    Hi everyone. A teacher here. English teacher to be exact. Hehehe... Those tips given are useful. And I personally think that talking to yourself is one of the best way. And read a lot. READ. Find something that you can read. I mean something that attracts you so much. Any kind of story books or magazines or comics or any science fiction that you like. For me, I love Enid Blyton. The sentences are simple and easy to be understood. Sampai sekarang, teacher masih suka buku2 jenis fairytale. Good luck everyone.

    My 14 year old son learns english by watching youtube videos. He has been communicating with his siblings and me since he stated talking in English but later it created a problem. It became his first language. He was poor in his BM. So we made some minute changes in our communication pattern and it did improve his BM. Not great but way lot better.

    adik, i love your pronunciation, it is certainly not exaggerating but the way you pronounce every words is precise and easy to understand. Arwah emak (al fatihah) used to be an english teacher, but i was sooo bad at english, i embarrassed her alot when i was a kid. konon mcm rebellious, tak nak cakap english sebab bukan nak pergi luar negara pun. ape ke bingung. haha. tp arwah emak gave me a dictionary, buku latihan and a book to read every week. every single word yg tak faham tulis dlm buku latihan, search the meaning dlm dictionary and at the end of the month baca balik buku latihan tu, believe it or not..perkataan tu boleh guna dlm essay english and improve my vocabulary so i passed my english essay, dpt markah tinggi sikit sbb guna words yg jarang org guna. yelah, word dlm dictionary, kemain lagi. haha now akak still sukaaaa membaca. esp fiction, sbb mmg suka berangan walaupun umur dah tua.. haha anyway, adik. love this video, thumbs up!

    You see, I have a low elf-esteem problem. My mom studied in English speaking school and then proceed abroad in US. Meanwhile my sister could use English fluently. But when it comes to me, I somehow feel intimidated and nervous whenever I try to speak in front of them or anyone who I feel superior than me in English, even when I speak to my 8 y/o nephew who lives in Australia. I know I shouldn't be and feel this way, but somehow I'm always afraid people will judge the way I speak because I stutter a lot. And FYI, I usually get an A in my english tests/exams and I achieved even greater grade than my sister in English for SPM. Sure achieving a greater grade can be a proud thing, but that's only in written paper. When you go out in the society, people won't even ask what grade did you get for your SPM, what they acknowledge is how fluent you are when you speak. But yeah, even though we have trouble in speaking english, at least we learn, never stop learning and never give up. The tips she gave us could help to increase our self-esteem. I wish you all the best in the future to be able to speak english fluently, so please do pray for me too :D

    I was born in Poland so I talk with my family in Polish, my parents and I live in Germany now so with my friends I speak Germany and when I'm alone at home or just in my room I talk to myself in English because I only watch like English youtubers or something. But sometimes I would watch a Korean drama or reality show and then I talk to myself in Korean (I mean.. I only know like.. 20 words in Korean? But nevermind😂). So it's kinda complicated and I think my brain might explode soon😂 But anyways... thank you for those tips and good luck with your channel😊

    hi! I know it's already late but...
    I first started to learn English from my mom. My mom went to study in the UK, or specifically in Manchester. My mum was not so great English speaker when she first when there, just barely enough to communicate so she picked up many words/pronunciation while studying there. I always thought she is the best English speaker since I live in the countryside where there are not many people who can speak or even understand English. She teaches me a lot of British pronunciation.
    Sometimes I would pick up some words from the American TV show and use them. She would correct me after that, saying how it should be pronounced. At that time I don't know there is US Eng nor UK Eng. I was barely 5 years old. When I went to primary school, teachers would make us read texts from the textbook. I always got picked since they know I'm good at it but in the end, I would get scolded/corrected for my pronunciation while I'm completely fine when I read it with my mom. There was once, my teacher asks me if I want to join a storytelling competition. I was so excited since I never join any storytelling competition (I live in the countryside, rarely had any competition). I would practice until late at night only to be turned down because they don't like my pronunciation and I should work more to correcting it. After that, I completely shut my mouth, never speak any English unless it is necessary.

    • @hanan8627
      @hanan8627 3 роки тому +6

      Until now, I always have insecurity about my pronunciation. I'm 16 this year and people still judge me. I try to learn to speak like other people and it makes my pronunciation even weird cause I mix a lot of accents. My English has become worse than it is before. I barely talk and these days I don't read so much since I was busy with school works. I just wanted to do my best for SPM next year... :-)
      Thanks for reading this looong diary, it feels like you are my best friend that always listening. So much pleasure, if you have any suggestion or anything that can help me.
      ps: these days British Accent become quite trendy but they only consider British like how Harry Potter would talk which is SouthEastern British accent. Guys, even though UK is small, they have more accents than you think.

