Perfect video! Answers what I have been asking about recip saw. Bonus points for the amazing practical demo especially cutting of the masonry nail and the metal. Gave a thumbs up!
I have an MPT reciprocating cordless saw that came w/o a manual. Your video is the only one out of a dozen I searched via YT that spends a moment showing how to insert the blade so it locks in place. THANKS A MILLION! I was so frustrated and almost shipped mine back.
I love reciprocating saws. I've used my uncle's when helping renovate his house and build his addition and I've borrowed it a few times. Although I've used them before, I just bought my first one today. I'm about to renovate my and my grandma's kitchen. I wish I would have had it the other day when I cut a hole in the wall for a new outlet( a jigsaw and files are hard to work with on beaded wall panels). I'll also have many jobs for it in my workshop.
Hahahaha, demolishing that drill at the end was epic. Thanks for the heads up on the differing blades. I just bought my first reciprocating saw last week, due to the amount of pallets I go through. Have a fantastic weekend mate.
I was just cutting 5/8" threaded rod yesterday with my grinder. Never thought of using my reciprocating saw. Heading to Canadian Tire tonight to get a metal cutting blade since i have more rod to cut. This video was a nice coincidence.
I got it on sale, they had 2 blades for 9$, or a big multi pack for 26$. The multi pack has over 20 blades, metal, wood, pruning, demolition. So I got the pack.
Interesting video and calm voice, and i learned something. I have a 118 year old outhouse/barn im gonna tear down this summer and now i know i need a reciprocating saw! Thank you!
I do not have a reciprocating saw yet but I can see it as a very useful tool to take pallets apart. And cutting steel rod with it looks good. Today I did some pieces with an angle grinder (as usual) but because of the sparks you have to be dressed like a mummy. Not very pleasant with tropical temperatures outside. Thanks for sharing the video. It is very useful.
I just bought a dinosaur sawzaw it's a craftsman 6.2 amp and it's got the Sears logo on it and it's corded and MAN is that thing a BEAST I got it for 15 bucks plus the craftsman case it goes with at a antique/flea market what a treasure the Lord blessed me with it already changed the landscape of my home already I used it to get some funky business this mass of trees was doing on my fence cut out fast i had been digging and manually sawing roots and the stuff that grew into the fence like literally a whole tree grew in such a way where it literally had the fence perfectly running through the exact middle of the tree for like a year and got a lot done but over a large span of time ...in less than one hour it did more than what i could to going atmit the way i had been doing it get a sawzaw even if it's just going to collect dust you will find something to use it for
I just purchased a 15 amp Milwaukee Orbital SawZall ($199.99 + tax) to remove tile adhesive using scrapers that came with one adapter for use with this saw. Well, the part of the adapter that goes into the shank quickly broke and I had to disassemble the shank to remove the broken piece. Now, it turns out that this tool is not design for this type of work. So now, I am trying to find out what to do with this tool. Use it on what? Watching your video gave me some ideas. Thank you for your time and sharing you knowledge.
Here is the problem with getting old, one tends to forget the names of items. In my case it is a blade for the saw that has teeth on all edges. It has a curved tip so with care you can cut straight through without a hole as a guide. Similar to a jig saw. The best saw is the Porter Cable with the revolving and tilting head. I obtained one a few years back on Ebay, nothing better. Went to a job hanging doors in Kansas City one week and while there I stopped all workers including the Foreman when I let another carpenter borrow my Porter Cable reciprocating saw. They were amazed with the saw and the power it had. I don't see them anywhere today for some reason but mine still works great. I was told it was to be in the will when I pass.
Thank you i have used the riciprocating saw to cut the leaf of date palm tree from its base which it is 25 cm width and 6 cm thick it was very good i have boat in 2005 from sweden it was Black and Diker the blade lenth 25 cm width 5 cm
