Hello my friend, I had 12 years to connect my homemade Linear amp 2x813 600W........ and I forgot the output of Icom 706 MKIIG . your article explained it all in a simple way and thank you very much MAIK from Greece..
An excellent demonstration of why it is important to make your own systematic and thorough examinations instead of making assumptions or taking someone else's word for where the problem is! Users tend to blame the user interface for being faulty (in this case: the radio doesn't switch the PA) because it is how/where they notice there is a problem in the first place. Good show!
Hi Peter, good video. It will help new people to read and understand a schematic even if no problem was found, and also troubleshoot. As they say, “never pass up an opportunity to learn”. Thanks. 73
Great video for the young players who want to learn trouble shooting. Thanks for taking time to do this Sir. Always an interesting discussion have a good day Sir 😊
Peter. I recently bought an IC7300 and I built an interface for the acc port. Those bloody 13 pin din plugs are a nightmare. My old linear has 28v on the ptt line, I did have an opto coupler on it but I just didn't trust it. So I built a new footswitch wit dual switches, one for the amp and one for the radio. Better safe to know they are completely separate. It seems the keying relay in the OMs amp has a problem. 73 Peter George
nice video peter hope he sorted his amp problem out...i just done something simerla made a lead for my icom703+ in car to ptt my transverter. it seems all icoms use the same set up.. cheers paul
hello Peter, im using one circuity like that in my IC-7300 to switching my amp SB-200 from heathkit ... im using a PIN TO GROUND WHEN KEY and a constant 13.8v ... when im press ptt the small relay turn on and gime me a independent 2 pins of relay to key my amp ... big 73 de PY7DJ - NETO
Looks like the circuit is working as designed to me Peter. Could have a bad connection in the external amplifier or missing voltage. Your troubleshooting was just as I would had done it. Good job as always my friend. BTW, is that external devices incased in epoxy? Thanks Peter.
Hi Buddy, yes I agree the cirguit is working as designed... Yeah that was standard trouble shouting method :^) I'm not sure but it is a kind of epoxy.. Thanks for stopping by. Take care my friend 73
To my interest knowing what those back Phil more plug . Pin-out are .. I’m planing to use that external plug for other uses in mind one of them is adding a r-beep . 73
Is the relay switching between an isolated open/closed circuit or is it infact switching the radio ground connection out to the output centre pin which is what the amplifier would need to see? It may be missing its ground out connection even though the relay appears to switch normally Karl
Another interesting video Peter. :-) At the end of the video, I am wondering why the owner of the IC-7000 (who must be a ham) could not perform simple tests like you have done with a multimeter to determine the radio (and relay box) was fine.
You also don't generally want the relay in the amp switching while there is RF coming from the radio. It isn't good for the amp relay to hot switch, and it isn't good for the output of the radio to go briefly open circuit while the contacts change. The send output (PTT) is normally sequenced so that it triggers a split second before the radio starts outputting RF. This gives the amp relay time to energize before RF is applied.
Hi i have a question. I have an icom ic7000 Its currently only set to 25% rf power. And when I try to transmit on certain frequencies,it cut out power wise then restarts. In fm 14mhz and up and seems to randomly do it with pretty much all modes . Is this a known fault or am im doing something retarded.

@@TRXLab The relay is the power supply with 7 volts or you insert transistors ,
I really appreciate you taking time to explain the schematic. It is very helpful.
Thanks for watching 73

Hi Tom, yes that is right I fully agree. Thanks for watching 73

Hi Larry, yeah you are right. Thanks for stopping by 73

Thank you wade.. 73
Sometimes these things happen :^) Thumbs up as always Peter!
Hi Paul, yes in an entire station set-up you can lose the overview...Thanks for stopping by my friend. 73
Peter it´s always enjoyable to watch your videos.
73
Thank you Victor 73
Hey Peter: Nice explanation but even you can't fix non existent faults. Nice to see you get an easy one for a change.
Hi Andy, LOL yes that is right...Thanks for watching 73

Hey sound like a great job, George. Yes better to be safe! Yeah the problem was in the OM's amp... 73
Nice instructional video. So, coming up next is a video with the linear PA repair! If the customer gives it for repair of course. 73.
Thank you Kostas, well yes we will see what the owner want me to do.. 73
nice video peter

Thanks for stepping in Paul! 73
Interesting video even though all was OK with the equipment. Thanks for making it Robert.
Thanks for feed-back Robert. 73
Thank you for another great video.. Peter your a great tech !!
Thanks for the kind words Dennis!! All the best 73

Hi Karl, the radio is switching to ground so it should work without problem. Thanks for watching 73
Nice video Peter big thumbs up
Thanks Allan 73
Great video indeed, Peter! Thank you as always!

Hi Michael, well I don't know...Thanks for stepping by 73
Hi Peter nice video, you haven't had any experience of external monitors on IC 7000 keep going off have you?? Fred g4vvq in UK
Hi Fred, well we have some IC7000 running with external monitor but never heard about a problem....Thanks for watching 73
Thanks for your video Peter, 73s de IW0HEX Pasquale
Thanks for watching ! 73
Nice little video, even if nothing to do. So next week we gonna see a PA on your desk ;) ?
Thank you Thomas, yeah we will see what the owner wants me to do... 73
Great video.
Thank you Claudio 73
Hi Peter,
Well, guess you can't win them all with nothing to repair. :-)
Still a good video.

LOL yeah that true Thanks for stopping by Donald. 73
That IC-7000 has had a rough life.
The most linear's are triggered by the rf signal, why use a external output to switch?
You also don't generally want the relay in the amp switching while there is RF coming from the radio. It isn't good for the amp relay to hot switch, and it isn't good for the output of the radio to go briefly open circuit while the contacts change. kno's his stuff this guy ..great vid
Thank you Drew! 73

A simple one for a change! 73.
so the owner dont know how to use a multimeter i assume if you have to test it.
LOL, well I don't know..Thanks for stopping by George 73

Problem potentially could be anywhere..
Hard one to follow Peter could not figure what you were getting at or talking about. Anyways you win some and lose some, better luck next time. Cheers
Hi Tom, where did you get lost? It is all about keying an external power amplifier.. Thanks for comment Cheers
I thouth for some time what is amplifire :D then figure out its amplifier xd
Oh yes thanks for the hint 73
