How to Become a Welder: Advice from Empire Caterpillar's Kyle Sabers | UTI

Kyle Sabers, a welder at Empire Caterpillar, describes what prompted him to attend the Welding Technology program at Universal Technical Institute (UTI). Kyle says he has wanted to work for Empire his whole life, and he was able to make great connections with the company when they visited UTI.
After graduating from UTI in 2018, Kyle got a job at Empire and started working there just 2 months after graduation. Kyle offers advice to UTI students on how to succeed and describes how listening and asking plenty of questions to instructors helped him to succeed as a student.
Kyle explains some of the benefits of going to UTI. Students learn more than just how to weld-they learn the reasoning behind doing things. Kyle says the bookwork and education UTI offered really paid off and helped him grow his welding career.
Students in the UTI welding program master various welding techniques including Gas Metal Arc welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc welding (GTAW). Students take courses such as introduction to welding, pipe welding, welding applications, principles of welding and more.
