Always put new head bolts in mate.
Old ones can be stretched and wont torque down properly

Thanks for your advice, these are the non-stretch type. There are two types.

also looking forward to seeing your process for replacing the rocker cover and gasket on the Pinto, something i'll be doing for the first time soon but surprisingly no vids on YT that show that i can find...

Hi it’s a simple job. It’s a cork gasket that I like apply a thin layer of oil too on both sides so it fits the rocket cover nicely, then line up all the holes on the head. It’s important not to overtighten so not to compress it too much which can cause leaks. Not sure what the torque setting is off top of my head. I didn’t make a video of it unfortunately. The car is back together and running, just in storage right now

hi,ive never taken a head off so watching you do it then i think i will give it a go..is it essential you have a torque wrench to tighten it back down? and do you have to replace all the gaskets with new ones? can you use all the old bolts ?

Hi thanks for your message. Yes you will need a torque wrench and you will need to find out the torque settings for your engine, if it’s a standard pinto you can use the settings I provided during the video I produced of putting the head back on. Yes you always need to put a new gasket on, there are many different types and thicknesses so make sure you have the right one. You will need to work out if you bolts are the earlier stretch type, these always need replacing. If they are splined bolts with 12 splines they can be reused
