that's not correcct, the il76 was only intended to be a cargo plane and only droppping of ordnance was in a training some time back where they dropped 4x 50kg bomb from hardpoints located under the wings. The cupola in the front was made for observing the landing and navigating, not for bombsights
Rage Master once again the il76 was not capable of doing any direct support during the manufacturing, the only time when such a thing has happened with this particular plane type was in a training and they did not use a bombsight in the bottom canopy
it has seating for passengers on the top and they sold some to a few airlines. look up Saudi 763 crash and there is one of them transporting passengers involved
John Castro yeah i know that, but my question was why bother making it a passenger plane when it is clearly a military one. It doesn't have even windows.
Thanks for posting these videos. I find older Soviet/Russian aircraft quite interesting in that they were flown for many years and had a good safety record considering how many hours they put on them. Would love to fly in the IL-62 and the Tu-154. From what I read, they were real workhorses.
Dustin Travis Take in count that their fleet is 30+ years old in average. Except few new planes they obtained in last couple years. Maintenance is simply amazing.
This is not an attack or criticism of author of the video. I have worked on IL-62 in Polish Airlines. Russian engines which IL-62 uses (D-30 KU and NK-8) are not safe and have fatal flaws which were never fixed. There were two tragic air disasters in Poland in 1980 and 1987 (where over 260 people lost their lives), as well additional incident in 1991 which ended luckily. There is a Discovery Channel production (Polish language, English subtitles) which explains well with computer graphics, what caused 1987 crash. It can be found on UA-cam by searching "flight 5055". There is another video "Podzwonne dla Ila-62" (Polish language only) which gives account to 1991 incident. Also (and this is sad and shocking) there is also another video which can be found on UA-cam: "IL-62 El San Domingo" - which gives account to aftermath of an emergency landing of Cuban IL-62 in April 2008. Last video proves, Russian NEVER fixed engine's problems. Please understand I'm not trying to criticize anyone. My motivation writing all this, I just feel, anybody who flies those planes in present time, should have right to know all the truth about them. Hey Sam. You must visit Chile and do some flight via Latam Airlines then go to Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams via DAP Airlines. If is possible you can flight also to Antartica in a Twin Otter or a Hércules C130 from Chilean Air Force (...you will see the real end of the world!).
Heyy! I've been on your channel for a week now and I just fell in love with it! After I've seen in the comment box that you lived in Abu Dhabi, and I live in Dubai, I was just wondering, by any chance if you guys would do another trip to North Korea next summer and I would love to join because I always wanted to visit North Korea. But if this isn't possible then it's totally fine by me. Keep up the good job!
What's joyflight? you take passengers for a joy ride and then make your way back to the same airport? What's the point of doing this? BTW 7:21 is MS Peng North Korean?
isn't it obvious there's a massive sheet over the cockpit window and yes I know it's only temporary before you start saying it's not supposed to be there and all that shit

The first plane was flown in 1963 and was created by the Soviets, just FYI. Wouldn't it be that the engines of the II-62 aren't forward of the wings, so it doesn't give as much lift and may use up more fuel, making it more expensive to run, plus you have to reinforce the back of the plane to carry all that weight, especially given their paired engines on both sides (unlike almost all modern jet airplanes; where the engines are parallel or slightly forward of the wing)? I though I heard something along those lines from Air Crash Investigations, about the rear-mounted engines being less efficient and more unstable if both engines on one side are shut-off. Also, flaws in the interior design, if the chap is right, then there's not a lot preventing someone cutting the outlets to the engines or damaging the avionics, tampering with the electrics. But yes, I'm curious too.
***** ohhhh 'the cover?' it's the front with the windows! Very good, very good, and here I'm thinking it could be the higher risk of stall, given the rear mounting of the engines, at the right angle, the wings can decrease air-flow substantially enough to where the plane stalls (I believe there was early 'stall-stick shaker' tech in the planes, but not always effective).

Am I the only one thinking, that at the windows under the cockpit you could make the most epic Buisness/First Class ever?
NO ... THAT FOR CREW COCKPITS ONLY BRO ...
it was made so you could put a bomb sight in it (all planes of this size had to be nuclear capable at the time)
that's not correcct, the il76 was only intended to be a cargo plane and only droppping of ordnance was in a training some time back where they dropped 4x 50kg bomb from hardpoints located under the wings. The cupola in the front was made for observing the landing and navigating, not for bombsights

Definetly not WW2, as it has jet engines.
i can't understand how this plane is a passenger plane. It is clearly meant to be a military transport plane. It's like making a B-52 passenger.
+katsarosfiat It isn't. If and when people get inside, it's for tourist flights
it has seating for passengers on the top and they sold some to a few airlines. look up Saudi 763 crash and there is one of them transporting passengers involved
John Castro
yeah i know that, but my question was why bother making it a passenger plane when it is clearly a military one. It doesn't have even windows.
+katsarosfiat it is because they have to stick and adapt with what they have. Aldo remember this is a 1 Star airline
katsarosfiat Several military transport planes have been converted into passenger planes.

