Wait wait, this is a fan-made ad??? Really? What a Masterpiece. I wish that adidas buy this commercial.
NlsnRMA pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee
they refused to and now they know they made a mistake
not really, still advertising their brand to millions, but this way its free
Its a german students commercial idea for adidas, but adidas declined to use it.
Adidas don't need to buy it. It's already gone viral! And it's great. Props for the guy that made this, great story, editing, filming, photography...
“We tried sending it to [Adidas’] communications department but they didn’t really react,” Merher, a 26-year-old student at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, told The Huffington Post.
Of course they didn't react. You showed them how shit they are compared to a student.
Ouch.....
You should hire this guy. Imagine what he could create for the company if you paid him.
Good thing too, this spec commercial is absolutely brilliant. You should just go ahead and put it on TV. I love Adidas!
Should consider airing this ad worldwide. This will be so inspiring for many. :)
Jacqueline Lee Go away! Your spamming
Hey people, thank you very much for all the love&hate, we are overwhelmed and appreciate every comment and try to read it ;)
A film is something that an entire team of creatives makes, our team and cast is in the description above! Also, we created a new commercial, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/2GtlXxNgo7Y/v-deo.html
I don't like dang girl
Eugen Merher put this is the best video I have ever seen
I loved this video, it put a real smile on my face, thank you.
Eugen Merher Ok, I got the serious feels from this piece. I almost never get serious feels. I'm a block of ice. Good job on melting me. 😉
This made me cry. Both from the perspective of a videographer who loves great works by talented young filmmakers, but also someone who lost his father to dementia several years ago and understands the isolation and depression that comes from old age. This was one of the best short features I have ever watched. I hope it touches your heart too.
"The isolation and depression that CAN SOMETIMES come from old age"...you should see my in-laws and mother...they are the opposite of isolated and depressed, and they serve as an inspiration to me. Heartfelt condolences about your father (lost mine too). RIP
I watch it periodically. Tear up every time. Tragically sad and uplifting at the same time. Find the moments you can,... when you can. Best part for me was the organized support for him by the others. Find a way to free others and free yourself in the process.
This short clip is cinematic genius
wow free advertisement for adidas! how kind!
Film students usually have to do free ads for the real or fictional companies. It is part of their studies.
I was in one for my daughter's class.
What does that have to do with anything???
What, that film students have to do spec ads and I was in one? Kind of part of the conversation.
wut?
Wait a second... that guy at 0:24 is watering a TV!
Terra Tremuit WHAT? 😂
yeah because of his dementia...
Terra Tremuit 😂😂😂😂
obviously. those 50" flats don't grow themselves, you know.
he is watering his tv so he can harvest smartphones in autumn obviously, duh
I'm not crying, I was just dropping onion juices in my eyes...
Good for health 🥲
I cried.
As a runner this is so beautiful, But ya Adidas is overpriced and overrated :P
private account same I love running
private account
better video after volvo with jean claude vandamme. We feel the addidas spirit
private account same
What do you people mean, ignore? Adidas is playing it smart. Free advertisement while they sit back and smoke a cigar. No one asked this guy to make a video for them.
LiftOrGTFO how would they know that he would release it anyways smartass
How would who know he released it? Wasn't this just a project made by a student? I doubt Adidas asked this guy to make an ad for them.
Well, if you had gone through all this effort and got rejected, you still wouldn't want to waste any of it.

Magnificent work. I don't know what happened but I suspect that it was either Adidas PR or their ad agency that rejected it. Over and over again, I have seen “outsider” creative work suggested to and done for companies rejected because it threatens the ad agency's efforts. Who knows, if they had accepted your commercial you might have gotten more work and the agencies don't like that.
David Hoffman-filmmaker
True, but I'm sure he's doing just fine. Sometimes it's not all about the actual brand you're showcasing but the work that comes from it. Just my two cents
They don’t want to give older people ideas about keeping fit and healthy, otherwise nur$ing home$ and big pHARMa will lose profit$$$$!
I remember watching this back when it only had a thousand views and instantly fell in love with it. I showed my family and friends immediately and man you could see that it touched every single one of them. It's amazing to see you now have over 11 million views and I really hope you guys continue creating such masterful and powerful videos!
This is like the best fucking ad i have seen moved me to tears great job on this
pussy
This is the internet, don't question these things. Ignoring it is best.
SAUCY GAMER yes
He sounds Mexican deport him!
o shit, orale
Runs off the cliff... Nurses, told you guys it was a bad idea....
