"Well it was 20 years ago today..." This was my first real concert: INXS, Iggy Pop, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Stereo MCs, Belly, Matthew Sweet, The Posies, X and Velocity Girl at RFK Stadium in DC on July 3, 1993. I wore my Morrissey "Your Arsenal" t-shirt and had an unforgettable time!
It was 1993, HFStival @ RFK in DC, they opened the main stage. HFS always had a local band open the main stage. This was the first year @ RFK and probably the best concert I ever went to. INXS, Iggy Pop, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Stereo MCs, Belly, Matthew Sweet, The Posies, X, Velocity Girl, it just seemed everyband was at their best that day. Thanks to the uploader, this was a great day!
wow that video is...15 yrs old?time flies...it takes me back to my days as a geeky fanboy with a crush on Sarah=)...i'm not sure where this video was made but i'm pretty sure it was the side stage of the HFStival in DC(pretty large crowd)...saw them live many times here in DC/MD, hometown heroes, u know? thanks for the memories...
If today's darn kids could only grasp the vibe, the exhilaration of real bands playing their hearts out in front of an audience. NO AUTOTUNE, NO BACKING TRACKS. Thanks for the upload. This is so refreshing to stumble upon on youtube.
+Sam Vile 93 HFStival was the BEST show I've ever seen INXS play....that's probably the top memorable thing on that day....though there were LOADS of good bands there, like Velocity Girl....and remember the muggy heat as well....good times....good times (Stereo MCs, Matthew Sweet, Iggy, Ned's Atomic Dustbin)
They were for those of us who cared back then, and still do. Sad that I never did get to see them live, but that applies to practically every other band that I've ever dug. I was one of those people that spent too much time and money buying and listening to recordings, instead. I'm hopeful that their recent reunion/reformation is sustained for a while, and maybe they make their way out west. 🙏
Somebody put up a whole bunch of videos from a show three years later, where they're touring in support of Gilded Stars/Zealous Hearts. Compare the energy and looks on their faces here with those videos.
@wtfnojimmy I don't see why people are giving this comment a negative rating, of course Sarah Shannon wasn't Scully but it's still pretty funny, and you've gotta admit there's a minor similarity.
She also was in a band with Jim and Kelly of velocity girl called starry eyes that released an ep. It was really good. I wanted more and was hoping for a full release and a tour, but they only played a handful of dates and disappeared.

Belly, Matthew Sweet, The Posies and Velocity Girl. wow.
This the hfs right? I found Sharon in the crowd she was wearing green pants. Best show of my life.
i first heard Velocity Girl in '91-92, i was in my thirties then and thought they were great. i still think theyre great! cheers 🥂🧓
A piece of magic. Beautiful.
I have fond memories of my hair.
?
@@scoutlikestopoop7887 Kelly Young (Riles, at the time) was a guitarist and founding member of Velocity Girl. Apparently, he is now bald as an egg.

It was the HFS, I think we may have been one of the last local bands the allowed to play on the main stage.
Hey man, some of us remember still!
I still love this band to bit, and hold out hope they will one day play again, anywhere, and I can go see them again.
How about that. Got my wish! Gonna see their show at the Black Cat in DC in November. Woo! Patience paid off.
Tracklist:
1: 57 Waltz 0:00
2: Not at all 2:46
3: Audrey's Eyes 4:24
The last song is “Crawl,” which was the flip side to “Warm,” an early Velocity Girl 45.
What
@@JoeDonFan no, Warm/Crawl were on the same b-side. Tsunami was the band on the A-side.
Chris: You’re right and I’m wrong. Thanks for setting it straight.
I fouled that up, eh?
What a great band they were. Wow. Memories.
never got to see them live so this is great! thanks for posting.

I love HFS festival! I was there. Great line up. I remember it was hot as hell.

It was hot! Massive water fights in stands. Projectiles included.
im old. was 19 at this show. Audrey's Eyes from Copacetic album should have landed Velocity Girl a 'best new artist' grammy.
these should have been massive

Great local band along with Tsunami and Unrest. VG definitely went the furthest of the lot.
@kazpereira
"Not At All" isn't from Copacetic. And I don't know where the last song is from.
7 years later, here you go: the last song is Crawl, the second half of the awesome early Warm/Crawl single.

What a voice ❤️. Did Sarah ever do any solo work after VG?
Yes, she did an album called Marzipan.
She also was in a band with Jim and Kelly of velocity girl called starry eyes that released an ep. It was really good. I wanted more and was hoping for a full release and a tour, but they only played a handful of dates and disappeared.
Stay tuned.
@@qbsports8745 that was an odd cassette-only, self release. Stay tuned...

i like the drummer's casual, brolax style

not enjoying the attempt at sex appeal
Sarah didn't have to attempt anything; she just had it.
