    It's no contest in my book-Sire! My Marcus Miller V7 5 is easily one of the best basses that I've ever played. That includes Alembic, Cirrus USA, Ken Smith, and Warwick. NO CONTEST vs. Fender!!!

      Keith Copeland I got a V7 but I’d been thinking about a Fender jaZZ ELITE. Let’s forget about price. Which one do you think is the best one?

      @@situacionando I have played a Fender Jazz bass before and I wasn't feeling it. It was too heavy and too expensive. I haven't played a Jazz Elite so I can't comment on how it plays. However, there is no way that I would spend my money on a Jazz Elite! I hope that you are able to try out a Sire MM Jazz and a Fender Jazz Elite. It's YOUR money and you need to be sure of what you're getting for the money. Again, I haven't played a Jazz Elite, but I am not convinced that it's a better bass than my Sire MM Jazz!

    I just bought a Sire Marcus Miller V7 5 string. It is absolutely my favorite bass I've ever played on. The pre-amp is insane, I've never found another bass that sounds that clean on active pick ups. Also the fret board feels amazing, they managed to keep a five string bass feeling tight so yeah, Sire is amazing!

    I agree with you 100 percent on the active electronics. Ive got two basses at the moment, and both of them are active. I had a Fender MIJ jazz with passive electronics. I sold it after a few months. I loved the look and the feel of it, but after getting used to my 3 band eq Sting Ray i can't get over the tone shaping capabilities of the active eq. I haven't gotten my hands on a Sire yet, but im definitely looking into buying one. Thanks for the info brotha man!

    Great video , dig your content!
    Ok I’ve had a rollercoaster affair with Sire , been playing them since 2015 and was one of the first on my scene gigging with one. Fast forward to now and 3 Sire’s later…
    1st Gen Sire V7 5 string Ash - Neck issues and 2 luthiers later.. cost me $$$’s and still couldn’t get low action without fret buzz… After going back and forth and being persistent Sire sent a Gen 2 neck in 2019 , Holy smokes what a difference! I also got replacement tuners second gen from Sire , So Sire customer service is very good! Finally my O.G. Bass was in prime shape!
    I loved the preamp so much that I bought a second hand Sire Alder V7 5 string (circa 2017) , that one was good Action/neck wise , it became my number 1 bass . But then the preamp died about a year later , then I contacted Sire and told them I needed a new preamp , they sold me one.
    In 2022 I bought my 3rd and final Sire , the V5 4 string , absolutely loved that roasted 2nd gen neck… It was great! But… the pots were crackling like crazy until they gave out! And it was only within 3 weeks of my V5 purchase…
    So in my personal experience , I’ve had nothing but bad luck with Sire basses.. it’s a shame because I’ve spent a lot of money fixing all 3 basses so far…
    Are they a good buy ? I’d say buyer beware of possible QC issues. They sound great and the 2nd gen necks are great, especially the roasted necks! Unfortunately for me , it’s the end of the Sire road! You may ask why buy a 3rd Sire after all the issues… well I kept hearing that the QC has come a long way from the first gen back in 2015, So I took a chance.
    I will drop a Audere preamp on the V5 and fix it once and for all…. Oh … just remembered to mention that one of the nut slots was cut too low on the V5….. another nail in the coffin! It was buzz city right after I changed the original strings on the V5 💔
    Positives: Great Tone, Great 2nd Gen necks
    Cons: For me Quality Control

    So, I bought Sire V7 5 string ash maple in sunburst finish. I bought it used but it came basicaly new and in pristine condition. Of all the basses I have, and I have 3, this one is the best bass I ever bought. Now, I can settle for a while and enjoy playing a nice bass. Other than that, I am now in a search for a nice fretless 4 string or a 5 string that I would put high C string on.

    Excellent point of view. I'm just learning about the Marcus Miller Sire line. I'm impressed! I was at the music store looking Music Man Sterling basses but I just didn't like the sound, for some reason. Next, I tried some Fender Precision Player basses and Squires and they felt pretty lame, almost low quality. I randomly picked up a Sire Marcus Miller 5-string like the one in the video and it felt great and sounded awesome. I think I'm going to try to play some more and see.

    Gotta agree. I recently bought a V7 Vintage 2nd gen, and this bass is just phenomenal. I have no real comparisson to a real Fender, cause i only owned entry level guitars, but i gotta say, and i heard it a lot from other people, it plays, feels, sounds and looks way more expensive. And i totally understand that a Fender bass with similar Specs just might cost double or triple of a Sire bass. You pay for the Name, for Made in America, for the knowledge and pioneership and for the Magic of having a Fender. I understand why you would want a Fender. Its just THE brand for Bass guitars with so much tradition and history. I myself would love to have an american made vintage P Bass and its completely irrational but there's just something about it, plain, simple magic but too expensive.

Now I may consider another Sire.

    Here’s my gripe with Fender: being left handed, and I know we’re few and far between, Fender has 0 options by way of 5 string basses for lefties. I’d love to play and support Fender basses and I love my P but needing a 5 string for modern country, I really appreciate the features and quality of the Sire.

