The race itself was very good obviously but man I had a great time listening to those guys in the booth. They were great all race long and really added an element to the 'viewing experience,' which is more few and far between in this current era of NASCAR racing. Those trio of guys had a chemistry that was tough to beat.
Well said. Obviously BP and Alan are amazing, but at the time I had wondered why they picked Wally Dallenbach to join them in the booth, but he turned out great.
im 26 but this was my era of racing. i havent really watched nascar since 2006 but this race is the one i remember the most. i was a huge ricky rudd fan, drawing the number 28 on my plate with that green heinz ketchup every sunday at my grandmas, well i was until he stopped driving that 28 car. my loyalty as a kid was in the car i guess lmao, but i remember this race so well because i have it recorded on vhs. i wasnt able to watch it for whatever reason, i assume because it was late. so my dad recorded it for me and didnt spoil it. when i got home and watched it, i was so happy with the outcome. its crazy that the one race i didnt get to see, my driver won. but i think thats why i remember it so well. the bump and run will never get old. i will forever remember this race and miss my love for nascar.
I still remember this race that save Ricky Rudd made near the end was savage. But also because this was the last race before that Black Tuesday that we well never forget 😔
Even though Ricky Rudd didn't get that championship I still believe he deserves a spot in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. I mean 906 career starts (most in modern era), 23 cup wins, 194 top 5's, 374 top 10's, 1992 IROC champion and one of the toughest men ever to drive a stock car is why I believe that the rooster deserves a spot in the hall of fame.
My Dad and I were at this race, as we were many times in Richmond. Understand, Harvick was a "sentimental" favorite since he was in the RCR car, but Ricky was one of the home town boys. When Harvick passed Ricky, the crowd turned. Ricky stayed with it and ran Harvick down. When Ricky went past, the crowd, 110 thousand strong, went bat crap crazy! You could actually hear the roar of the crowd over the roar of the cars. If you pay attention to the video, you can hear it. As a Ricky Rudd fan, it was a great night.
I've been a NASCAR fan since 1979 when I was a kid and watched the first televised Daytona 500. I was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan. Sport hasn't been the same for me since he passed but I still watch. I pull for Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. these days. I'm lucky I grew up where I could go to races at Charlotte, Rockingham, Darlington and North Wilkesboro and not have too far to drive.
Grew up a major Ricky Rudd fan. Remember this race like it was yesterday! A lot of nostalgia watching this. Hoping this man gets elected into the NASCAR HOF!
Roller Coaster Line Productions you still believe that bullshit? Your little mind can’t fathom that the government would dare to declare war on another nation just to gain resources? Attack it’s own buildings just to declare war and claim terrorism ; look up the NWO, the Illuminati
Ah I remember this race now when the 24 got taken out. I felt the same way then as I did when I just watched it 😂😡 I do love watching these classic races though
I did not like Sterling after this race lol. Then, Gordon and he collided at Daytona in '02 when Gordon ran his 200th Anniversary Dupont paint scheme... I was so heartbroken. That time Gordon came down on Sterling, which led to the infamous Red Flag repair. Wish Gordon would've won Richmond and the 500 though. They would've been epic victories.
If you pay real close attention to the cartoons, there is a lot to be learned from them..first, classical music. There are tons of classical music scores in Looney Tunes. Second, and this is missed by today's "woke" crowd is satire and sarcasm...there is so much in the cartoons that is subtle and nuanced, but with the generation we have these days...well...I think you know what I mean...
2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 with the Looney Tunes Location: Richmond, Virginia Track: Richmond International Raceway Type of race track: Short Track Starting cars: 43 Finishing cars: 37 Laps: 400 Cautions: 12 Pole Winner: Jeff Gordon (24) Most laps led: Rusty Wallace (2) (276 laps led) Race Winner: Ricky Rudd (28)
This was one of the first NASCAR races I watched as a kid. I was rooting so hard for one of the Looney Tunes cars to win that night. Imagine if Kevin Harvick ended up pulling it off. All in all, it was a great race nonetheless.
Its awesome to be able watch NASCAR on you tube " brings back memories pass races .seeing Rudd an other drivers race. Have few cars from race..monte Carlo 400
I think I was at this race. I don't remember Jeff crashing, though. I'm sure I was super bummed. Definitely enjoyed this way more watching now than being there that day as a kid lol. What a finish!
Dale JR. - Kevin got in the back of the 28 then Ricky ran through him. Umm... I think it was the other way around. Kevin ran through Ricky then Ricky showed him how to do a bump and run.
Exactly. Ricky made a crazy impossible save, then ran Kevin back down and did it the proper way. Perfect payback and Ricky's move showed more restraint than he had to.
Back in these days a team would get a good car and run it everywhere. That 14 was a very nice car. That's why drivers would get out and look at the damage not to see if they could repair it for this race but to see if it could be ran again in future races. Ron knew he tore up a really good car. He also tore up his plate car earlier that year and it was a great car too.. That team built 5 cars for 2001 and the 3 that was fast ron destroyed
So, i'm saying. That got pretty dicey out there. But now that it's over, You can't front of the fact that Ricky Rudd was just that much better than Kevin Harvick. 😎
I went to almost all Richmond races back then...but I definitely don't remember this one. One of 2 reasons I can think of...Dad wound up having to work midnights or because I had just gotten my driver's license and wanted to go driving. The racing back then was great.
Hey I got a Jeff Gordon die-cast of his DuPont Bugs Bunny Chevrolet! That is my 1st die-cast of so many that I have now. Sadly, he junked it in this race of 2001. 🏁
Pretty useless that this video cuts out the post-race interviews with Rudd and Harvick...especially given that they headline the title of the video. Alas, never fear though, they did manage to include the interview with the 3rd place finisher. Lol ridiculous

