  • Alexis Ohanian tours PartPic, a tech startup that allows you to take a photo of a broken machine part and find its replacement.
    PartPic, founded in Atlanta, GA, offers visual search for replacement parts and is radically altering the industrial distribution market. So whenever the machine that builds your house-cleaning robot breaks, PartPic users can take a photo of the broken part and find out what it is and where to get it. For Small Empires, Alexis joins PartPic during their seed round of funding, as they seek venture capital investors to help them grow. He also meets one of their first potential customers, National Builder Supply.

    This is the type of programming that keeps my television shut off. Thanks Alex and The Verge for showcasing such inspirational people. They most definitely inspire me and I'm sure others to follow our dreams.

    This is awesome, but the problem I see is that Google could do the same much quicker. They have the database, they have the computer vision. Nothing stoping them from combining the two and providing to a much larger industry, not just the parts industry.
    Anyway, they will do well, they deserve it. I can see how hard they all work and those are the types of people that should get funded. Not just another photo sharing app.
    Good luck guys, which you all the best.

    This is so very inspiring for anyone who has an idea and wants to move on it. Hope, faith, belief, knowing and trust in your vision are just a few of the ingredients in 'the sauce' that creates success in any endeavor. I really needed this today, considering I've been working on tackling fears! Kudos to you, Jewel Burks / Partpic for your amazing accomplishments.

    part pick is almost irrelevant for most repair men. The Equipment manufacturer has exploded parts view which allow you to find the specific part your looking for so easily. It's an interesting idea, but it wont survive.

    • @MarsPunka
      @MarsPunka 9 років тому

      This may be true but they may gain a huge audience for older generations or female consumers who know nothing about all those little parts that may break and they need to find what it is and where to buy it.

    • @nerdglider
      @nerdglider 10 років тому +24

      why because all the founders are black, its Atlanta and she hired people she was worked with from Google, your comment makes no sense smh

    • @Nt8oh
      @Nt8oh 10 років тому +16

      sol Uhm... So, it isn't racist when it's a team of all-White founders? Really dude?!?

    • @soliton4
      @soliton4 10 років тому

      Nthato Moagi no, thats a cracy idea!
      its allways racist when only the same race sticks together in a company

    • @Nt8oh
      @Nt8oh 10 років тому +12

      sol Well, excuse me but I didn't notice your comments on any other episodes which showcase companies with all-White founders. And I feel like there's no need to. People can, may and should work with whoever they want to. This is especially important when it comes to starting a new company. As the founders mention in the video, the team was based on previous work experiences. Stop trying to start trouble. Stop detouring people's attention from the main objective here. These people are just trying to start their own empire. Please respect that, and stop judging them because of the colour of their skin. If anything, you're the racist here - not them.

    • @soliton4
      @soliton4 10 років тому

      so you are calling me a racist because i pointed out some racism. did i understand that right?
