I just wanted to say thank you for the game you played with me in my first cEDH game on sunday while you and some friends were killing time. I was the bruce thrasios deck with the bad mana base. It was cool to see the decks played at that power level.
Got a T1 win with Etali today. Certainly gets the blood flowing. Still need to grab/photcopy that velociraptor. Went smth along the lines of, t1 crypt+land+JEskasWill, play treasonous ogre, stop to bolt the OPs T1 drannith. First etali flipped a EE, imp recruiter and some wasted counterspells. Fetched rionya and a dockside (4 treasures/+2 mana), got me to 3 life with ogre to cast 2nd etali, flipped a birgi of OP and some stuff, FOW the birgi, but swatted the force (both for riyonnna spell xount). Got 6 copies of etali with riyona and from from there, with a mystical for wordly for sabertooth. Wooo 🎉
Etali is insane in any deck lol. I played a local two headed giant tournament this past weekend and I was on Pantlaza Dinos and my partner was on Zada Spellslinger. Long story short we made 2nd place after I cast Etali against an Atraxa Superfriends deck and he flipped into at least 3 different blink spells so I just blinked Etali multiple times a turn until my partner Zada'd for the win.
I run Allosaurus Sheperd and Destiny Spinner in my own lists as its come up I have been able to get spells to stick while a Bormir or Lavinia have been in play hosing my oppenents. Just Food for thought. Love the Commander i feel one of the most underrated decks in the format
@@ComedIanMTGanother consideration I run that also cpuld lean more into the political tool as well is Vexing Shusher. Allows you to pick and choose your spells if against situations where you need protection or even use it in a counter war that has an opponents win on the line.
I know it's a lot more effort, but you might want to put the cards on screen that you're talking about. A lot of newer players will not be able to follow
With all do respect without any of these cards being featured in video it takes 2 Secs to look them up on a seperate window. Alot of these cards mentioned can be found on other Lists online if newer players are interested in seeing them as well.
love seeing these types deck ive been trying out an equipment creature and vechicle decks with jetmir and LOVE IT trying to have all my creatures be dual utility (adventure cards like beanstalk giant or removal cards like cankerbloom or fog with spore frog etc) LOVE the deck
I don't play cedh at all but I really love Etali in my casual pod games. Today one of my friends borrowed my Etali deck and went for a crazy solring, arcane signet start - into double ramp turn 2. He managed to cast Etali turn 3 and won turn 5 before anyone of us could do anything. He had such great fun with my deck hitting crazy stuff like Panharmonicon and Strionic Resonator. He also hit the Avacyn from the enemy Kaalia it was hilarious.
Hey, I played you in round 2. You got my Dihada and the T&K whiffed naus. It was a fun first tournament. I ended 2-3, hope I can put up more of a fight next time.
Twinflame also goes infinite with dockside and eternal witness with high enough count. The more I play it the more I like it. Also I am trying to hit Etali while having Displacer Kitten out, in Temur. Tons of fun I tell you :D
I played against the Tevesh Kraum pilot you played in R5, super cool dude! They messed something up big time in round 4 and he ended up playing in the last pod of 0-3s and he was like 1-1-1 it was definitely a weird pairing system throughout the day. Before they repaired round 5 I was in a pod with a bunch of 5s and 6s and Jorman who was already on 12… definitely an interesting way they run things but 🤷🏻♂️
If you go with conquerors flail instead of dosan, then it makes more sense to maybe add the godo and helm there just as a way to fetch for the flail sometimes
I love etali as a casual deck, and have looked at it as a CEDH deck. I know you mentioned some stax prices that stop this deck, but things like rule of law effects just stop this deck but not very many decks run those effects.
So with the dockside extortionist, jeweled lotus and mana crypt banned, what'd you replace them with in this deck? I just managed to get mine mostly together and then the ban hit.
Did you consider Lantern of Insight to help ensure better times to cast Etali? (1) Artifact Each player plays with the top card of his or her library revealed. (tap) Sacrifice Lantern of Insight: Target player shuffles his or her library
Portland, OR has a great Saturday monthly tournament at Guardian Games and Retro Shark Games- elim players get draw points and no extra turns . 😊 new players welcome
Hi Ian, For rionya, all tokens etb at the same time then state based action would happen and you'd have to sac down to 1 etali before all the etbs happen or am I misunderstanding something? Thank you for all the content and learning.
Hey Ian! Thanks for the vid. I myself have a close to cEDH etali deck. However I cannot afford (yet) the big ramp artifacts like the moxes or mana crypt. Since Etali isn't necessarily the most consistent deck, since it depends of what you get from your and your enemies top, I was wondering If you could give some more budget (just not 80 euro please, i have had enough with the one ring and jeweled lotus) alternatives to control or beat better turbo decks (I really struggle to beat a very strong korvold deck in my playgroup)
I’d suggest putting in ramp to in place of those mana rocks. Use elves and 2 mana mana rocks, rituals. Basalt monolith can kinda be used in place of grim. You won’t be as fast but itlll still get Etali out faster then he’s suppose to be.
I have a question. Have you tried Aetherflux in this deck and if so, what did you think? I run it in my deck and it’s one me the game just as much as food chain. Cast Etali, then flip into a Aetherflux and whatever else you flipped from your opponent’s and you’re already up +12 life
reminder that prowl doesn't get around commander tax (not entirely, you still get taxed over the 2r cost, which is less than paying 7rr for sure) this also makes it so you can't go infinite with velociraptors + food chain edit: nevermind it is mentioned around 5:22
I’m curious if you think urabrask is a solid storm cedh deck. Seems very fast and seems to dominate the table when I play with it and can even be pretty far fast
It’s card draw. It can also pressure life totals as well. Make a hamster. Make it a 4/4. Attack or leave for blocker. Then next turn throw it for damage and draw 4. Or make it a 7/7
Just a small detail, but doesn't Pyrokinesis only hit creatures, meaning that infinite mana/Sabretooth/E-Witness does *not* turn into a clean with with Pyro?
@@The_Metalcrafter Roughly 9:41 (after naming Lightning Bolt) "well, there's a number of other substitutes like Pyrokinesis or Delayed-Blast Fireball that also fit in that slot as well..."
My point not being to overly nitpick, but to a) see if I am missing something or b) help make sure someone doesn't pick up the deck and lose a tournament game not realizing that Pyrokinesis can't hit players (I have not done this in a tournament, but within the past 6 months or so had a rude awakening play where I wanted to hit a player with Pyrokinesis and it was pointed out to me that it doesn't work that way). So I mean this with all humility and as someone who has been burned (ha!) by this myself.
I had OPP win on turn 2 against me because I didn’t counter the food chain. He wasn’t going to have any more mana .. but then he evoked fury .. exiling squee .. used food chain and boom. Lesson learned.

