I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial Adam!! I'm working on a giant hand reverse marionette from packing tape and needed better structure inside, researched all over the Internet and Amazon trying to find anything that would help me shape these - the tubing idea is brilliant and a lifesaver! Great hack and thank you so much!!
I'm just now working my way through this puppet making series. I LOVE that you are so willing to share your amazing puppet building ideas. This hooping idea will be the perfect fix for my two headed dragon full-body puppet dilemma. I was so focused on how to sew the boning on the inside of the dragon body, but, (DUHH, head smack) making a lining was the perfect answer. I also loved that you used the tote material for mouth pieces. I can't count the number of totes I have thrown away because the lids get cracked - great use for them from now on and "save the planet" too. Thanks sooo much!! You are a boon to the art. Looking forward to more videos.
Puppet stands: the hardware store has table legs ranging from short to long. They're cheaper and way lighter than plumbing parts and screw right on with four wood screws. And they've got stainless steel ones that look real sharp for the window display.
You are the best. I made my first puppet for our Vacation Bible School. He was aqua blue fleece and his name was CP32O. He was well liked. The little girl making him move fell in love with him and I had to let her take him home.Thank you for all your help.
@@PuppetNerd You are awesome! Followed you on twitter. I am a kids pastor for a living and use puppets on the regular. One of the best parts of what I do and looking forward to learning how to make them by following your videos. You deserve more attention.
I had a thought idk though old glow stick necklaces could mab thg be used recycling lol but I love your videos thank you for all the tips and tricks you explain very thoroughly
I’d be really interested in more mech stuff. I finished my first blinking eye mech from your last video and I’m really pleased with it 😃 If you had a patreon I would support these videos
TreeMan try experimenting and making some mechs with simple techniques! He has some videos explaining what he does but it’s not a tutorial but that’s okay because you just have to experiment!
Im not really sure why that video would be. A sack puppet doesn’t have any form to it other than the hooping. And I already did a video on making live hands. It’s really just following a pattern. I might do a time lapse on it sometime.
I would love to see how the snout/nose/beak is done in the puppets, like in Howie (have no idea how to spell his name). For instance...is it done in the foam stage or like how you do the brain on the sock puppet? Having a go at a sock puppet, your design, this week, the fur got delivered today. Time to see how bad my hand sewing technique has gotten since the 30+ years I learnt it at school.
I am psyched! I am just getting started in puppets, and this is to make them for puppet shows performed by kids. Wondering how to make an oval head for a sack puppet, also reducing overall size for small hands? Ur orange guy has a nice oval head making for a bigger smile!! Thx for everything! I will be a follower as you go!
Adam Kreutinger there’s some characters like Cantus from Fraggle Rock that have a paint work in the fur, like a gradient, or some shadows. It would very nice to learn about that, what kind of paint works on fur... and about the painting in the eyes, I’m talking about that nice finish that you do like a spraying paint ;)
I will at some point. I have a pattern available on my website. But there isn’t much to show in a video since the body is just fabric. A video would be just sewing. And I already have a sewing tutorial on my channel.
Great video, as always. I didn't see the twill tape link. I'd like you to get your affiliate credits for it when I purchase through Amazon. Will you post your links for it? Thanks Adam K .
Alan White hey Adam starting 3rd puppet thanks to your your youtube tutorials which are the best out there, was watching the tutorial on sculpting your own design with monster clay ,is there an alternative clay that masking tape or gaffer tape would stick to .
The only structure that is built is the head. Which I already have two videos on. The body is just sewing. I’m not sure what I would even say. I might do a time lapse video.
Hey Adam, i was wondering about normal puppets like rod puppets im thinking of making one of me and im thinking of putting those wierd bendy metal things in his arm so he has poseable arms is that a good idea?
I am not making a sack puppet, but I am making a bunraku style puppet similar to the Timon puppet in the Lion King Broadway. Would it be better to use hooping or make the body solid?
@@PuppetNerd Wow, thanks! Also, do you think you can do any tutorials or point me to a maker who do similar body puppets like the Timon puppet? It's been crazy difficult to find tutorials or a supply list for those types of puppets and I am such a newbie!
Love your videos so much! Super helpful :) Have you ever tried to make modular puppets? Say for example if I wanted to make puppet parts and just do a Mr. Potatohead style configuration to make different characters so that you wouldn't have to make so many individual puppets?
Not really. Sometime I need to do that with eyes to make different expressions. But you could. I try to focus on giving the puppet as much character as I can.
I mentioned that i needed something like this to my mom and she said the ladies she sews with use the hard plastic material that they wrap lumber or like large cardboard boxes (like TV boxes) to make stuff stronger on purse edges. Went to home depot and they let me take all of it i wanted for free. So theres a free option.

