Excellent playing on bass clarinet! Your scales are great and you play well in all registers. Good technique in both excerpts.

Sometimes you have a pressure vibrato, perhaps from biting, but you still have good control playing. Try relaxing your embouchure a bit more. Again, nice fast technique in the fast Rose 9 etude.

Very fine playing on the bass! Keep up the good work!
I love playing the Bass Clarinet, almost as much as I love the Soprano or Contrabass Clarinet. I'm currently a high school student playing these, and I really love being in band with all my friend. What a great Clarinet world we live in, am I right Mozart?
This video is nothing like middle schooler playing flight of the bumblebee, or how to circular breath in 10 minutes. This video is an all new Clarinet video filled with so much Clarinet and fun.

Your absolutely amazing, I've been playing bass clarinet for a few years and I plan on doing it for a while
Love the Firebird, I am being leant one at the moment while we are swapping my out of tune Tosca for a Selmer. Great playing as well! And thanks for finding my channel ok UA-cam as well!!
This is very good playing, I’ve only been playing the Bass Clarinet for about 2 years and I have the same sound as you, but I have yet managed to incorporate good sound into powerful music.
Yooo congrats on HBOA!! I actually played principal bass clarinet at HBOA in 2016! I can say without a doubt you’ll have an incredible experience and meet a ton of cool and talented people. Have fun in Indianapolis!
Ah thanks so much man!! I got principal bass this year 2024 🤯crazy coincidence!! What do you do now out of curiosity?
Why am I watching this? XD I’m a flute player and I don’t even live in America. Great video nonetheless.
OMG great video I love your content
Thanks Arvind.
Thinking about audition next year so this was helpful!
Tbh this is the first time I seen most of your bass clarinet and it reminded me of something.
Anyways lol my directer has a friend whom made a new type of brand for bass clarinet and it was my first time playing on it. I think I was the 1st or 2nd to play on that brand so yeah that’s pretty cool.
Anyways again lol I love your vids
I think your fingers are there which is great but something I believe that you should focus primarily is work on your voicing in the upper register. From all my years of playing this year which is my senior and 7th year, I have finally learned the solution to all my grunts and squeaks in this vulnerable register. Doing huge interval jumps will help tremendously as you’re focusing on your throat and tongue where it is placed on the back of your mouth.
Thx for the tip mr sticks
That’s really good playing. I’m still a 2nd year bass clarinetist and I’m still trying to learn to do major scales fast and be able to remember more sharps and flats. Do you have any tips on major scales?
practice
Conquering all the major scales at once is too much IMO. I'd say just try and tackle 2 a week, and practice them together for about 20mins a day during that week. Will only take 6 weeks, and by the end you'll have really solid scales.
When you practice them to, try doing them in a variety of patterns, and go for two octaves if you can manage. Different patterns being maybe triplets, sixteenth triplets etc. whatever you fancy.
@@bassclarinetbrian 3rd year bass clarinet here, there's this good method book that I've been using to learn my scales called foundations for superior performance with everything you just described.
Question!! I am auditioning for HBOA for the next season 2025 but do u have to pick 2 pieces that are 2 minutes long or will they let you cut a piece short. Great playing btw!
What’s your mouthpiece and reed combination ? Sounds like the reed is not for that mouthpiece. (Unbalanced reed , too hard). Try a B40 with a 2,5 Legere ! Or a tenor sax Legere with that B40.
Yeah I agree, just don't really have the resources to get a better setup ATM and it's good enough to get me by.
Currently on a b50 with a 2.5 euro cut legere. When I notice it's too hard I'll dip it in some hot water and that usually makes it work pretty well. Would agree that in this recording it was too hard.
edit: also found that the max is quite a bit more resistant than other bass clarinets.
Did you ever get into All-State?
i made the jazz band maybe ill see you lol, found this vid randomly
my highschool band is going there too so might see you too
I'm debating getting either a Polaris or a firebird. I'm just urious what did you personally like more about the firebird?
dude get the new backun model q
@@pranavullas6836 I was thinking about getting one for a while but even if it's an amazing insturment it's the first time Backun has released the bass clarinet so there could be some unseen issues and I don't know the durability long term. I'll try one out hopefully in February but I trust royal more at the moment.
Why don’t you want vibrato?
Matter of personal taste. Those “purest” don’t like vibrato on clarinets unless it’s jazz or contemporary. Which is a tragedy
Lucky I auditioned for Junior All state and didnt make it
How painful are like above the staff b and a on a nicer bass luce you have
It's certainly easier to hit than some other bass clarinets I've tried, but the high notes are certainly the "butt clench" notes of the bass clarinet and they'll be "difficult" to hit on any instrument. If you're struggling there's a really good Earspasm video on how to get the high notes going hope this helps!!
the nicer the bass clarinet the easier the notes gonna be
