I currently own a blue one..2005 gti180 and i can confirm that they are tonnes of fun...ive left my traction control on and they grip like fuck but they also feel abit boaty on the long sweeping bends..not to expensive to run either..£60 to fill the tank and ive done over 700 miles in mine(since jan this year) as i always make sure i have half a tank left before i need to fill up again...insurance is quite cheap i pay £700/yr or £58/pm and tax is £35 pm but i am over 35 as these cars ARE performance cars due to the bhp they run from factory which is 177bhp hence why its called the GTI180...anyway beautiful car..theyre getting rarer by the day
I've got a 1.6 liter 206 sedan. It has 140,000 km on it and It's quite reliable as long as you change the oils, fluids, and belts regularly. I wish I could buy the GTi 180 but it's not available in my country. btw, that anti pollution fault may be due to a used up catalyst converter.
Thanks for commenting, yes they seem to be reliable mechanically, it's just the electrics that let them down. You might be right, I think it was the exhaust change which caused it to flag up.
Literally just made a similar video and yours popped up lol. You don't have to let any lights go out when you start mate thats just diesel cars with glow plugs. Nice little motor you have there :-)
Thanks mate, I'm not really sure to be honest, I think I read it here: www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/peugeot-forum/121750-cold-starting-206-gti.html - probably makes no difference though lol. Not had it long but it's good fun, just had the oil changed on it :-)
Ryan D Honest don't listen to them lol, I've had more than enough cars and know which ones to do what with, you'll see quite a few of my old cars on my channel. Oil change is an easy enough job did mine the first day for the sake of £30 for Oil, Oil filter, new pump plug anf air filter its worth keep on top ;-)
Dayno There is a lot of talk on AussieFrogs about the whole letting the lights go out. What theyre getting at is let the fuel pump prime. Its because there are a lot that develop weird starting issues where they want to stall untill warm. It may or may not be an issue depending on if your fuel pressure completely drops over night etc. I had the starting issues but it all seemed to come down to the spark plugs. High quality iridium types fixed that for me. Even new cheap NGK plugs made it stall untill warm. But the moral there is all the advice to wait several seconds didnt mean much as it didnt affect it
Theyre amazing for the money. I paid $3600 Australian for one with 150,000km a couple years ago. An equivalent honda or golf or something was a lot more. And the base GTi here is super cheap, nobody seems to know what they are I think. Does yours have a de-cat? Im assuming the antipollution fault might be due to that. I have a "mini-cat" that stops any pollution fault despite having no cat
Agreed, very cheap for the performance I think. I haven't had the chance to try, but I shouldn't think there is much in this and say a Clio 172/182, Type R Civic, etc. I quite like how the 180 doesn't look massively different to the regular GTI or even normal models, makes it an unassuming little car, especially if you debadged it which I thought about doing. The exhaust that's on it I'm told is a 'cat-back' system so I assume that the cat still remains.
I love unassuming. Police in Aus dont even look at my 180, they assume Im an old lady. Police here will go for certain cars, like older BMWs or Skylines. And any well known/recognizable car that is known for being modified, like type R Hondas. Golf GTIs tend to stand out too with their wheels and badge. But thats why I like Peugeots here in Aus, any Peugeot 206 or Renault Clio is just ignored. By the way these are identical to Clio Sports in pretty much every way, track times/specs/engine design/car design/0-100/handling/etc. Type R Civics are a mixed bag. Stock I think the 180 is better, but Hondas do tend to have highly modifiable engines that will make a lot of reliable power without blowing up, and therefore have a bigger following and parts market for such endeavours. But realistically I dont want to mess with my cars THAT much. I tell you the one thing that could be better about the 206gti180, is the first gear ratio, and/or having a whole different 6 speed gearbox. As it stands 1st gear is a bit too long. Just a little
Many people diss the 180`s and say there slow, put it this way ive raced many cars mini cooper s m3 imprezas clio 172 182 bmw 520d audi a4 tdis and so on and the 180 in no way is slow.
No it definitely wasn't slow at all, didn't get a chance to race anything but I reckon it would keep up with some of the cars you've mentioned, can't complain for a grand. Thanks for commenting.

The 180 has 177 bhp standard. The 137 bhp version isn't the 180 that the standard gti

Awesome car, I got a red one, very nice to drive.
I agree Aidan, good price compared to the other cars like type r Honda's, golf's etc
I've sold it now but it was a good fun car to drive, quick and handled well.
Do you still own this?
No, long gone. Not sure if it's still about.
