black Magic camera app!

cost & brand/model ? Is it specific to phone model? I’m already interested in iPhone 16.

Thanks for sharing! A couple of other things:
    1. Loved Mr. Bibi's Korean place there. Unfortunately there was a fire there recently and the owners decided to retire after that happened. Loved to eat there, which is right on the Main Street where all the loud motorcycle and lowriders go... then go to the pier. There is a Handel's Ice Cream there that just opened in the same block. Also I like the donut shop near the tunnel you take to get to the pier.
    2. I took video shots of surfers on the pier itself. I felt I like I was way closer than I can get in Carlsbad or Encinitas from the beach. That is probably why my dad, who is in his mid-80s loves this place! He just stands there for a long time just watching the surfers. It is rather hard to catch a good surfer going through their full wave experience without getting a shot of them crashing.
If you go to Carlsbad and Encinitas, please let me know! Go to Box Canyon (may need a drone to get the best shots there... it is about 4 miles inland, but worth the drive), the Alila hotel which has a crazy good view in Carlsbad... and Aviara Hyatt also has a very nice view.
Encintas's best shot for me is the Coastal trail where you can see houses, conversion vans, pickup trucks with people sitting in the beds, bikers, walkers, the train, cars, and surfers and dolphins all in one panoramic view. What I love about it is you can walk and just stop when the sun actually sets. You don't really have to wait for it because you get a perfect view for most of that trail. Also Moonlight beach is fantastic, but my personal favorite is the Swami mediation garden run by the temple there. Amazing garden with an unmatched view!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I am going to Carlsbad, in a little over a week, to do an episode. And yes, I visited Handel's. It was right across the street from the Brick Hotel where I was staying--went there twice, and there was always a big line, at any time of day. Love their cones! I'll keep your notes handy for my visit.

@@PhotowalksTVAwesome! FYI: The coastal rail trail segment that I like starts at the corner of Santa Fe and San Elijo in Encinitas and goes south. That stretch on the "upper level" is fantastic. The Swami Garden is ABOVE the Swami's beach... it is not the same place. On Google Maps you will see it as "Self-Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens" NOTE: it does close at 5pm and it is kind of like an outdoor church, meaning you have to be quiet there as there are people praying, etc. There is also my favorite local taco place, called "City Tacos" between those two. You can walk that whole stretch because there is a pedestrian tunnel right there.
      Have fun!
