It was reading about them that first made me comprehend how different "mountain people" are from other people, and how alike they are too one another in so many ways, regardless of where they be geographically. Independent, stubborn, self-reliant. The same no matter what "mountain folks" you choose, whether Balkan, New England, Appalachian, Rocky Mountains, Montagnard, Scottish Highlands, etc. All share the same separation from the "flatland" folk.