XD hhahahahahahaha
This is as free as it gets.
Arthur Vaiselbuh
Better to die running off the cliff free than die cadged in that damn home!
Grow up, grow old - then you will understand the full import of breaking free!
I actually teared up by the end of this. I get why Adidas ignored it, but less than two minutes it is an amazing story of community and triumph. Huge props, man. Really, really good.
I'm 68 years old and I love this video. I still have my white Adidas 9.9's with black stripes and every time that I run into them while looking thru old boxes in storage brings back a flood of memories from 50 years ago! Just the sight of them warms my heart! Great commercial! Thanks for the memories!
free advertisement for adidas #1 trending video on youtube at the moment and adidas doesn't have to do shit.
adidas MADE this video and just 'said' some adidas loving kid did it but big bad adidas wouldn't use it...
Result: Viral Views
Nope! Know the guy, just a film school project :P
arctansin the least Adidas can do is bung him a free pair of trainers.
Plot Twist, He has Alzheimer, and has been missing for 3 days.
That's what I was thinking- nursing homes don't just imprison old people who still have their mental faculties and competence.
Actually they do, nursing homes are death camps for the elderly.
No, they can't. If you've lost power of attorney to your family because you're deemed incompetent, then they can possibly hold you. Nursing homes can be awful places, but no one is held there against their will unless they aren't mentally competent.
Plot twist: His asshole son takes him home, where he belongs.
Plot Twist: those guys gave him back his shoes so he could play decoy at rush B while they glory it up at A
love this commercial. Beautiful.
Ooh is this a ad I thought it was a song video and the artists name is Adidas
Tyrone : D the guy who made adidas, was a nazi
Tyrone : D u dumbass XD
same here :D
I Am Kevination trending number 4 in my county
don't feed the troll guys
It's about time someone made a video about the physical and emotional abuse that goes on at some of these senior retirement homes. Good work!
How do you know he wasn't suffering from Alzheimers and thought he was training for a race or something. From my viewing point he it was a more secure aged care home and he was mentally ill.
Nope, they were abusing him and made sure he couldn't run back to his home in Miami! He finally escaped and lived out his days back at home, jogging every day and enjoying the freedom of retirement. You did it Larry!
Thank you. Thats what I was thinking @burns0100
XD
SENCILLAMEMTE MARAVILLOSO! BRILLANTE, ESPECTACULAR!

This is the most emotional Ad i ever seen...i hope it becomes a Award!!!
Super Bowl worthy
Super Bowl ads are stupid. This would stand out.
I was just thinking that while watching it. "This is type of commercial you would see aired during the Super Bowl".
Nah, this is in a league worlds apart from that tacky Yankee shite.
Kevin Davis I don't doubt the videos on Vimeo are artistic and creative, and quite possibly better than this commercial. But you brought up Super Bowl commercials. It isn't too difficult to be better than an SB commercial these days.
Is it true Adidas ignored this commercial?
yep
the masses are only allowed to see that which passes first through a very specific filter constructed of very specific people who follow a very specific religion.
the heck does this have to do with religion??
Everything correct except the religion part, unless that particular religion is money...
Yep. They actually sent him a box full of dogshit as a reply. Fucking unbelievable.
Thank you so much for making this! This is what advertising should be--something that touches the heart and inspires. I wish you and your team the best of luck!
I've never seen a spot better than this one. It makes me cry all the times that i see it, and the message he wants to express is wonderful. Great job.
Ads like these always touches the heart. Not some superstar promoting the brand
Plot twist: adidas ignored this video because they knew it'd go viral and they don't have to spend a dime on it.
But it has a negative taste now for the brand. "We don't give a f... about old people."
Including creatives :)
kowdermeister
true ;-)
they want pogba dabbing, no pogba dabbing no advertising for them
exactly.
This actually made me tear up.
Thank you, Eugen, for this wonderful piece of creativity. My first branded athletic shoe was Adidas, some 50+ years ago. The message in this is what I now tell to the basketball team I coach - never stop doing what you love. Believe in yourself and your purpose. And never give up. I would feel more inspired to seek out the product from a commercial like yours, then watching some semi-retired, multi-millionaire, ex-professional athlete extoll the virtues of a shoe they get a kickback from every sale. Keep on the creative and evocative path - you'll have a very loyal following, indeed.