    • @bigbass421
      @bigbass421 2 роки тому

      I, too am a lefty bassist. I'm also a Luthier and repairman, for over 40 years. I make my own basses, but I do not make Fender clones/ spinoffs. There's literally dozens of makers doing that already. Most are seriously expensive. I also play gigs, where people would prefer the sound and look of a Fender. I have many Fender basses, some are parts combinations, and some are Squiers. All of them play and sound killer.. Being a Luthier has definite advantages. I've worked on many Sire basses. There are two things I do not like about them so much- the weight, and the typical factory standard 1-3/4" nut spacing. My 5's are 2", 2.125," and 2.25" nut widths.
      That said, these Sire basses are absolutely the best made, best sounding instruments in this price range- so impressive, that I'm just about to order a lefty Lake Placid Blue V7 5 string. A 3-6 month wait. But a killer sounding bass for well under a grand, is something that's hard to believe, until you actually see and play one.

    I owned a sire and the preamp was amazing. But the thing that lets them down is the finishing and the hardwear. On the bass I had (a V7) the gearing on one of the tuners shredded the first time i changed a string. The bridge was a bit cheap and poor quality as well. I took the scratchplate off and the pick up routing was really rough (although you wouldnt normally see it). On the ither hand the problem with fenders is you pay a lot of money for a basic instrument. I think the prices of US bases is way too high. I now play an active 5 string Ibanez and i'm happy with it.

    • @whamni
      @whamni 5 років тому

      Same thing here, but the pre amp failed on my V7, thankfully when still in guarantee, but after that, the bridge started to act up and I discovered a saddle spring was broken for the G string, so I changed the bridge for a Gotoh (far better bridge), Oh the truss rod was not well made in as much I just about got the hex key in the hole to adjust neck relief.
      Funny thing I never had any trouble with the tuners, yet !
      No matter what make you get, I'm sure there will always be a few to slip through QC, I still have the bass but I never play it !

    Price and quality wise Sire/Marcus Miller basses really beat Fender hands down. I recently purchased a Sire/Marcus Miller bass and took it to my tech and HE commented on the bass was well maid. So just go to show,much like the PRS SE models you CAN make a quality product and the price still be reasonable. Great Sire and Marcus Miller and Great post.

    Good points Bro. For me, and with price in mind, Sire gets it done. A well made bass that's affordable, plays well and then seal the deal with a Sweet preamp already loaded. Hard to get more than they're giving at the price that they're giving it. Just my opinion.

    I watch a lot of "Bully's" content and today I finally went to Anderson's in Guildford UK to trial a Sire. The M2 2nd Gen 5 string - Maple fingerboard and same colour as Allen's. I almost got a parking ticket (forgot how long I was in there playing it). For sure this is going on my Christmas list. Weight and feel is great. I normally havr issues with slap tone on my basses. First hit was perfect on M2 and it just kept coming. I need humbuckers because single coils pick up hearing loop in our church. I felt bad for my other basses - would they get a look in when I get one of these? To be fair the Spirit XT25 I have has low output. Never seems to get correct gain setup from front of house. I am confident this M2 will have some punch. Having said all this I recalled I had a new set of double ball end and once I out this on the Spirit I could slap it. So the stock strings are just rubbish - unlike the M2. If I had a criticism the pots feel loose. But that preamp, the rolled edges and maple fingerboard are just awesome. Really good bass in my experience

    @nazhgul1928 5 років тому +3

    I think you inflated the price of American standards by at least 700 bucks , because even a deluxe 5 string is 1500 in some stores. I think the only way to differentiate these basses is which sounds are you looking for. I someone wants to emulate Marcus , of course Sire is the way. I've played all models on gigs and the V7 vintage works for me, but for recordings and all of that jazz, I go for my fender deluxe. That's the only thing that separates Sire against Fender. Down here in South America this isn't the case ,since a V7 can cost you about 8 to 900 , and we're talking about 1st gen.
    That being said, Sire does cut corners really well , and the only thing I would change of the bass is the tunners. The overall bass is already heavy and on the first gen they used sub par tunners once they spread the word out about that particular model. So yeah, if you want to sound like Marcus without getting 2 stage preamps and all the rest of the gear, go for it, but I rather sound like myself hahaha.

      I’ve also directed this question to several other bass gear-centric YT channels and discovered that there are a few other bass gear reviewers on YT that definitely have brand biases and come off as pretentious snobs when reviewing the lower priced, value-added brands like Sire, Squier, Rondo Music’s offerings like the Ursa and Harley Benton.
      You’re definitely not one of those pretentious fellows. You’re a straight shooter in my book.

    I bought a 5 string Sire P7 however I had quality issues with mine. The fretwork was bad, my pickup was loose, the knobs were not well placed and this made it hard to turn the tone/volume and other stacked knobs. So I definitely did not have the experience of playing right out of the box. I mean sure I did play it but it was frustrating with fret buzz, and the bad knobs. However, after taking it to a shop to get it properly setup and adjusted it played beautifully. I got the my tuning set to EADGC instead so I had the nut changed. The preamp is a beast and I do hope that now that they're in 2nd gen that they have better quality assurance.
    I also purchased a musician stingray 5 H (BEADG tuning) for a different tone and sound but both of these basses I use for different purposes.
    I still recommend Sire, but definitely take them to a shop to get looked at in case some additional work can be done. After getting mine setup and adjusted it played like an entirely different instrument. Also I really wish they would change the branding on the headstock. In my opinion the logo is just ugly but that's more of an aesthetic touch.

      the only two i can think of that is somewhat comparable and more budget friendly is the Luna tattoo... for 200 and the ibanez talman bass for 179 (249 for the 5 string). The luna is passive and the talman is an active pj bass. Other than that i dont think so...