Red elemental blast and pyro blast are better hits off of etali because you can destroy blue permanents. I wouldn't run guttural response or tibalt's trickery because you can't cast them off of etali
I know it's a lot more effort, but you might want to put the cards on screen that you're talking about. A lot of newer players will not be able to follow
I'm a simple guy. I see a big angry dinosaur that is cedh viable, I play it. Problem is I always go back and forth with Pantlaza and Etali.
lol me too. cant decide
Same here! I can't decide what is better?!
I’m using Etali in a sans-blue and it’s WILD
Hot damn. The goated consistency AND deck variance continues.

I’ve been on Jetmir “the cat in the stax” for a while, but a friend recommended me this deck. You’ve just convinced me to try it out, so, thanx Ian!

Storm isn’t really a viable strategy in cedh just full stop- the closest it’s ever really come is Krark sakashima
Do they do this tournament every year at this time at the same place?
This might be a dumb question, but why is Minsc and Boo in the list? I feel like I'm missing something...
It’s card draw. It can also pressure life totals as well. Make a hamster. Make it a 4/4. Attack or leave for blocker. Then next turn throw it for damage and draw 4. Or make it a 7/7
What exactly is the reason for minsc and boo? I feel like its quite alot of mana and i guess its very slow too?
It’s a draw engine. Gruul has a hard time drawing cards and Minsc and boo is really good for that. He also pressures life totals.
I recently opened a "passionate archeologist background" do you think its any good in this Deck?
Idk if it would make the final cut but it could be interesting to test
Just a small detail, but doesn't Pyrokinesis only hit creatures, meaning that infinite mana/Sabretooth/E-Witness does *not* turn into a clean with with Pyro?

people will put cards they are considering in the sideboard
Edh is a best of 1 so no need for a sideboard. Stickers and companions may be used in games so they can be considered in your sideboard (in some way)
So glad i picked this dumb dino up when it was $5. You lunatics be killing this secondary market 😂😂
damn star city fumbled this harder than my last order with them
are you sure about prowl getting around commander tax? It´s still a cast
It does not
I was saying that because it reduces the cost to 3 you can get around having to cast Etali for 9 or more. I wasn't claiming that it ignores tax
I'm sorry extra turns? Please explain

Red elemental blast and pyro blast are better hits off of etali because you can destroy blue permanents. I wouldn't run guttural response or tibalt's trickery because you can't cast them off of etali