Who the heck is the spawn of Satan who did not like this commercial????
one guy... there has to be that one guy!!!
Careful with that edge Eugene.
kids, 9 yr olds kids who should be playing outside. Those incompetent parents who let their kids getting hooked to youtube are at fault here.
Kevin Davis, you are right, there is something (positive) to be said about being subtle and tactful. If only people commenting on other peoples work could remember that. Perhaps, instead of pointing out their own (amazing) abilities, some day, they will realise that discrediting other peoples work in a derogatory manner, just as trolling, is pointless.
I just spit my coffee out when I read this! LOL
I love these types of advertisements
Look ad - Allegro "English for begginers"
I've shared this video over 50 times to all my clients that think you need a texted novel on screen to envove a reaction. Film is about showing, not telling. This vid is a fine example of that. Bravo!

Amazing work Eugen! I was in tears watching the whole thing. Regardless of Adidas' response, or lack thereof, you should be immensely proud of this video...and I'm sure you are!
I'm a grown man sitting here in the United States with tears in my eyes. Beautiful and thoughtful. Thank you! : *)
How are you?
It's not wrong for a man to cry Bill.
Finally a GOOD video worth being in the trending tab!
I just love this! It totally captures the sheer joy of running!
If I'll see this ad on YT, I won't skip it.
I PROMISE
with you...
Same here!
This advertisement is one of the best I've ever seen. Eugen, you did an amazing job!
Outstanding. So touching. Thank you for making and posting. Truly outstanding work
Bravo! As someone who works in commercials, I can be pretty sure the creatives at Adidas didn't want the brand to be associated with "old people", as they perceive themselves to be the purveyors of cutting edge and hip. Sad thing is that they don't know that the kids are very much into the retro style and that they might possibly have feelings. Please continue to break the advertising mold, I hope that you have a long and successful career.

Eugen Merher!
Why i cant stop my tears WTF WAS THAT
Mikoto its called : HUMANITY
😂
That would have been just a little more perfect and commercial like if his friends got him brand new adidas. Symbolizing his "new" determination to break free.
Or if they escaped too :p
Oh yeah, that would have been good too ha ha ha
hahaah indeed!
Not in the budget! *cough* @Adidas
well i though the same thing
I know someone who will absolutely love this. So heart-wrenching, so real.
This is brillilant!!! I am an athlete who is turning 50 this year, and know that this will be me when I am in my 80's. Made me cry happy tears!
This inspired me to go out, and buy a nike shoe. Thank you adidas! Just do it!
Mark Mata loool

This hit me right in the pathos, Im actually crying. Well done, well done. :)
still watching and rewatching, love this video forever
Adidas should buy this! It gives shivers! It's genius and finally something for the elder people... Respect for the brilliant idea! It's much more than an Ad, it's art... It's moving!
He sent it to em, they didnt seem to care. A company that cares should hire this guy, not adidas
That's because this has been released. They don't have to pay for it and now it's popular. Works for them.
That guy is the wheelchair is a legendary wing man 😂 he knows what you want and he's got what you need. Every guy needs a brother like that
me hizo llorar.
Beautiful! I generally hate commercials. They're vapid and sometimes it's hard to even tell what the commercial is for. They're often obnoxious and loud, and play on the worst of humanity. This commercial is better than any commercial I've seen in recent memory. You all did an amazing job. Keep it up. People are taking note, and I really feel like you'll reap the rewards if you stay true to this kind of vision.
the part where he steps out of the building gives me chills
Goodbye Adidas. Now we are buing Abibas.
or Abidas.
or asics...
Axevello I'm gonna buy Nike from this moment!
Diabedus
Or Kine
Most of us find ourselves being "confined" by something, and few of us have the determination to "break free" of that confinement. Good friends who encourage us are a great help. Outstanding commercial! Well done!
Gorgeous, heartbreaking, and so bitter-sweet. Lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely beautiful and so well done! Also, I have guilt for laughing @ 0:24, where the gentleman is watering his television.
Plot twist: after ten minutes without his insulin injection he collapsed and died just over that hill.
He died happy tho
Nice jesussa
Jesus Christ moo
That would probably be the most desired way for him to go.
bruhhh 💀💀😂😂
1st Adidas commercial to ever make me smile, and cry a little, It speaks to us who have parents in nursing homes and makes us hope something will spark such a passion in them as those old pair of shoes did for him.
This work you created sums up our human spirit and what it means to be valued. Thank you for creating this!
