Wow thanks for this, The manual it comes with is shockingly bad & this is hands down the best video on this out there, cheers! Do most people opt for leaving it in the auto setting with timed setting or is the off- then manual setting when need common/ok to use? I ask as my engineer who put our new boiler in only bothered showing us the off-manual options.
Charlie Hi Charlie, thanks for the comments, much appreciated. As per leaving in auto or manual, the best way is to work for your own needs. Personally this time of year I set to manual and bring on as and when I feel I need it as some days need and some days don’t, the further we get into autumn and much colder weather I will set to auto but try reduce the timed events until the really cold weather when sometimes it can be on all day due to freezing conditions outside. Some people would sooner the convenience of switching to auto now and forgetting about. What ever suits your needs is the only real answer.
Hope this helps

Very useful. I get many requests to remove complex stat/programmers, especially by landlords, as people do not understand them. Except for their latest models, Salus and Horstmann are awful to figure out. Terrible products. The landlords are fed up with requests from tenants on how to use them, and of course the landlord does not know.
The regs say the stats/programmers must be Boiler Plus compliant, so timers are needed. Many people in flats, especially rented flats, do not use the timers, they just want to turn the heating on and off simply when they wake up and go out. And set the temperature simply.
This range of Boiler Plus compliant stat/timers gives that - a stat with an on-off switch.
Because of people using the on-off, I advise to install a kickspace heater with a switch over the worktop, in the kitchen, as these warm up the room quickly. So they can get up in mid winter, switch on the heating and get instant heat from a kickspace as they make breakfast. A big hit.
this video was so much better than the manual...thank you

Thanks for this great video. Is there a some secret or advanced settings in this thermostat? The problem i am having is, lets say i turn Manual mode and set the temp to 19 degrees. Now the heating wont kick in until it drops to 18 degrees and wont stop untill it reaches 20! Which is insane and drives me mad. Is there some setting that can be changed? Thank you
That's exactly as it works. To get an average temp maintained of 19 the stat will drop to 18 heat to 20 the average then the 19 you set. If you drop it to 18 it will swing between 17&19 to get the average temp and so on. Hope this helps
Useful video, thanks.
I needed read the comments below to understand the switch between 4 event and 6 event set-up.
Unfortunately, no sign of how to do this basic function change on the ESi website.

It is hidden somewhere in the installer instructions and not in the user iinstrcuctions which is a bit of an oversight for sure. Glad you found it in the comments and I will pop up a short video soon, as I realise this is a repeated comment/question

A very good presentation - excellent help thanks. A quick question. Owing to the current gas prices, we only want events 1 & 2, on/off in the morning. What is the best way to disable further events during the day? Would be very grateful for a response.
Just set all the other events to your off temp, doing so it will ignore them
@@theheatingpro Thanks Heating Pro - I did manage to figure it out shortly after my query to you. What was not clear at the time was setting the off temp to some quite low value like 10 degrees. Thought it through and now we are fine. Best wishes.

Hi thanks so much for this. Can you tell me how to just put hot water on but not heating? For in the summer. Thanks. Ellen x
Hi,
Typically you can do this via the boiler and set to hot water only usually a tap symbol if you have a combi boiler. It means regardless of what your heating stat is calling for the boiler will only accept hot water calls
I have a combi but can't find tap symbol and water isn't hot today

I hope this helps a little for the many posting comments regards the UNBOIL message.
This is the response from ESI -
The UNBOIL message which appears in place of the date on your thermostat is an OpenTherm notification. It is telling you that your boiler will not need to heat the return water any further at the moment as it is already satisfied. Typically, thermostats use electrical voltage to talk to boilers to say either ON or OFF, however OpenTherm works by using a language (called OpenTherm) that works as a load compensator which will regulate your heating by modulating the boiler at specific points to keep your heating at your target temperature far more accurately. The UNBOIL message will not interfere with any functions on your room thermostat and it is normal to see this. If your thermostat was not wired in using the OpenTherm terminals, then it is in effect talking to itself, but it will still not have any negative influence on the operation of your thermostat.
This is the response I have received from ESI regards this and I have asked for further info on how to resolve this (a possible factory reset). I will hopefully update you soon as to their reply, as I dont believe there will be many that are wired opentherm and that it is a glitch for it to happen on a standardly wired stat.
Most modern boilers will have the ability to be wired OpenTherm but will very likely be wired to the standard switched live.