I must say,IL-62 is a beauty!
Agreed
agree
Agreed
The front looks terrible with that big, fat chin 😂😂😂
The planes are very clean!!! Many airlines can learn about it!
Leonardo Agreed.
Leonardo well when you only have 19 planes in your whole fleet it should be pretty easy to keep all 19 clean
Dustin Travis Take in count that their fleet is 30+ years old in average. Except few new planes they obtained in last couple years. Maintenance is simply amazing.
I know but that's because no one flys on them! But still I would love to try boarding in one!
epiccheese911 You would be suprised how much they use them actually.
Nice airport. Very clean and comfortable. And the vip lounge is superb!

ah, Miss Kim, miss you !, you are a wonderful friend, thank you for all your help and advice on our trip.
Very clean and freshly decorated.
You are obviously having a great time - well done and thanks for posting!
I'm heading this year. September. Aviation tour 60th anniversary Air Koryu.
Cannot wait!!!!
chris j Upload videos!!!
The engines of the IL-76 are so musical
But gotta admit, those IL’s look Badass 😍
I didn't realise that you could get passenger IL-76s!
Oh! Mrs. Kim my favorite tourist guide in North Korea...
appears to be the only one lol. i know she isnt. jus sayin
the il76 is a military aircraft converted as passengers
It may be a airline from a place we hate but it's still a great airline
AvGeek North Korea is one the many reasons I love soviet era planes, they’re still flying them
We dont hate them.
feel the Soloviev simphony! thx...

IL - 62 beautiful
Il-76 is mainly cargo and military transport plane, not really intended for passengers.
2:30 what a smooth landing
No plane sounds better than the IL-76
What about An-22 or Tu-95?
Hear that sound, thats the sound of north korea's air defense slowly dying away...
From Coronavirus
Мощно, красиво. Спасибо.
Superschönes Video. Vielen herzlichen Dank.
Do you think that a twin engined IL-62 with high bypass turbofans will still be a viable long range airliner today ?
IL62 like a VC 10 which was an amazing plane at the time especially in Air Zambia to LHR but stopping for technical I cannot recall
The IL62 is awesome
I swear air koryo has all the cool planes
Wouldn’t that front window seat in the cargo deck make a great private seat?
WHAT? THE ENGINES ARE RUNNING AS WE ARE BOARDING. WHAT DID YOU SAY?
That happens on all airliners. They run at low throttle, no big issue. Its so they get warmed up.
sarge505050 at least for JumpStart
these engines are like broadway hookers. they both suck and they blow
take me with you SAM , that's so nice to travel and ride lot of different aircrafts
Sam chui that was awesome video
Is it only me that thinks IL-76 engine sounds like extra-terrestrial thing?
Amazing they let you walk around on tarmac and I agree they are old but maintain the best they can
Another amazing and interesting video. Thanks for your sharing
Old soviet aircrafts were awesome
8:05 Why Captain is sitting in the economy class seat??
Honestly the only times you can whip out your camera in North Korea is when they’re flexing something
excelente video, gracias por compartir.
Amazing plane !
the cabin is very confortable
Wow deez nuts
Emershow it's comfortable moron.
There seems to be a growth of some kind under the chin of the plane.
Ил 62м. ОТЛИЧНАЯ МАШИНА!!✌
we put again this video on our progamme
Do you mean KCNA? That would be awesome if these videos were on DPRK State TV!
SouthwesternEagle , No comment
do you realize that north Korea airline don't have Boeing and Airbus plane? just have an old plane from Russia. why??
Nirth Korea only buys planes from Russia. Every plane in their fleet is from the soviet era.
Trade embargoes against them from the US and Europe
The State Central Business District probably want to stay as far as they can from being "western"
There are no passenger , are they in the basement or is there loft where all of them are .
Air Koryo's 747
I was going to go on that tour, but i went to Singapore instead
The same aircraft for Indian air Force my father flyies it
IL 76 used to be 6 men cockpit aircraft n one of them used to be a navigator
Anyone who says they didn't like these are liars. I didn't expect to see such immaculate aircraft.
What's joyflight? you take passengers for a joy ride and then make your way back to the same airport? What's the point of doing this?
BTW 7:21 is MS Peng North Korean?
+Logan Park It's for those of us who are interested in flying airplanes that are no longer in service in regulare passenger service.
Красавцы , самолёты ,!!!,!!!
thats pretty cool
Is IL-76 for passenger or cargo? Because there are no windows on that aircraft.
It is cargo
the engines of IL76 make buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu or booooooooo
isn't it obvious there's a massive sheet over the cockpit window and yes I know it's only temporary before you start saying it's not supposed to be there and all that shit
6:50 Cut this section? Are they expecting the plane to crash so they just put it on the livery to make it easier for the Firefighters/rescue teams?
+DoranoIS did u see the bird
DoranoIS Wtf i don't understand u
Hey Sam, i want to fly in North Korea for my youtube channel called Sky Report. I was wondering how you organized to fly on all of the planes. Thx

5:31 that plane has one major design flaw
How about you actually say what it is, compared to just leaving everyone going "Uhh I wonder what it is".. Like what the fuck.
+Skulls Ain't Dead you know that kim jounun sells drugs to china. And they sell weapons to terrorist.
Did they allow anyone to sit in their Dead Reconer nose at all during their Il-76 flight?
Plot twist. The air Koryo il76 was actually operated by VDV
+FlyerKbos
I agree with you. everything is 100% true.

russian planes! love it!
dumal2501 You mean USSR era planes.
Why are there Americans or Europeans on board that plane? 🤔
Russians, ex USSR countries and to a lesser extent Germans are regulars in NK under strict visa conditions. However, Americans are allowed in but must pay large amounts of money to the NK tourism company and are under extremely strict control by NK handlers.
Оказывается Сэм экстремал, надеюсь что парашют был при нём )))
why the cargo plane can passengers plane?!