0:24 hmmm my TV is so dry....let's watering it!
I really thought that was flowers. Never paid much attention. Credits for you!! 🤣
Bravo!! Best commercial I have seen in a long time.
Just came across this 7 years too late. What a beautiful piece of work. Id genuinely watch a series if it was as heart felt as this letting people have little victories!
If Adidas ignored this masterpiece, then I'd never buy you good.
damn this is fucking amazing.. whoever created this clip should get awarded for this. Short but so touching at the same time. Good use of soundtrack too !
Love it. Nothing like conflict to make a story work. My life's passion.
Eugen Merher.....thank you for your film.My grandfather died in a nursing home where they abused him.We tried to get him out but only had a restraining order placed on my mom and myself for attempting to free him.He was always trying to work with the electrical wires in the nursing home and the nurses drugged him up,wanting him to just sit and watch tv.I told her my grandpa was a man who had always worked with his hands.I cannot believe humans will throw away humans. This is so Nazism.Your short film here moved my heart so deeply.Adidas probably wouldn't touch your film because it's confrontational about nursing homes and the elderly and the mistreatment of them.I say "BRAVO!!" You did something so much greater than a shoe commercial.....you may have started another revolution for the cause of human dignity among the elderly.Nothing in this world trumps that, Sir!!
Got a BTS of this? That was marvellous.
Vel0city could you give me the link please 😂
That's what I'm asking. I don't have one. I'd like one.
Ohhh, sorry😂😂😂
If the quote about Adidas is true, someone at Adidas Comm Department should be fired... great stuff Eugen!
This touched every emotion. Beautifully done.
It does everything I read it would do: I felt sad, I cried, I became hopeful, then grateful, and finally happy. I cried from sadness, I cried in joy. Wonderful film! Thank you!
incredible video. makes addidas look like they hate the elderly. why the fuck do they ignore this. this is better then their shitty ads
appma balraj Hear Here!
I can relate to this one, I am not locked up in a mental hospital where nurses would block my way out. Yet life commitments made it extremely hard to go out for a run, and when I do, I feel like I am breaking free from a prison. Much respect to the person who created this video, I admire your talent and the message you delivered.
Amazing. Watched a thousand of times and al of them it made me cry.
this is probably one the best commercials ive seen in a while!
Good Job ? No, not good. PERFECT job !
I am literally in my office crying and it's an open office.
This brought tears to my eyes a very moving piece of work. Beautiful and inspiring!
You have no idea how much this commercial inspire me through the hardest part of my life... I finally broke free.....
This film has so much beauty, honesty and humanity.... Adidas is a slave institution with shareholders at head and profiting.... do you really want something like that to harness this kind of beauty and exploit it? Maybe we should be thanking Adidas for knowing what they are.
punkybrewstar83 A slave instution? I don't know if adidas has any outsourced sweatshop factories but the fact is, is that those factories lift people out of poverty.
LOL
Sweat shops are double edged swords, sure they're shitty but do a lot of good for the workers and economy than if they didn't have them at all, although they should start putting more work into safety and care of the workers.
punky the only gain of what you say about the Adidas company and is "slave institution lol" is the fact you are a hater and not able to do the same video and annimation like he did, and also you forgot is german that mean evrything about slave you stupid 😂
instead of that that was a good annimation 😊
Fastys Jesus Christ- if you are going to troll bitch- learn enough English to make some sense, and then actually identify what the fuck you are hating on- you are simply TOO stupid.
weeping.
much weeping.
Yes! Yes!
Freedom!!!
more tears.
the very best ad Ever.
Very moving, beautiful.
This was so beautiful. Sad, yet uplifting.
Just awesome! No more to say.
I can't help but be reminded of all the ways some humans insist on treating other humans like property, and that one day.....we all might be free of that.
tax= theft
Tax= social insurance, education, innovation, security. Its only theft if your country has a shitty social system
Bullshit, it's theft from anyone who doesn't consent.
With living in society you accept an unwritten agreement (social contract, Locke) so it is consent. If you not okay with that you can leave society and go to Central Africa or Middle East where strong goverments dosen't exist but there also no police or fire department or public health.
With every right there is a duty, you just can't take the rights an don't do your duties. Further than that the purest form of legal-rational domination is bureaucracy (Max Weber) and it feeds on taxation and monetary economy. Who gonna pay for that only the weatlhy few? That would be fair? We don't have better to this day so its better to just stick with that in my opinion.