I'm new in DIY wood works. I just bought a hikoki circular saw but I feel no confident to use it. So I thought I want to change it to recipicating saw as I feel I'm ok with it. My question is, can I use recipicating saw for my wood work projects? I know the cut is not that clean like a circular saw but I feel more confident using it.
I have a question if we cut the bone of an animal what you suggest, will you recommended this saw. if yes which blade you recommended for use to cutting the bone.
The drill was an educational sacrifice...maybe not quite the same as a donor...I'm sure there was no more purpose in it. Is there a PETA group for power tools as well?
Nice review. It would have been nice however, the name the specific blades you used, and Link them in your description. It's always helpful for viewers when you link specific products you test. Thanks.
Any hints on how to remove a stuck blade? I have a saw that won't release the blade when you rotate (not 'twist') the locking collar. Not ideal. :( Sprayed light oil into and around the mechanism but nothing gives. I can't quite envisage what the insides does. Thx.
thank you. funny story on disk grinders i was a motor machinists at the time it was a friday in aug . south texas as i was grinding away on a piece i noticed it became some what hotter . well my dirty apron was on fire from the sparks . well it was friday and it was kinda of dirty , oily so . yes sparks from a grinder will start fires .
I have a Milwaukee CORDED recip saw, great saw but the blade chuck is the allen wrench type, such a pain plus the cord. I'm buying a battery recip saw now with the easy blade chuck.
You should have mentioned removing blade from the saw after use is a great safety tip. I dropped my Porter Cable at the Bosses place and he put saw in the case but left the blade sticking out the case. Of Course he screamed and yelled at me when he picked me up for work as he had taken tools out of truck and happened to walk into the blade that was sticking out. It was a new sharp blade and since he had on flip flops in the garage it cut the hell out of his foot. Hint Ebay used to be great place to get good price on blades.
I’ve tried different blades yet my Ryobi reciprocating saw and jigsaw shake so much when I use them. It’s here just cutting through 2 x 4s yet ever video I watch people are cutting effortlessly. What am I doing wrong?
You know what......I want you to see how well this blade cuts through.......hmmmmm..... what else do I have in here that I want to buy an updated version.....
The metal cutting blades are nice. They're flat and wide and made of good hard steel. They can be remade into knives. Some people will even make handles that utilize the quick-install like on the tools. side-note: you didn't mention the shoe adjustment feature many recipsaws have. The blade tends to wear down more near the show so it often be adjusted to add wear in other spots along the blade.
I have the Bosch version of that Hackzall. I bought it because I thought it would be good for trimming tree branches - what a waste of money. The stoke is so short that the blade is always clogged with whatever it is you are cutting. It might be good for things like PVC pipe, but I literally never use mine.
Sorry, was busier earlier, but yep, I think Woody is still giving away his woodworking book, but I'm not so sure. I managed to get it go'ogling Woody Hyezmar, and was surprised to see his "Woodworking Bible" up for grabs, hope this helps.
Yep, I can see how easy it's so easy to get swamped with wood crafting stuff, so many great ideas. For an impressive collection that has it all, just go’ogle the stuff in Woody Hyezmar's Woodworking Bible which he is giving away as of today.
Yes, I didn't make it back to the pruning blade ... not too much to say about them, sorry to hear yours didn't cut I have not had that problem ... actually the ones I have used have been amazingly quick in cutting through branches and small trees
@@knecht105 Considering getting some Bosch 240mm long 'wood' blades, very course and open like a bow saw blade designed for cutting green wood/branches. Does the stroke of the saw limit its cutting efficiency? I'm looking at an inexpensive (aka cheap!) but reasonably powerful mains operated saw with a 20mm stroke length. Is that typical or short? Thanks for the video 👍.
This is how you do something really simple of something what would likely be hard. Remembers me about Woody Hyezmar’s Woodworking Bible which you can try go’ogling, have a good one!
I was looking for a way to saw my drill in half. You rock.
Good info - especially description of blades. Thanks!

