Respect Monia! Jeeecze raz: respect ;)!
Hello!! since this documentary came out, I see how some europeans thake the hint and some have felt attacked by the jamaican dancers. I think europeans, russians, americans, japanese...we all need to listen jamaicans opinión and understand how they feel, they are more tan inspiration, they are more tan the basics, they are DANCEHALL. Ok I am european, I have beeing studing Jamaica history, culture and dance almost 14 years, I went to Jamaica to understand better, now I dance, I teach and I promote dancehall in my country, supporting jamaican dancers is my profession. I dont want anybady to take disrespect but im tired of all this ego fights! I've been seing how dancehall developes worldwide, I know who was a dancehall dancer 10 years ago, I know who was a hip hop dancer, I know who was a raggajam dancer and who became european dancehall stars in last 3 years...and I see how the hype, the fame and the money make you belive you are Queens and Kings of a culture that doesnt belong to you. Yes there are such amazing dancers outside Jamaica, some have wonderful skills and technique, much more than I will never have, they are good in dancing, dancing anykind of dance and they créate very atractive choreos and HD videos with thousands of visits (much more than any jamaican video) but a lot of them care zero about Jamaica. Some talk about loving dancehall culture but they dont even understand it, they just love to dance and use their fame for their own benefit. for example booking some of this dancers to teach, show or judge is even more expensive than bringing a Jamaican dancer to Spain!! Come on..... :s I beg humbly. This kind of dancers should invent another name to their dance and their social network coulture. Or maybe if they think Jamaica is not that important anymore and that dancehall coulture doesnt belong to anybody... they sould use european dancehall songs to dance instead jamaican artist ;) I agree with a lot of opinions in this documentary, and I hope it reaches many people and make them understand, is not fair for jamaicans dancers, they sould have more recognition than us. I know my words may not benefit my career in Europe, but anyways...who am I? Europe has always appropriate and despoiled other continents, you know what Colón did in that island? dont do this to dancehall now , lets try to do the right thing, I know a lot of dancers around the world that are doing so great and they make jamaicans proud, everybody can dance but please..... THE TREE IS NOTHING WITHOUT THE ROOTS.
°°°NOBODY HAS TO TAKE DISRESPECT !!!! °° To respect and get inspiration of what have been done, shouln’t prevent us to establish what is and what will be. I don’t aim to be Bogle, I wanna go farther than Bogle, and I know we get the potential for it, because now we get more tools and because he gave us the basics ! What a mess would it be to stay in the same level… Roots make trees, foundations homes, seeds flowers. Why won’t we stop living in our cavern, in front of shadows of what have been realized before ? Why not writing History too ? Some cultures are the result of the sum of prior cultures who gave birth to an illegitimate child indebted of his past. And if Africa is the Humanity cradle, Europe owns this legacy we are all responsible for, too. We got more than 2000 years of History since Jesus Christ, please don’t make the mistake to believe we are owners. Since Men settled, he learnt sharing, he influenced his fellow, and got inspiration from him to create at his turn. Do you know how dictionary defines “to create” ? It’s “giving life”. Since you are giving life to something, yes it’s unique, yes it’s yours, because you created it. But it’s also universal because at this moment you gave chance to everybody to grab it and make it his. Us, Europeans, are practically becoming illegitimate at dancehall education and are victims of our respect and our will to make this culture growing. Today, Europeans put their means in spreading dancehall in the entire world… For what ? Our speech carries less weight, we are failed in front of our colleagues and are losing our credibility from our peers but our students too ! Yes, dancehall is a culture but also a dance and dance doesn’t belong to anyone but to everyone. I think it is time for us to swim and not to be only rubber rings for others to breathe out of water. Let them learn how to swim by themselves, for us to put our efforts in our swim and not others. We will go so much farther… Respect is a fundamental thing and each one of us should take the time to use it. It is so tiring battling against our peers. See how much energy we put in it, how much energy we are losing ! We all love the same culture and all take the time to fight each other instead of fighting FOR it ! It is such a pity… And as far as European dancers are concerned, our inaction may be, I have no doubt, the result of our division… A such splitted group was an easy target… From my point of view, we are now suffocating. We are suffocating because we are now dependents of our own humility of wanting to respect a culture which is not ours. We only tried to respect and we made the mistake to idealize this culture, her actors, her roots, forgetting about our own roots, our own talent, our own identity and our endless potential ! I don’t want to wait for anyone’s blessing anymore, I shouldn’t need it, WE shouldn’t need it. If dancehall is still my way of express, my vocabulary is rich of my history and my experience and I don’t want to limit it to a one and only language. Europe is so strong, has such a History, such an interbreeding…. Let’s not limit us with any barrier, let’s not be impressed by our peers anymore. There are so many things to create… That is what I call Dancehall’Iz It. An endless vocabulary for a one and only voice. 2015, it’s my turn to write History.

When foreigners do dancehall they need to give more credit to Jamaica and stop selling it off as their own
