Callum having the same VA as Sokka from ATLA is just perfect. And don't worry, I'm know Rayla's "Moonshadow" accent will take some getting used to, but I'm sure Rayla as a character will grow on you. I'm so glad you're reacting to this. Apart from Elijah, there's a severe lack of reactors checking out this amazing series, and it deserves so much love.

Also, something to note is that Primal spells are cast in Latin, but dark magic spells are cast backwards.

Little bit of trivia here: the elves have a base 8 counting system instead of base 10 counting system.

The end credit art is different each episode. Some of the art foreshadows future episodes. I recommend taking a look at all of them! Also, remind Elijah to look at the end credit art if she doesn't already
So the thing is, Paula Burrows, the VA for Rayla actually is Scottish. Apparently she lost her accent when she was growing up in Canada, but she can still speak with it. The problem is that the show doesn't seem to know what it wants her accent to actually be for the first couple episodes, so she kind of does it differently at first before eventually just settling in with her (formerly) natural accent, at which point it starts sounding much better.
Yeah, the quite literal no true Scotsmaning of her accent is kinda gross and needs to stop
That her born-and-raised Scottish mother is happy that she finally gets to "talk[] properly" is good enough for me.

To give each of the Elves their own unique flavour, each culture has it's own accents to set them apart.
Moonshadow Elves have a mix of Scottish and English accents.
Sunfire Elves have French-Nigerian accents.
Skywing Elves have English accents.
Earthbloods have kiwi New Zealand accents.
Tidebound Elves have a mix of Transatlantic and of course pirate accents.
And Startouch Elves have... well you'll see.

Reyla's accent is actually explained later on where it turns out all of the Moon Shadow Elves are actually leprechauns in disguise and they had short notice to find a voice coach.
Also, will say there are a few things here that you noticed that I (or any reactors I've seen for this) didn't on my first go round. I won't say which!

I suspect that the Moonshadow Elves don't view Rayla as a _kid._ She's like 14 or 15, sure, but this might be a society that marks the end of childhood much earlier -- a "you're old enough to swing a sword; you're old enough to _use_ it" type of mentality. As for why they brought someone so inexperienced on such an important mission... well, we later learn that Rayla is a magically-created clone specifically engineered to be a super-assassin - though it didn't work out as well as they hoped.

Strangely, Callum and Sokka don’t get along during the crossover after that.
You might recognise the voice of Callum. The same voice actor voices Sokka from Avatar. In fact this series is either written or partly written by the guys who conceived of the Avatar series.

I wouldn't tend to fully categorise the dragon prince as a kids show. I think it's appropriate for kids (of a certain age) but I'm not sure it feels like a show specifically for kids
Yeah, one thing I've noticed is that everyone is almost immediately on the side of the elves and the dragons with the opening monologue, because that's how it's set up.
Except...they literally banished and exiled an entire race/species because of what a few people were doing. They're not exactly heroes in this scenario.

This whole show feels like a DnD campaign and it fucking awesome.
You might already know this, but if you like shows that feel like DnD, may I recommed The Legend of Vox Machina? It's a retelling of an actual DnD campaign. The vibe is very much more adult than TDP, but it's also a very, very good show.

Quite possibly my favourite show of all time, if not it's certainly up there. I basically grew up with this series and remained loyal throughout the long hiatus and season 4. Callum is one of my favourite characters ever, Viren one of my favourite villains ever. The story, the politics and philosophy are all so well done. I absolutely adore the magic system, runic magic systems are so underrated in my opinion and the concept of an arcanum was a big inspiration for some of the systems I went on to write. You will not be disappointed
Can’t wait til we get to the most powerful magic item of all the glowing hay.

Dragon Prince is a show that I absolutely love when it's good and I absolutely cannot stand when it's not. Unfortunately it's been trending in the latter direction for me recently, but with two seasons left I have some hope they can pull things together.

So the book Claudia is reading is "Love Amongst the Dragons" this is one of several "Avatar: The Last Airbender" references in this show. (Zuko mentions that the Ember Island Players used to "butcher 'Love Amongst the Dragons' every year")
Dragon Prince and ALTA have the same creators, and Callum is the same VA as Sokka. In an ironic twist, the sketches during the credits are done by Callum who is supposed to be a very talented artist, while Sokka was famously bad at drawing.

17:38 I'm glad you're watching the end credits, and you should because we have some foreshadowing right in the first episode! You haven't seen this elf before, but there's a hint about who he might be 😉 the leader of the assassins, Runaan, used a pendant to disguise them as trees, the same pendant we see this elf is crafting here.
Also, a nice callback to the "ceremonial armour" Callum put on, and here we see him and his brother probably posing for a portrait or something.
And the last thing, one of the sketches was a mirror, the mirror Viren (dark mage) was staring at in the beginning of the episode. Could this mirror be important?🤔
The best scene in the series is when Callum is greeted by a monk and is totally startled and asks "have we met, your voice sounds familiar", because the monk is voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen

The black and green bird plays a very important part of the whole series. Plus the end credit artwork is canon.

The conflict over which sources of magic to use will be resolved when the characters discover that they can power their magic by eating large quantities of hamentaschen jelly tarts.
One of the big things is that Callum drinks cactus juice, It was a form of dark magic that made him stronger!
My favorite part is when Callum and Thunder have a Disney's Hercules moment where Thunder's statue comes to life and announces Callum as his son