FABTASTIC VIDEO! Love it. Thank you. I can’t see the follow up videos on the other features of this (as you said you would do in the video). If you could do them that would be great. But brilliant nonetheless. Thank you
Thank you for this instructive video - your ESRT4RF+ shows P1 to P6 ours has just P1 to P4. The use instruction states on page 9 the Optimum Start [and stop] whereby the thermostat optimizes when to start to reach a pre programmed temp. at a given time. Could you demonstrate how that can be "activated" or set ?
I have a list of videos to do from peoples comments so i will add this and get it done as soon as I can. Hit the Bell symbol on my channel and it will notify you when I load up a video. i will get this up as quick as I can
Hello. We have just had this installed. We want our heating to come on 7 days a week at 6am at 21 degrees and go off at 10.30pm at 17 degrees. I believe your video said I have to select the 24 hour option to make it the same each day? Our installer said we would need to select 7 days if we wanted it the same for 7 days which is different to your advice. I’m not sure what to do with P3 & P4 and P5 & P6 as we only need the 2 temperatures. Are you able to advise please?
Hi,
Not quite, 7 days setting gives you the ability to set each day individually for those with non standard work patterns. ie work from home on a Thursday you can set that day up differently.
Ok so you have 6 settings. Set up 1 at 6am for 21 degrees, 2,3,4&5 at any time between 6am and 10:30pm all at 21 degrees then set up 6 at 10:30 pm at 15 degrees. That way is will see as you have a demand all day at 21 degrees and ulimately only adjust the temp down at 10:30pm as you want.
Hope this helps

Do you have to use all 6 settings (P1 P2 etc) or can you just use 2 or 3 ? Thanks
Hello,
You can use as many as you like, if yo dont want a setting just choose the same temp as the previous off temp it will then ignore the chagne of temp. So P1 0630 20 degrees - P2 0830 15 Degrees - P3 1630 20 degrees - P4 2200 15 degrees. Then P5 2215 15 degrees, P6 2230 15 degrees. If set along these lines as you can see iit will ignore the last two as the temp doesnt change from P4.
If you wanted heating on more perm then set P1,P2,P3,P4,P5 to 20 degrees and P6 to 15 degrees and it will give you heat all da.
Hope this makes it clearer

Thank you for this video very helpful explanation 👍🏾
How do i just knock the heating on and off when i want?
Does this operate hot tap water . Can you distinguish setting for heating and hot water barrel for the tap? Or is this only for room temperatures.
Only the heating. If you are a combi boiler hot water is as you turn on the tap. if you have a cylinder then you will have another control for the hot water
Is there a certain temperature or what is the best and most efficient temperature I need to set my boilers hot water and radiators to?? At the moment I have both my water and heating temperature up to the max is that a good idea?? Thanks again for taking the time making this very helpful vid
Hi Rassell,
Hot water - set to temp you want to come out of the tap and no more
Most boilers will output around 65 degrees which is more than you would typically want. The lower you are happy with the setting the cheaper on gas. No point heating hot water to a temp too high then mixing in cold to cool it down, you paying for the privilege.
Heating - Some boilers have a E setting on them which is usually the best place to set without me seeing it first hand. A lower temp is ok as long as it meets your demand and ultimately gets the house up to temp. Reduce it slightly and take a look at your desired temp at the stat. Try reducing it by 0.5 degrees at a time over the period of a couple of weeks. This way you do not notice a slight reduction in temperature and become acclimatised. Again over a longer period will improve you effiency and save on those gas bills.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions

