Unclogging kitchen sink

  • So we've been living in this house about 10 years now and it seems like every three or four years this kitchen sink gets clogged. We don't pour any grease/oil down the drain or anything like that but I'm guessing from Grease/oil that's on plates, small food particles and stuff like that eventually builds up and causes this issue. Maybe there's something I can pour down the drain every so often to keep this from happening but since I don't do that I have to go and do it the hard way. BUT! I rather do it this way then renting a tool or pay a plumber if I don't have to go that route.
The issue/Fix: the sink would drain very slowly, once all the water drained out the sink, I removed the p trap to make sure it wasn't the problem (it wasn't). So I knew I would need to use the snake to unclogged the pipe. The clog was about 40 feet in the pipe (guessing based on how much of the snake went into the sink). I had to repeat cleaning off the tip of the snake about 10 times before it came back out clean. So after that I connected everything back together and the water drained like normal again.
