Excellent machine. Kenmore is a brand of Sears, and on all of Sears' appliances, there is a three digit code in the model number. That one's is 116.xxx which means that it was manufactured by Panasonic. There are Sears OEM lists on the Internet for all who are curious. Those direct drive machines are excellent deep cleaners as well as reliable in the same league as many higher end clean air uprights. You'll notice that the main motor sounds like a Dyson's, which is because Panasonic manufactures the motors for most Dysons. The direct drive brush works as a drill does, having a planetary gear set to slow the speed of the brush roller. This produces a brush that agitates well, but doesn't destroy, as many brushes driven from the main motor do. Likewise, the planetary gear set increases the torque of the brush a good bit, so it would have enough torque to drive a nail through the upper brush housing.

I got one of those at Goodwill for maybe $20 back when they were still being sold as one of the top machines by Kenmore. I got mine in 2007 or 2008. Had most of the on board tools none of the extras and was in good shape just had to cut lots of long hair of the brushroll and it was a lot too. It was as thick as the brushes are long. I planned to flip it but then we moved and got a cat and I loved the clean air for car litter. It became a fast favorite. Use the Hepa bags to keep the bag chamber and motor clean.

If I recall correctly my old local Sears had one on display and I actually got a chance to test it in-stores but the it certainly didn't sound healthy lmao. This was probably 2017 or possible earlier when I saw it.

I think these were about 2005-2010 maybe 2011, when the Intuitions came out, these were the 2nd gen Progressive models.

2006-2009. This blue version with the older Kenmore logo, but they revamped these again in a red color. In my experience of owning both, the 1st generation is just better
