When Mini 4 Pro faces the subject and follows it, it will automatically rise to avoid danger caused by being too close to the subject. If the set distance exceeds the safety distance, it will not rise. You can have a try. When it rises automatically, obstacle avoidance still works, but it is necessary to avoid some small branches and other scenes that are not easily detected by the visual sensor😁
Thanks for taking the time to clearly explain this. I was getting frustrated trying to get active track to work the way I thought it should. Now I know how to properly use active track. I love the active track feature.
I’m not sure it’s a bug more a miss information issue as it’s better have both options if you know how it works. However, a software fix should be implemented for the obstacle avoidance not working when accidentally or purposely clicking on the screen.
Salut !
I’ve said to so many people I was super worried I didn’t get across what I meant it’s a lot to unpack but yeah thanks you for the kind words! Sorry I’ve not had chance to watch yours yet I’ve had a busy fortnight hence no videos u Tim this one! Hope you’re all well!
@@GAVINHR hahaha No hurry man. It’s the thought that counts anyway, right???? Lol. I know you’re a busy man. I mean. You basically have 2 full time jobs now so it’s all good. I may have messed up on the last one anyway. Haha. What’s new???
Great video @GAVINHR which leads me to wonder, how does it measure the height it goes to, is it from the ground or is it from the home point. If the latter then a whole lot more problems arise when you walk around hills.
Thank you Gavin. Yes yes totally see it, Mine does that too. I got to hit the pause button because, It completely ignores the sensors like everything you said agreed 100%. So far with the active track, I have noticed if you set your circle parameters close to each other. That kinda makes it less erratic. It also freaks out if it loses the subject and I don't like that either. There's definitely a glitch though. We need a firmware update, but I'm confident it'll be soon.
I've had my DJI Mini 4 Pro for a month now. Could anyone help with some issues I've been experiencing. I'd really appreciate it. 1. Active track is really struggling to work at all. I select a subject and it just cancels straight away. Could this be because of D-Log? 2. Even after following instructions on youtube Subject tracking is still greyed out. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, it just isn't an option. I never had this problem with my mini 3 pro. PLEASE HELP
So there are several flaws. Ignoring the sensors when rising to preset altitude: I would call that a bug. Control is inconsistent and badly documented. Even with the knowledge I have from your video it doesn't make 100% sense. There should be a way to always maintain height (i.e. drawing) or change height (tapping). Now it is mixed (when switching to the other circle) and thats counter intuitve.
Same thing happened to me!!! On the DJI air 3... It started rising and went into some branches broke all of my props... Luckily that was the only damage... But it sure pissed me off😞...
I haven’t owned the M4P long enough to comprehend any of this😂😂. I’m lost. Once I get more experience I’ll come back to this because it’s seems to be of importance pertaining to the tracking wheel. I get what you’re talking about though but I’m just a noob😂
Thanks for this gavin, which is a big floor. I did watch your video, and I see the obstacle avoidance going crazy yet it didn't do its job kind of worrying. I tell you what I noticed today as well using the mini 4 I flew it out with my home point updated, and then I moved my position, so I updated my home point, thinking it would come back to my new position but it actually went to where the drone was when I updated the home point and tryed to land on a roof. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought the drone should come back to me and where the controller was when I updated, but it actually went to the roof where it nearly landed. Might be just me, not understanding, lol.anyway, thanks for sharing, and this is something we should definitely be aware of. 😁👌👍 🇬🇧
It happened to me. I broke my left arm on the front. And I had to drown 2 months. I'm really. I thought it was a great drone I didn't get the coverage. I should have on my first started it but
I posted on the forums that I noticed when you switch from Metric mode to Imperial mode, all measurements are in Feet except the Active Tack altitude, those stay in meters. The minimal circle and maximum circles are in feet, so why not altitude? I feel it's likely a scripting error that's involved and I'm not sure if it is related to what happens here, but I can't discount it.
Great explainer video. Knowing this will make operation much more reliable. I've been out experimenting/learning the techniques you describe. I love my DJI products but every now and then there is something incomplete or even absent in the manual. Another example is the function of the Battery Information in the Fly app, you must press the battery to see the other very real battery levels. It is one small notch better in the Mini4 manual than the Mini3 manual.
So it does say you can "Tap" the "Dots" but what if you tap in between the dots - Page 31 of Owners Manual - In Trace mode, there will be a trace wheel in the camera view. The dots on the trace wheel indicate different tracking directions. The tracking direction can be changed by tapping the dots or dragging the tracking direction icon to any other dot on the trace wheel. The aircraft will fly to the selected tracking direction based on the green flight route shown on the trace wheel. The aircraft's current position, end position/tracking direction, and flight route can be viewed on the trace wheel. The tracking direction can be adjusted while tracking to fit your needs. ?
1st video where someone tapped the circle. With dozens of videos on that wheel you're the first I've seen tap rather than draw. Bug ? maybe, learning curve (get it) probably. Good information through. I know it takes a lot of time to this.
Thanks for a great video, Gavin. I was flying my mini 4 today trying to get it to track my Kubota tractor. Long story short: I crashed. No serious damage...it still flies My ego IS damaged a bit. tho. I am relatively new to drones. I want to practice using the active track so I can track my big orange Kubota tractor as we plow my very long driveway and yard.... I have trees around and of course, I flew into one today (if it's there...I will find it). I intend to watch your video again and try to understand what you are saying. We just got this new active track upgrade... I'm wondering if it will help me avoid another crash. All I want is for the drone to stay a constant distance and take pretty videos and photos. Nothing fancy. I'm hoping I can master this before we get our first snowstorm. Thank you!
That's interesting. I haven't even played with this stuff yet. What I did find was since I do mostly Photos I assigned a quick button as the AE lock. I was doing some stuff inside in atti mode and when I hit the AE Lock the drone went up 2 feet and moved forward about 3 feet. Freaked me right out.
It's strange that drawing to the inner circle maintains the manually chosen altitude, but drawing to the outer circle doesn't. Wouldn't it be better if tapping to either circle selects the preset altitudes, and drawing to either circle maintains the manual altitude?
WOW...that is a huge issue. Great that you can call our attention to thus situation. I hope YOU have popped of a memo to DJI as well. Super content here.
Does seem a bit odd, obstacle avoidance should always be active, unless you decide (for whatever reason) to disable it. Thanks for highlighting this issue
I crashed mine when i was flying indoors. It warned me that the battery was low, and it was going to initiate RTH in 10 seconds. Well, I didn’t have time to land it, it initiated or trued to climb to 120m that I had set for RTH; problem is, I was indoors. Poor thing slammed itself multiple times into my ceiling until it hit the ground. Luckily for me, there is no visible damage. One point to note, I had disabled the obstacle avoidance indoors, which was messing it up indoors. Lesson learnt….
Seems to me like it's a safety aspect. By flying up it will ensure that if you suddenly sprint forward, it won't be in the way. Gives it time to react and be safe. Same for a vehicle.
So basically you cocked up and want to blame dji for it. Just cos you want it to do something the software isn't programmed for or, dji hadn't thought about, doesn't mean it has to be a bug. Learn from it and don't do it again. Don't expect dji to 'fix it'.
Thanks for the explanation. I believe that the biggest problem is that the drone ignored its obstacle avoidance sensors if it hadn't there wouldn't have been a crash.