    • @hanan8627
      @hanan8627 3 роки тому +4

      plus: I don't think I really bad at speaking British English. I've spoken with British English speakers they said my English is perfectly fine and become weird if I try to speak in American Accent (or the accent that Malaysian speak)

    you did an amazing job with these tips! the last few ones really are helpful with studying the english language itself (videos, consuming entertainment purely in english, etc), but i agree that speaking (both with yourself+with others) are some of the only ways to improve your speaking. i've been better than average at using the language itself in writing and reading, but i've always struggled with speaking and enunciation. during highschool (f1) i entered a multiracial school, where most of the students spoke in english rather than malay, so i started speaking it daily. definitely helped me improve my own speaking skills.

  • @ayyhana
    @ayyhana 5 років тому +34

    GURLLLL i swear i did exactly the same to improve my english, and sometimes it's hard to explain to those who asked, they always thought that i speak english at home when i don't, it just comes naturally ya know, i just like to watch youtube videos, english movies, listen to english songs ever since i was in primary school, and then started to absorb how they talk and such, oh and even in malay dramas, i actually read the subtitles and that's how i improve my vocab for a beginner, and yes, it takes time, even until now, im still looking forward to improving myself, grammatical errors are very common but that's fine, AND YEAH i do talk to myself as well, i used to not have that confidence to speak in public and just like u i can write well in class but i stutter when i actually talk in english, and where i grew up, it's actually hard to find someone that is actually open to these things u get me? thank god as the time goes by, i've met a lot of people and i have some friends to talk in english to now and by that i started to build up my courage to speak out loud, SO YEAH for those people out there, NEVER STOP LEARNING AND NEVER GIVE UP

    English is my least favourite subject since in primary school.Gladly, I managed to survive this subject throughout my school life.But of course it is not the end of it cause we use english everywhere especially in our daily life,at work,in college etc.The fact that I hate english because I have a sort of bad memories of it.I still remember when I felt so down that I got the lowest mark in my english class..Till now, I still hate english but PRETEND to like it.Nowadays,someone who is good in english is highly demanded and I bet they will probably get a nice job in the future.That's why I've always push myself to learn english despite I hate it cause I want a better future for myself.I also want to fulfill my goal for this year that I want to improve my english skill in both speaking and writing.Wish me luck.

    I am one kind of killing 2bird's with one stone, bcz while work to earn money i also get to learn english..😇

    When i was in university i used to chat with foreigners. It was effective guys.. at first i had difficulty to express my ideas, so day by day i learned it and i gained the way how the English native speakers conversed... My recommendation to those who are going to start learning English is by reading a story book first. When you read the book, you just write down the word that you dont understand and then find the meaning. Sometimes you will find the words that they use is new to you, sometime you will find the words that they use is simple to you.. Anyways it depends on your determination!

Plus, I love to talk to myself with a sassy tone and now I am a good storyteller and a poem reader.. (I'm 14 years old) 😂 I recommend it! Talking to yourself really works but you have to becareful if you have any grammar errors.. if you want to be a great storyteller or a poem reader, talk to yourself with a dramatic tone so that you can tell a story / read a poem more fun that when people hear your story, they would actually be interested in hearing it~

    I know I am way too late, but thanks to todays technology its way easier learning it even while watching a normal english content or some movies.
    It is indeed feels better if you are speaking to yourself while doing something like giving a commentary about something you see or hear.
    I also love watching anything on english subtitles and reading in english and will try to translate some of the words that you don't know by reading the situation of the thing you read or watch.
    After watching this video I am suprised that I learned english the same way without even knowing.
    By the way, this year I am taking SPM so wish me a goodluck.

    Looking back, what I did:
    1) watched and listened to a lot of English content cartoons, movies, series, documentaries, MUSIC, etc
    2) yes, having the opportunity to speak in English with friends! And I totally agree with talking to yourself! A lot of the times children use the language they’ve heard/learned when playing pretend by themselves or with others.. so yes! Speak like no one’s watching 😘
    3) Yes reading aloud and also listening to audio books (yes we had those back in the 90s, so you can perhaps guess my age 😂)

      And these are assuming that you have mastered pronunciation:
      1. Find a text, read carefully and aim for 100% accuracy and then repeat slowly at first and go faster until the point you can repeat without making mistakes. This is like a mouth acrobat.
      2. Practice common phrases that native speakers(who are educated) use in daily discourse. Same like the above, repeat slowly until you can say it quickly.
