I have COPD. Recent CT shows lung fibrosis. I also have severe sleep apnea and been on CPAP for 15 years. I recently had an updated Sleep Study done and it showed I have 82 episodes of apnea/hypoxia per hour. My pressure on my CPAP was increased from 5 all the way up to 11. For the first few months, I felt this pressure was going to blow my lungs out and was painful but I continued. I am posting because I wonder how many people out there have past due Sleep Studies and not know how bad their lungs really are. Enjoyed your videos.

I've learnt so much from you over the last couple of months. Not only the 'how to' for various exercises but the 'why' we are asked to do things and the reason they are effective.
Honestly, I'm no longer virtually housebound, extremely despondent or feeling isolated. I'm able to do more, even walking, climbing stairs without needing to stop as often and I feel more confident about managiñg my COPD and far less anxious about getting out of breath. I understand more when I can or should use my rescue inhaler.
My family are amazed as I'm willing AND able to participate in more things now. I'm even telling them not to worry when my work of breathing is elevated as I have been reassured through listening to you that its a good thing and helps improve my lung function. (It really does!) Instead of sitting down and giving up quickly I hear your voice inside my mind reminding us to do the talk test to accurately guage where we're at and also that even athletes get out of breath so to me its a good sign that we're working.
My quality of life (and hopefully my quantity too) has impoved dramatically through putting into practice what you have taught us. I can't thank you enough.

Are there any studies that have looked at aqua therapy for pulmonary muscle training? Standing in water up to the chin would place external pressure around the thorax which would need to be overcome by muscles during inspiration.

Yes we teach that at HRN. But it only equates to about 4 pounds of muscle growth when you need around 12 so then the person would actually have to take a snorkel with an extra long tube to go down further to get an increase in pressure so at sometimes it’s not practical depending on the disease process itself but yes, it’s a great way to increase respiratory muscle strengthening.