I never would've figured that out , man... You did an awesome job explaining that and it made total sense... NICE!!!!

They usually do fix these things pretty quickly! Once again I think they need me as a beta tester somehow I manage to always find something!

I don't have this problem with my mini3pro😂
Haha touché! 😂
Same thing happened to me!!! On the DJI air 3... It started rising and went into some branches broke all of my props... Luckily that was the only damage... But it sure pissed me off😞...
Hello everyone. 2 months since this video was released. Was the bug fixed? I will try the tracking mode for the first time tomorrow. Wish me luck

Are you doing the new update 30/10/2023 or is it a scam ,they have excess to your software for future updates
Great video. Thanks for figuring that all out for us.
Does anyone know whether you could use the active track mode on this drone in house? To make a sort of house tour?
Can u make a video that is shorter please? On this topic? Or comment on just the steps and that’s it
Thank you for digigng into this
This kinda feels like setting RTH altitude- and how you have to turn it off if flying inside
Thanks for this gavin, which is a big floor. I did watch your video, and I see the obstacle avoidance going crazy yet it didn't do its job kind of worrying. Really appreciate you letting me know about that I think I will give that a test, very odd behaviour! Hope you’re well mate otherwise!
Hi Gav...This video is now 4 months old and DJI have released many FW updates since then...So do you get the same problem now?
That’s a great point, I will look to test this
It happened to me. I broke my left arm on the front. And I had to drown 2 months. I'm really. I thought it was a great drone I didn't get the coverage. I should have on my first started it but
But I did not so I got a broke left arm no Insurance coverage
So, if I draw on the wheel on the screen, will it avoid obstacles?

Are mini 3 pro pros compatible with mini 4?

Great info on this. Thank you. 👍🏻
Got a headache now. 😵💫
Need to watch this one again to make sure I don’t mess up.
Thanks again for sharing Gavin. 👍
Great video Gavin this will be useful for me as using this feature over the weekend😊
Oh my god that is amazing advice..
Appreciate the kind words my friend I’m glad it all made sense
Been waiting patiently for this 😊. I wonder when they will fix the chinese writing for the outer circle height value 😅
Yeah they certainly need to fix that haha!
Does seem a bit odd, obstacle avoidance should always be active, unless you decide (for whatever reason) to disable it. Thanks for highlighting this issue
Very very clear sir 😁 Thank You! You have a new Subs. 🥇
Has this been fixed yet?
Hi Gavin where is best for mini 3 pro replacement propellers?
Hi Sean, have you tried Amazon? Usually the quickest option
@GAVINHR I've looked but the ones I've looked at are none original and don't have the rubber ends they are just painted on instead.
@shaunmcgee5382 ah nightmare! Maybe try DJI direct then or places like heliguy they may have some
All too complicated for my liking, I just enjoy flying my no nonsense Mini 2 👍
You’re not wrong with that one! This took me forever to figure out
You started with bla bla bla clickbait. Yes I thought you were clickbaiting gimic at first 🤣
Well...I wasn't :)
Very handy to know and sorry that you found out the hard way
Very cool. I learned from your experience instead of crashing my mini 4 . Thank you.
Great to hear! Thank you for the feedback!
What?😂😂😂😂
👍
Valuable information thank you Gavin 🤨👍
Ahh! Understood! Thanks! 🙏
👍👍👍
Very useful, thank you 😊
A bug indeed
100%

Oh do shut up. Clearly that’s not what I’m saying. If a drone behaves in a way that’a different to the manual then it’s a bug isn’t it
I just crashed mine today using the active track... it got stuck in a tree 😢
Thanks for the explanation. I believe that the biggest problem is that the drone ignored its obstacle avoidance sensors if it hadn't there wouldn't have been a crash.
