    Good video. I recently received my 60 Deg Jenny V-Bit and can't wait to try it out. Wood putty technique works quite well. Have been using a different method lately that works well too: To paint a V-Carve path I set my start depth slightly lower than the top surface. Carve then seal afterword’s. Sloppy paint as well then do a pocket clearance over the painted V-Carve path to the start depth of the carve. Same results but requires an extra toolpath.

    Good demonstration Rob, thanks for taking the time to do it for everyone!

    Awesome video. I ordered a 90 degree GrooVee Jenny earlier today with the hopes that the down-cut will leave the top edge of text. Your vid confirmed that. Also love the idea of using wood putty. I can't stand seeing paint bleed or sloppy edges on projects. Thanks Sir!

    I use my 60 and 90° Jenny down cut bits regularly. Now I need to try your wood putty trick. If I can did it 🤔
    Also what is the difference between carve and Engraving when you make the amazing detailed pieces?

      My definition: When vcarve is selected as the toolpath, then I call call it vcarve - when I do a profile toolpath and set to cut on the line/vector, then I call it engraving. On that project, the building and rays/lines are engraving.

    Great video! What feeds/speeds did you run this bit at?

    • @sidewinderdrums
      @sidewinderdrums  11 місяців тому +1

      I normally start v-carve toolpaths at 75ipm, and then sometimes speed it up to 100
      (ish) at the machine.

    Great pieces Rob and thanks for the vid! Could you clarify how you did the letters with the black background (i.e. CASA, GRANDE and ARIZONA). I think you mentioned you put the wood putty on the entire piece and then you "skimmed" a little bit for those parts--what bit did you use to "skim" for that flat surface? I then assumed that you painted those skimmed parts with the black paint and then engraved the letters. Sound about right? Thanks

      yes - that is pretty much the process. Here is a more in-depth video on the process.

    Nice, do you use the same settings for the down cut bits as you do for regular upcut bits.

    • @sidewinderdrums
      @sidewinderdrums  Рік тому +1

      Yes. Exact same settings. I should probably have 2 settings since one is single flute, and the down-shear is 2 flute.

    Good video Rob. Is that 30° truly a down shear - sounds like it is. I will want to try it out if it is. Do you have any links or affiliate links for this.

      Yes - he does make down-shear bits. Cody lives in my area, and I stopped by his shop to meet him in person a while back. He is a good guy, and specializes in bits for the hobby community. The 30' bit I used is not available yet (soon), but he does already have a 90' and 60' down-shear.

      @@sidewinderdrums I just went to his website and signed up for notify me when available. I asked for your insight because I had another bit manufacturer tell me he purchased one of the Cody bits advertised as down shear and the geometry was the same as his bits - indicating it wasn't really a down shear. This person of course had skin in the game so I consider his feedback biased - whereas I know from working with you in the past you are a straight shooter. So thought I would ask your thoughts about if they were true down shear geometry.

    What grit are you running on the sander?

    • @sidewinderdrums
      @sidewinderdrums  9 місяців тому

      to sand off the filler, I use 180, and then work up to 320 before applying any finish.