Hi Phil,
Sorry for the late response been a busy weekend.
The stat does indeed give you the ability of TPI/Delayed/Optimum Start. It also has an Optimum Stop feature. Based on your question I will do a further video to show how this is done but to help out here and now please see the comments below

@@theheatingpro thanks that would be great 👍
Delayed Start - can delay the heating coming on by up to 45 minutes depending on how warm the room is when the heating is due to come on
1. Switch slider to off, press and hold both A and H buttons, then press the next>> button to enter the tech settings. Then release all buttons. Use the +&- buttons to choose between OFF (running to normal settings) DS (delayed start delay of up to 45 mins based on room temp) when ON it will run this. OS (optimum start) when ON is selected it will run in this. You then have the option of pressing the >> button for OP STOP (on/off) and pressing>> again TPI settings with choices of OFF ( normal swing value) 3 or 6 cycles (3 is for oil fired boiler 6 for gas). Pressing>> again gives you swing sensitivity calibration.
I will try and get a video on in the next few weeks covering this for you. TPI may not be available depending on how you system/ boiler is wired and what it is capable of. While the instructions do not have clarity on this it would usually require opentherm capabilities and wiring.
Hope this helps & please come back to me with any questions

Hi, thank you for the video. Do you know how to turn the light on. My machine has gone dark and I don’t know how to turn the light on
Hi Amna,
Sounds like you may be in need of a battery change.
4.3 Battery Replacement
When the low battery symbol flashes in the LCD display, the
batteries need to be replaced as soon as possible. The battery
compartment is located on the front of the thermostat, under
the fascia cover. Remove the old batteries and insert new
ones. All settings including time are maintained.
N.B. If the display ever goes blank during normal operation,
the batteries need to be replaced with high quality
alkaline cells. The date, time and factory pre-set heating
times will be retained (assuming the back up battery has
not failed).
Hope this helps

Thank you so much much easier than instructions! My downstairs thermostat says room temperature is constantly at 25 degrees which means I can’t use the auto mode other wise the house will be boiling! Is there a way to reset room temperature other than battery change and holding reset button?
Hi Jessica, Sorry I missed your comment, a few comments don't seem to have been appearing in my feed and I have only just seen it now. If the display is showing the actual room temp at 25 degrees and your set temp is less than this your heating shouldn't some on anyway. your heating should only ever kick in if your room temp is lower than your target temp. One thing I wiould check is your upstairs stat isn't contolling downstairs. Turn down downstairs stat and turn up upstairs, if downstairs stays cold your ok, if they come on you have crossed zones which would need rectifiying.
I could maybe talk you through how if this were the case

@Di W iv no answer for you unfortunately still clicks all the time!
Thankyou for this! What does the H button mean as well please? Thanks.
Hello,
You are Welcome.
The H button is a holiday mode button.
Holiday Mode saves energy by letting you reduce the
temperature for 1 to 99 days while you are away from
home, resuming normal operation on your return.
You will need to set up the amount of days you will be away and what you would want the temp set to while you are away. After the days have counted down to zero it will return to your normal program.
Hope this helps

@@theheatingpro Thank you very much. I’ve sorted and set my heating system. Thank you for your help and support. Cheers
We just got this today and we have 4 available programmable times. How do you get it to be 6 available times as you have?
I know it's been 9 months since you asked the question... I've only just had this boiler installed and found the answer here:

