#122 1983 fxrt 80ci shovelhead topend rebuild gone wild or wrong fxr harley by tatro machine
1983 FXRT shovelhead new evo style cam, tappets, pushrods, and new pistons. The cylinders were bored .010 over. Heads were machined to new spec and kibblewhite valves and valve guides installed. Rocker boxes rebuilt with new bushing and honed and for perfect fit. Engine and primary oil lines separated to run clean oil through motor. Upon inspection of bottom end while the top end was off for repair more damage was found. This led to new bushings, bearings, Jims crank pin and Jims nuts. The crank was then balanced and trued.

Look forward to more videos on the valve train adaptions! "Engine and primary oil lines separated to run clean oil through motor." How is this done without running a wet primary? Going on a 3k mile round trip, on my 69 flh with sidecar, and this intrigued me. Thank you!
I am also concerned with running my 21 tooth primary sprocket and a 23 tooth trans sprocket. I am going to try to stay on two lane blacktop.

If the oil routing for the engine has the primary in the circuit (Like a lot of Harleys do) the you get contamination from the clutch fibers in your engine oil. By isolating the primary from the engine oil circuit, your engine oil stays much cleaner. The primary can still have oil in it, it's just isolated and the oil stays in the primary instead of being pumped through. Just means that you have to make sure the primary is sealed to avoid leaks but vented to avoid overpressure, plus having to change oil in the primary once in a while.