Only 3 days this race happened before 9/11 too.

Black Tuesday??? 😮

Add rookie of the year to that.
Wow . This is great information that I didn't know . Thanks!

Alan Bestwick was great. And racecar drivers used to have cool names like Buckshot Jones.
D B And Dick Trickle, 😂
44:50 “Restart Lap 1116”
What a Race that would be if it went that Long!
This happened in a pre 9/11 world. The Tuesday after this race the world would never be the same.
Roller Coaster Line Productions you still believe that bullshit? Your little mind can’t fathom that the government would dare to declare war on another nation just to gain resources? Attack it’s own buildings just to declare war and claim terrorism ; look up the NWO, the Illuminati
The world went to hell after 9/11

Jeff Gordon says that's his favorite paint he ever drove. I loved it too. Too bad Sterling Marlin fat fingered the corner. 😡🤬
It's an interesting time capsule. It's a race that took place before 9/11 and just registers as a distinct different era than anything after it.
Love it, I remember Rudd and harvick going back and forth that race. That year Rudd and Wallace were so strong at Richmond and Bristol .
I’m also Darren, and I also love it

the first "where did he come from" for Harvick followed by the most amazing save lmao

Hundred thousand on their feet at Richmond. God I miss those days
Half the Grandstands are now not there any more
The very first nascar race I ever watched
Its awesome to be able watch NASCAR on you tube " brings back memories pass races .seeing Rudd an other drivers race. Have few cars from race..monte Carlo 400
Back when showing a 1/4 lap at best from the in-car camera was evidently sufficient.
I think I was at this race. I don't remember Jeff crashing, though. I'm sure I was super bummed. Definitely enjoyed this way more watching now than being there that day as a kid lol. What a finish!
I sat off T4 for this race. One of the best I’ve been to and my first trip to Richmond.
Thanks NASCAR for the upload.
My First Night Race
Such a great race! Thanks for the upload!
I Would Love To See More Classic Races
man Rusty had this race won that adjustment he called for at the end really screwed his car up.
Dale JR. - Kevin got in the back of the 28 then Ricky ran through him.
Umm... I think it was the other way around. Kevin ran through Ricky then Ricky showed him how to do a bump and run.

This race happened Saturday September 8th 2001. Little did we know what would happen 3 days later our world would change. 😢
Benny Parsons knows.

YES! I was hoping this one would be here.
Where is the Interview with Ricky ? Bummer
My favorite driver won at my favorite track. It was a good night.
Weird that this has post race interviews for Dale Jr and Dale Jarrett, but not for the Winner and 2nd place finishers.
That team Conseco hat would be a cool throwback cap to wear
Everytime rusty amd Jeff got 1 and 2 during the race it use too make me nervous man can’t beat that Bristol rivalry
I love Nascar their so cool and fast

Ricky Rudd: I’m Hunting Victowy Wane. Ha Ha Ha Ha
You’re gonna Eat my chocolate It’s a Looney Tunes reference, which was a theme to this race
@@kuma6572 that's how one of the Looney Toons characters, Elmer Fudd (the dimwitted hunter in Bugs and Daffy cartoons) talked, man.

Jr. was just too nice during his career... He could've got 2nd place if he had also did the bump n run on Harvick when there was 3-4 laps to go...
@nascar so what's the name of the race? Im sure sponsors would love to be included. An original date as well. Year...

what the heck they never interviewed ricky

A long time ago
So long ago that Bill Elliot, Dave Blaney and Joe Nemechek have all retired and their sons are now racing in this series.
It’s only 19 years ago yet so much has changed. Crazy.
Back when Nascar was actually fun...
No matter why Ricky Rudd drove like the Intimidator and gave a payback to Harvick.
NASCARSI Fan😉🤓🙀😐
This was a very looney race
