He was in a band called Tribulation which is where I first saw him. His stage presence for them was a sight to behold. The way he moved around the stage whilst playing guitar was hypnotising. Shame he left them. I like his solo stuff but prefer him within Tribulation.
Love him! Since discovering him last week...(through Nessa's suggestion for the patron poll... Thank You!) Been diving in since - and got moved to tears more than once from his gorgeous songs, performances and videos! However happy my own suggestion (Gentle Giant) winning the poll made me, this random selection made me even happier❣️ So glad you enjoyed it in full Bryan! Flawless analysis 👌 Jonathan Hultén actually performs alone, with acoustic guitar and his own pre-recorded harmonies. May sound poor in theory, but he's a fantastic performer! (Btw, Knots by Gentle Giant had quite a bit of á capella)
We don't get enough folk music on the channel and this was a really good example of the genre. Very simple, but extremely tonally, aesthetically, and emotionally effective. There's always something about the intimacy of folk that really pulls me in and makes every note and change seem more significant. I think it's how big a role silence plays... there's so much space around each note it makes every one feel more important. Great example of the week's themes too with those awesome harmonies really adding to the overall effect.
Completely agree about the importance of space. It's something we don't hear too often on the channel given the constant riffing going on in most rock/metal. But this song, and possible Folk in general, understands the power of the rest.
Been listening to this album a lot since it came out, I'm another who knew of him from Tribulation (who I still enjoy). Good stuff, think this is the only reaction I've seen of him.
I stumbled over Jonathan back in 2020 when the album featuring this song was released, and I've been hooked ever since. If you enjoyed this I highly recommend checking out the rest of the album. For the theme, the songs Next Big Day and The Call to Adventure were the other songs I had in contention when I made the suggestion, but really nearly all the songs feature stellar vocal harmonies, almost impossible to go wrong with this guy. Ostbjorka Brudlat is for instance an a capella track with very similar vibes to the soundtrack to Ronja Rövardotter (Ronja Robbersdaughter), if you're familiar with the IP. My favourite song is however Where Devils Weep - it features less vocal harmonies, but the lyrics has really stuck with me. It's about dealing with grief by confronting the darkness in your heart and embracing it, which leads to overcoming it and moving forward strengthened by it (it also has a fantastic music video, by the way). I'm not gonna pretend I get the lyrics to The Mountain, but in a way I feel similar themes from what I just described in The Mountain and also in The Call to Adventure. Exploration of the unknown and going on the journey of life seems to be common themes throughout the album. It's all very introspective, and really, therapeutic I would say. So happy you did this suggestion, Bryan! Jonathan Hultén is such a treasure, and he really deserves the exposure.
@@progperljungman8218 That's right, I am! It's awesome to see several people really digging this suggestion. And I bet you'll repay me soon enough. I've noticed on Patreon we seem to have pretty similar taste in music. If I'm not mistaken I'm quite sure you got me into Seven Impale for instance!
You've quickly become one of my favorite UA-camrs since I discovered this channel. Thanks for the great content. Also, can we get a Glitch music week? You need to check these out: Edit - Ants Mr. Bill - screening (2 parts); klaf ill gates - cthulu Skrillex - try it out (black ops remix) RIOT - aiwa
I once watched a video in which a game dev says "give me an inch that's a mile deep over a mile that's an inch deep" and i think that's what Jonathan has done with this song
Yes! I have the new album in my listen list. I saw his boiler room "concert" a couple of years ago and was enthralled with his dedication for physicality in this electronic music.
I haven't heard vocal harmonies this smooth since Fleet Foxes. I think this has potential to become a new favourite.
Hòly Woods,And Ĺeaving are aŕè wonderful,Aĺso. Just beautiful