Have a fantastic weekend mate.
Thanks for watching Bill!
Thanks for the video. Great point about the sparks in cutting metal w/ a grinder vs the reciprocating saw.
you are an excellent educator !!!
you scaffolded the information PERFECTLY.
THANK YOU.
Just looking into buying a reciprocating saw, this video really helped in my decision. Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching Scott.
Fantastic tool, I've seen quite a few people use these to help dig out tree stumps so I think I'm going to give it a try.
I was just cutting 5/8" threaded rod yesterday with my grinder. Never thought of using my reciprocating saw. Heading to Canadian Tire tonight to get a metal cutting blade since i have more rod to cut. This video was a nice coincidence.

Very revealing. I never would have thought of using a reciprocating saw on rebar.
I have used those blades for years I was in home building so that started me & I still use it for different things. I`d hate to do without it
Yes, they are time savers for the right application
Nice to learn with you sir
Thanks, that was enlightening about how I'm gonna use my new old reciprocating saw, bought second hand.
Nice review, luv those Diablo blades
never thought of needing one of those saws.... till i watched this. great vid as always
Thanks for watching Tivasa!
Thanks man saved us getting a new saw
Good learning video. Thanks.
Great video as usual Colin! Now I will have to head out & pick up one of those. You owe me................. :) Steve
Thanks Steve!
Very informative, Colin.
Glad you liked it Steve!

Thank you for de-mystifying saw blades! Now I get it...

Great saw for cabinet work! Hehe.
Well, works great for removing cabinets 😉
Which blade is best overall for smaller to medium branches that are strewn everywhere in my yard? Thx!

Yup, grinders can be trouble at times! Thanks for watching.
great video, well done!

Diablo blades!!!
I have a Milwaukee CORDED recip saw, great saw but the blade chuck is the allen wrench type, such a pain plus the cord. I'm buying a battery recip saw now with the easy blade chuck.
Joe Brown if you can try and get the combo pack from Home Depot it's the m18 sawzall with the 9.0 battery for $250 it's an amazing deal.
Yup, the older style were a pain in the a$$ to change the blade. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the tip!
I'll check it out thanks.
Lol the drill cutting was strangely satisfying!...
I thought so too! Thanks for watching Randy.
Quite educational. Designer sheet metal jobs made easier
What did the drill do to upset you?

Yup, if you're transporting the saw, it's definitely a good idea to remove the blade! Thanks for watching.
That was stupid of you . . . .
Cutting that drill was more bizarre than any angle grinder vid I ever saw anywhere
Can you resaw with this tool?
Awwww... wish I had seen this before I hacked up my defunct Ryobi petrol trimmer with sheer brute force and it was unyielding!
I want a ripsaw blade like those on a pruning saw. Have you seen one ?
is the sub compact model strong and durable as this long body model?
Can reciprocating saw cut steel pipe
YES, WITH THE CORRECT BLADE
do DeWalt blades work for this saw because I can't get them to stay in?
I’ve tried different blades yet my Ryobi reciprocating saw and jigsaw shake so much when I use them. It’s here just cutting through 2 x 4s yet ever video I watch people are cutting effortlessly. What am I doing wrong?
I call it the foot, hold against that firmly so the saw doesn’t move, don’t fight it just hold against foot ‘support’.
nice Sir! only one tool was hurt in making of this video:-)
lol ... thanks for watching Mahendra!
Just what I needed to justify my purchase from Home Depots credit card solicitation.Look out world here I come!
G’day Colin who needs sparks when you cut a drill in half
Not to mention removing the danger of those fast spinning emery cut off disks.
Yup, grinders can be far more "exciting" to us!
I have a problem bending blades. What causes this?
POOR TECHNIQUE AND THINNER, CHEAPER BLADES
You know what......I want you to see how well this blade cuts through.......hmmmmm..... what else do I have in here that I want to buy an updated version.....
Bi blade 's are great 's ! Cobalt 's are expensive's ! Low cost are $ save ! Easy 's ! Talks ! Easy earn's !
The better the blade is, you also get more run time out of your cordless tools battery.
Good point Joe!
Oh my. You killed the drill :(
It was dead already ... shhhh ... don't tell anyone ;)

Don't quite understand that, Adam. Is 'show' a typo? Can you tell us more?
@@ardwych4881 Presumably meant to say wears down near the shoe.
Damn, why did you cut the drill though?
Maybe I missed it have you ever replaced the batteries inside your battery. I had done and they last longer with more poo

heyy Colin, Why did you killed that drill?? Lol!!
It was dead already ... I just made smaller pieces!
WoodWorkWeb Just kidding Colin, my respect to you and your work, thanks for sharing your videos, i learn a lot from you.

i have some ryobi drills i can send you
why is there alot of wobble
you can't go wrong with makita
Agreed!
you said you would come back to the pruning blade and you forgot. I bought one and they dont cut anything......

No, not that drill, the other o.......too late.
You should not be touching the blade with your hand on the trigger and the battery in. Bad idea, I don't care if it has the safety on it.
