Genesis BBC BROADCASTS is an extensive collection of broadcast material from one of the biggest selling recording artists of all time and one of Britain's most internationally renowned bands. Curated by founder member Tony Banks and the group’s long-time engineer and producer Nick Davis, it is available as a 53-track 5-CD set and 24-track triple LP.
Released on March 3rd 2023, this is the first time all of these tracks have been released on vinyl and the first time a majority of the iconic 1987 Wembley show have been made available in an audio only format.
These collections represent the cream of the group’s work recorded by the BBC between 1970 and 1998, and it includes contributions from all three of the group’s vocalists, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Ray Wilson. With notes by author Michael Hann, and packaged with a 40-page booklet, BBC BROADCASTS contains favorites such as "Home By The Sea," "Mama," "Duchess," "Carpet Crawlers," "No Son Of Mine," "Turn It On Again" and many more.
With only a handful of these tracks previously officially available, Genesis BBC BROADCASTS acts as both a collector’s cornucopia and an alternative “greatest hits.” Stretching from the very beginnings of the band’s career via appearances on "Night Ride" and John Peel, the set encompasses both of the group’s Knebworth performances (78 and 92) as well as their much-loved 1980 show at London’s Lyceum, and triumphant sell-out run of shows at Wembley in 1987.
Rounded out by material from the NEC in 1998 and Paris Theatre and Nightride sessions from the early 70s, as well as the much sought-after encore version of "Watcher Of The Skies" at Wembley Empire Pool in 1975, Genesis BBC BROADCASTS is a veritable treasure trove.

I am a huge Phil and Genesis fan. As in regards to Genesis, I enjoy all eras of the band as a lifelong Genesis fan. I started out with the Genesis album which is a huge album for me. Then I heard ABACAB and Invisible Touch. Then I went out on my own with all the other albums. But make a long story short I am a huge Genesis fan. All album are always in play for me.
Nothing tops their 1974/5 lamb lies down on Broadway tour. Got the boots

The main reason I bought the boxset was to get all those early Genesis live recordings especially those John Peel sessions- absolutely priceless as well as the 1978 Knebworth concert which I have been seeking in vain for many years. Overall this boxset absolute must-have for any serious Genesis fan.

Yeah back in the day they had an double album set called three sides live and on side four it was a studio recording.
I bought the 3lp set. Sides 3 and 4 are absolute bangers! 5 and 6 are a weirdly 80's sounding bootleg trippy sound with everything blown but no instrument separation. Sides 1 and 2 cover the Gabriel years. I like how they move from Gabriel to Collins by including Collins singing Dancing with the Moonlight Knight from the lyceum 80's show. It's a cool idea, a Gabriel era song sung by Collins to take us into the Collins on vocals years. I've been a fan for donkey's, saw the Milton Keynes Six of the Best gig, and this is a well thought out box set. Very happy it's spinning on my deck.

It's a typical Genesis release. The only live album that has a every song they played on that tour is "Live Over Europe" the rest are incomplete. A chunk of this was released on the "Archive II" box set, they were mixed with B-sides, and remixes so even less coherent. Back in the days of the official forum the band teased that they were working on "soundboard" tapes. They talked about releasing those but that never happened. There are things that that exist that are withheld for "various reasons". The tracks are out there. A ton of these complete concerts exist on UA-cam. It does sound pretty good though. Would be nice if it was more complete and in some kind of decent order. I'd pay a lot more for more!
The best genesis album 1983 is the best I sew them in1992
I've been a big Genesis fan for years, I picked up this box set when it was released and I love it. #SOAPBOX RANT INCOMING# I find it sad and somewhat frustrating that the high and mighty music industry wants so desperately to push us away from physical media. Collecting this type of release is part of being a fan. Simply adding the album to your collection in your streaming service of choice is not ever going to be an equivalent experience. Music industry executives must have given a collective groan of annoyance when vinyl records got a second lease of life.

Just my opinion but I don’t think it’s healthy to only listen to metal (though it makes up 85% of my collection).
I think this is a great idea with a second channel. It caught my attention immediately 1:07 as I’ve been on a big Genesis kick lately too - great stuff.
I’ve been loving the early Peter Gabriel solo albums too.

Genesis are amazing up to 78. Fantastic composition and musicianship.
To be fair I am not a real fan of that boxset, but I can understand the appeal for some fans and collectors

I really advise people to not buy the box - because any archival release with a specific concept (e.g broadcast performances) is a failure if it doesn't include everything known to exist. The Genesis brain trust should have known that - the only reason they're releasing this is to compete with those grey-market semi-bootlegs. For now, the bootlegs win in terms of value for money and usefulness!
On the box set, first thing I noticed is that the Night Tracks session is lacking Looking For Someone (the "take it" version) and Stagnation (the "quest for gold" version), and the Sounds episodes are missing Watcher Of The Skies and The Musical Box (that version where he mumbles through the "touch me" part, and they over-extend the "Old King Cole" part just like on the Farm Tape).
And now that I think about it, there's really no excuse (in light of all the above) for not making it a nine-disc box and including the complete Wembley Lamb show and (for those who care) the uncut versions of the post-Hackett shows.
Totally agree with , what a wasted opportunity yet again short changing fans. Knebworth 78 should have been released in its entirety even in the edited form it was broadcast originally . Not to include the audio of the In the cage medley from Wembley 1987 is criminal. I get the reason the video wasn't included but the audio , come on , it was actually broadcast. I just don't get their release decisions over the years , sad really !
