- Inspired by an old quilt...I am trying to make a similar quilt. Old quilts often use a LOT OF BROWN!
This block is called "Pavement Pattern". Blocks are 9" x 9" UNfinished.

Gorgeous! I have an old Wedding ring quilt from the 30s on which all of the brown pieces just disintegrated. I was able to repair by patching in brown vintage fabric but it was interesting to me that it was just the brown. A quilt scholar told me that this happens because brown pigments were more acidic. Brown old quilts are precious. I love yours here 💜
I never thought a brown quilt could look so lovely. Thx again Beth for hilighting a color that is not often a favorite. It's beautiful and ilike the pattern too

Ms. Beth it fascinates me to see how you slap together, push through the machine , and wind up with gorgeous quilts. I spend what seems like an eternity trying my hardest to line things perfectly straight, pin, clip check and recheck, and s t i l l wind up with lopsided blocks.😩 🤦🏻♀️😤 Yours are my joy to see.😍🙏
Me, too! I think I finally figured it out, though. If I use a walking foot, all the blocks magically fit together. It's a bit clunky, but it has made a big difference because both top and bottom fabric are pulled through more equally. Every now and then, I go back to a regular foot because the loud sound of the walking foot is annoying, but they just don't line up as well.
@@NannaLiz Thank you Ms. Liz. Walking foot, check! Do they have a Flintstone type wheel chair foot?🤭 I’d do perfect with that for sure!
That came out so pretty. The colors and prints complement each other so well. You have a “good eye” for fabrics mixing well together.

So pretty. I love the thirties quilts. I had a lovely quilt, very similar❤, made by a cousin and aunt of my late mother in law. They made it in 1929. Unfortunately it was destroyed in a home fire. Things happen in one’s long lifetime- thank goodness for cheery, comforting quilts.
Just a note on the color brown. I love it! It makes a quilt feel warm and cozy. Quilts with brown remind me of woods and my pets through the years!

Beth, this is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. I love the "super crisp" looking show quilts for sure, they have appeal, but what you have created here is what I would describe as like a cottage quilt. It's something you would see in storybooks, something I would cuddle up with on a spring Saturday morning. I think the colour and shape is just perfect. If anyone out there wants to make me a replica, I will be more than happy to accept hahahah

LOVE this! Make all the brown quilts you want because this is so pretty! My grandmother had "Quilting Bee" quilts that were lovely, but when we spent the night at grandma's house it was quilts like your "old style" quilts that covered us at night. They were plain and loved. So many were piled on us we could barely move! Another on my list! Thank you!

This block looks a lot like the Angle Jewels block. You are correct. The browns do make it look much older than it is.
Love your blocks with sashing and cornerstones! Appreciate your relaxed approach to quilting. The minor variations in handcrafted quilts gives them a liveliness and adds to their charm.

Why do I love this quilt? I have only used brown in a couple of fall quilts and I rarely use it for kids' quilts. But this one makes me think of more pleasant times, less on edge than these days. Thanks!

I love brown quilts❤another great job Beth. Reminds me of the other old fashioned brownish quilt from 4 months ago, 0ld World something.. that one is still on my mind. These vintage styles, colors just speak to me. The new modern bright fabrics do not. I’m also glad you decided to sash the block, I like it a lot. (KH)

I have been so inspired by your relaxed way of creating beautiful things. I started these blocks with a color theme in mind, but ran out of colors in my stash. I have now drifted toward a totally scrapy colored quilt. Will figure out a layout after all the blocks are done. Hopefully a good choice for the shashing will pull this all together. I have completed 18 blocks .This is such fun!

I’ve been quilting for 30 years and never seen that triangle technique of folding the center square in half both ways so that you see the cross in the middle. It’s genius, and so quick!