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this great video. Just one question please. On your boiler, mine is Baxi 600. Do you turn the boiler on to maximum all the time to activate these settings on the thermostat?
james shallow Hi James, Boiler on max generally gives you an output on most boilers of between 75-80 degrees. This in theory shortens the time for your house/apartment to heat up and will likely result in your boiler reaching modulation/condensing mode quicker so again in theory should be cheaper on the gas bill. This will cover most modern installations 10 years old and less. Hope this helps Regards Roger
I have the thermostat, which I'm using manually. Can I switch off the heating, even if the room temperature doesn't reach the set temp - say after an hour? Can I switch the heating off once the set temperature has been set, but the swing setting hasn't kicked in, ( +/- 0.5 degrees c) - the set temperature and house temperature are the same, but the house temp hasn't reached 18.5 degrees?
Life saver for the pre dawn populace

Hi, really helpful and I have subscribed. I am still a little confused. All I want to do is it be around 21 degrees from 6.45 am to 7.45 am and then off until I get home from work at 5pm, around 21 degrees again. Don’t want heating on while I’m at work. Xx
Just had mine setup, watched your vid but where the date shows at the bottom it flashes " unboil " any ideas why ? Tks
Very grateful for the demo.
Roger. Can you tell me please. When the heating comes on, should there be a flame symbol on the thermostat? I don’t ever remember seeing one. Thanks.
thank you, great instructions, made setting our boiler so much easier

Know about the frost protector setting but I have another control box next to the boiler, not sure what I do with it, it has 2 buttons, 1 manual 1, M,A , esi model.
Hi Alan,
You must have an RF set up. This means your stat does not have wires back to the boiler, but the stat communicates with the receiver ( control box at the boiler) via radio frequency (RF). The stat and receiver need to be connected and there are ways to set this up. You can always override the stat which is the manual on the control box.
Look through the details below and hopefully you will be able to pair the two and be able to use the stat as you would like.
Manual Operation
It is possible to operate the receiver manually. This may be
necessary where, for example, the batteries in the Thermostat
(Transmitter) are depleted and therefore the heating cannot
turn ON or OFF.
1. To engage the manual override, press the MANUAL
button on the receiver, which will then light up with a
18 19
green background. This shows that the manual override
is active.
2. Use the M/A button to manually override the status of
the receiver. If ON, the heating will turn OFF (M/A red
light goes off). If OFF, the heating will turn ON (M/A red
light comes on).
N.B. It is important to remember that the automatic control
of the receiver is now off and the receiver will only
respond to manual operations.
3. To return to Auto mode, press the MANUAL button on
the receiver and the green light will turn off. The receiver
should now be back in Auto mode, recieving commands
from the thermostat.
N.B. If the receiver cannot receive a signal for 30 minutes,
both the red and green light will flash and the unit will
need to be reconfigured.
Hope this helps

Hi there
I have this thermostat, I have a filter symbol coming up and the heating isn't coming in.
Can you please advise as to whether this is linked and how to get it back to normal?
Thank you
Regards
I have found the solution from another video.
Might be useful for everyone else.
ua-cam.com/video/4H9VkBUfsHs/v-deo.html
I switched my boiler off as my local water pipe burst and we had no water in the house so was advised to switch off boiler. When I switched it on, heating wasn't coming on via thermostat and a "filter" sign was showing which I didn't know what it meant. I had to switch heating on manually from the boiler which was a pain. The above link was useful and helped me reset it.
Hope it helps
Hi Sabine, Glad you found the answer on ESi's own videos. This video is for the standard stat whereas the issue you have is on an RF version. I have never fitted the RF version as all the ones we work with on New Build are hard wired. The basis for setting up is the same but just the pairing and manual override on the RF unit.

@theheatingpro
Mate that's bang on.
Thank you 🙏🏾
Hello,
first things first, this is a cracking video, very informative..(maybe ESI should link to this guide, it's a million times more informative than the instructions that come in the box..)..
my question is this, after setting my stat to the times and temps i want do i leave the slide button in 'prog' or switch it across to 'Auto' to let it run as i've programmed..?
many thanks in advance.
Chris Langwade Hi Chris, switching to auto runs those times and temps you have set up. Prog is just that where you set those programs. Thanks for the kind feedback Regards Roger
Thank you saved me time
Happy to help