Hello Adam do you have any videos on making a Sack Puppet? Like the monster or the wolf puppet you hace in this video.
No but I hope he does!
Im not really sure why that video would be. A sack puppet doesn’t have any form to it other than the hooping. And I already did a video on making live hands. It’s really just following a pattern. I might do a time lapse on it sometime.
So is it like you live hand puppet video but no foam structure for the body?
And that would be cool in a time lapse
Hi Adam. I'be very keen to see a video of you making the body of a sack puppet.
A puppet stand tutorial would be great!
Cut off a square piece of wood then drill down either a pipe or wooden dowel to the middle, maybe add some cushioning at the top and you're done.
I would love to see how the snout/nose/beak is done in the puppets, like in Howie (have no idea how to spell his name). For instance...is it done in the foam stage or like how you do the brain on the sock puppet?

Hey--I found it: www.adamkreutinger.com/patterns.html Perfect!
Tks again for your work, great tips! I would like to see some painting work like how to paint fur and how to do that paint in the eyes ;)
Those seem very specific to a certain character. What did you have in mind?
Adam Kreutinger there’s some characters like Cantus from Fraggle Rock that have a paint work in the fur, like a gradient, or some shadows. It would very nice to learn about that, what kind of paint works on fur... and about the painting in the eyes, I’m talking about that nice finish that you do like a spraying paint ;)

You can also use gaffers tape to make your tubing, just sandwich the boning between two parts of gaffers tape
Hey Adam when are you going to make a sack puppets
I will at some point. I have a pattern available on my website. But there isn’t much to show in a video since the body is just fabric. A video would be just sewing. And I already have a sewing tutorial on my channel.
Hey Adam! What patterns does the big Mack come with because I might want to make a replica!
Hmm. I’m not sure what you are asking.
@@PuppetNerd I'm assuming he's talking about the "Big Mack" puppet pattern you have on your website.
ładne Muppety pan tworzy👍
Could these same methods be used for walkaround puppets like big bird or bear from bear in the big blue house?
Sure can!
You can/could also use Ratan cane, for hopping.
You could. But I think it would be a bit brittle.
Adam Kreutinger I don’t know if you’ve seen this 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/L9O3KWrvxKA/v-deo.html

hey Adam starting 3rd puppet thanks to your your youtube tutorials which are the best out there, was watching the tutorial on sculpting your own design with monster clay ,is there an alternative clay that masking tape or gaffer tape would stick to .
You could really use any clay. I just recommend monster clay since it is reusable.

The only structure that is built is the head. Which I already have two videos on. The body is just sewing. I’m not sure what I would even say. I might do a time lapse video.
Does this mean you have new puppets for sale on eBay now?
Tank you for making eyes moving puppet
Hey Adam, i was wondering about normal puppets like rod puppets im thinking of making one of me and im thinking of putting those wierd bendy metal things in his arm so he has poseable arms is that a good idea?
If you put wire in the arms you won’t really be able to move them. But if the character of holding an instrument or something, it should work fine.
Can you do how to make a puppet stand and a puppet rack
Will do!
It happened thank you so much
I am not making a sack puppet, but I am making a bunraku style puppet similar to the Timon puppet in the Lion King Broadway. Would it be better to use hooping or make the body solid?
Either would work. Hooping might be lighter and easier to store.
