Awesome video...I really like your method of teaching and demonstrating the various features of the radios. I have learned a LOT about my radios from watching your tutorials. I have both the IC-7100 and IC-7300 with plans on acquiring an IC-705 in the future, so your videos are super helpful for me! Thank you very much for your efforts. Cheers and 73!
I want to thank you for this, and for all your 7300 A-Z videos. I just picked up my new 7300 from HRO on Saturday and if it hadn't been for your videos some of the options of the radio would have been more confusing. The basic manual doesn't do a very good job at explaining all the steps to add frequencies to memory, and other things, but your videos helped make that crystal clear. 73 DE KI6JPE
The Overflow light indicated now moves from the top of the display over to the left hand side of the display under the TX light with the new firmware update
Thank you for the explanations. My favorite new feature is the setting presets. It is very convinient. BEfore this, I use simple shell scripts to configure rig's settings accordingly. Looking forward your next video, which may contains "Multi-function dial" new features.. Thank you, 73.
Tom, When describing the PRESET features, you added the third Preset called Mixer by using the "Write" on page 8. So what is the function of the "Save to the Preset Memory" button which is directly under the "Edit the Preset Memory" ? Your videos are wonderful and vital to my understanding! Ron, K5RJL
Hi Ron. thank you for the kind words. The "Save to the preset memory" takes you to the screens that let you pick which parameters the preset will modify. So, for example, if you want a preset that sets your Mode to LSB and sets your Filter to FIL2, but doesn't change any other settings, you can leave the Mode and Filter boxes checked. Then uncheck everything else. Then at the end of the list on the 8th page is the option that actually saves the preset.
Hello Tom, I have not updated my firmware yet, but have a question about assigning the new presets. Using the up-down arrow buttons, can those now be changed from memory channels to changing the band? One of the features that I miss on this radio is not having a band button to simply press and change what band you're operating in. Thank you so much, and I sure appreciate all of your work and effort in creating these videos.
Hi Doc. Unfortunately, the new firmware does not allow you to customize the up and down arrow buttons on the radio to change bands. You can however customize the Up and Dn buttons on the microphone to change bands. So that’s a small step in your direction. Thanks for the kind words. 73, Tom
Thank you Tom for all the help you provided. Although, I do have a big question. I followed the instructions and everything worked smoothly, BUT. When I create a new preset, (let's say a preset called Winlink), made the necessary changes, tested it and it worked like a charm and lastly I saved it in the position No 3. Then I had to turn off the transceiver. When I turned it back on, the new preset had disappeared. I tried again and for the second time the preset is deleted after the shut down. Any thoughts? P.S. #1 Tried again for the third time today and it worked! Don't know what was wrong the first two tries. I am sure I pressed the "Write" button and then "Yes". P.S. #2 A few days later, my "new" Preset vanished again. So, back to the original question. What can cause the deletion of a new Preset? Also, any changes I have made for the connectivity to the Ham Radio Deluxe (like the Baud Rate), were restored to their original default values! Any feedback is welcome
Does anyone know if there is a way to change programming of the Multi Function knob from 1 kHz change per click to say, 5 or 10 kHz? It's faster to tune the knob for only 1 kHz, I'd prefer 5, as I can do on my TS-950SDX.
Hi. Yes. Press and hold the 1khz digit on the frequency display and the tuning step menu will come up. Once you pick the new tuning step, the multi-function knob will then tune in that increment. The display will still show “kHz”
Hi. This is a good question and a valid concern. The chances of bricking your radio (Despite the dire Icom warnings on the screen) are very low. The radio checks the firmware for validity on the SD card before it starts the load. So, this guards against a corrupt file. The largest risk would be if you remove power from the radio during the update. So, if you really want to be safe, you could power the rig from a well charged 12V battery during the update to avoid the risk of a power failure. All in all, it’s pretty safe, quick and simple.

Tom, GREAT explanation of the upgrade. Now along with my IC-7610, I will keep my 7300 just for digital modes. 73, KK6YO
Tom,
Once again, you've produced easy to follow and helpful videos!
Thank you!
Thanks for your time on the videos. I did the update last weekend but did not have time to look at it yet. Now I know what to look for.
Love the radio and now the upgrade for digital use is nice to have.

Thank you, Sir.
THe latest updaes are very interesting. I hope Icom supports and updates the rig as long as possible. .

Very cool man. I haven't installed firmware yet but nice and thanks for sharing. KN4JDG 73!
Cool! You took my suggestion about using a pen/pencil eraser!
As always, nice job I am looking forward to using presets for different addon programs. 73 and thank you. w1icu

When you unload a Preset, what changes? Will settings go back to manually selected options?
Never mind, you answered it at 13:30.

I do FT8 and my settings arent changed for voice or CW so I don;t see any need for the settings feature....
