Excellent practice Tim! I recently discovered the benefit of warming up in this way while trying to draw bamboo with my Chinese brushes. I did around 3 or 4 pages of practice before going to my watercolor paper and I experienced the “magic” your talking about here. My final piece came out so much better. You could probably epoxy any ink bottle to a heavy plate like a brick. You won't spill it.
Does anyone know what brand of brush he was using here? I can't seem to find it online (there are A LOT of chinese brushes on the internet).
Try your local China town, they might have an art store for calligraphy and watercolour. That's what I did to first see what I was gonna buy
