Fun Fact: the place they filmed all this was in my hometown in Southern Utah! I used to work at the spa/golf course where they filmed it! anytime anyone would come swim at the pool they’d freak out about swimming in the same pool as Zac Efron 😆 In one of the buildings there they have a plaque and some pictures of the cast and crew with autographs too. it’s pretty cool, absolutely love this movie! thanks for always putting out awesome content! 🤍
Yeah all true movies are filmed in Utah. The high school scenes are filmed in my hometown’s public school near Salt Lake City. Sharpay’s famous hot pink locker is still there, and everyone gets to see it when they tour the school.
The song "I don't dance" has so much hidden meaning. It's confirmed by Kenny Ortega that Ryan is gay, although he was never "out" it was always implied. It's speculated by fans that Chad might be gay also and Ryan is trying to show Chad it's ok, but Chad won't admit it to himself cause of his friends. It's why every time Chad says "There's just one little thing/ That stops me every time, yeah" the camera pans to his friends. It's really subtle hints and it makes it all the better. Since at this age of Disney they didn't really show gay support clearly. It was always hidden. After the song, Kenny had mentioned to them about switching hats, which led to them switching outfits altogether. The "true" reason is meant to show the jock and the theater kid could get along and find common ground. Though I think Kenny knew what he was doing. Kenny knew Disney wasn't ready to cross that line, he knew having Ryan be openly gay could be a major thing in a film with much success. So adding these subtle hints was great.
You go a bit hard on Taylor, and in the first and third movies she does deserve it. But in this one Taylor actually really does do Gabriella a solid. Reminding Gabriella that a man shouldn't forget important stuff, telling her that Troy was getting up close and personal with a girl who Troy KNEW was interested in him, that was really important backup for Gabriella that she wasn't imagining things.
WHAT TIME IS IT? BILLY TIME! This is mostly people’s favorite HSM out of the trilogy. Personally, it’s the first one for me because it’s a classic. But still, very nostalgic for me as a little children lol that feel good summer DCOM. Can’t wait to watch!

TO BE FAIR THO the marketing for this film was INSANE. i had cds, dolls, dance mats, and video games for hsm 2 when i was a kid and i think i watched it more than the first one, especially at slumber parties. also since it takes place in the summer, that soundtrack was always playing at elementary school pool parties. it was such a better and simpler time 😮💨
My favorite part of this movie is Zac Efron was also shooting Hairspray so he had to dye his eyebrows black and they just look so overly intense with his normal hair (and yes he does sing in this one and the 3rd one)

I feel like the vibe of this movie makes a lot more sense when you know that Kenny Ortega is a gay theatre kid lmao. This is definitely the most dramatic and campiest out of the three movies and personally, I live for it. This is my favourite movie out of the three and my favourite song is Troy's solo 'Bet On It' but his solo in HSM3 'Scream' is REALLY good too and the budget increase really ups the visual experience in HSM3. I think you'll definitely like HSM3 more, it's way more grounded and has more of a serious blockbuster musical energy (it was actually released in movie theaters unlike HSM1 and HSM2) than this movie which has more of a fun summer theatre production energy to it.
As a 12 year old, I felt like Troy was a jerk for his behavior... as a 27 year old, I feel like his friends suck for standing in his way. All he had to do was sing a song with Sharpay and entertain her foolishness for a scholarship. 🙄 The only person that had a reason to be angry is Gabriella because he forgets about their dates... But that's still not a big deal. 🤷🏾♀️
Gabriella wasn't even that mad at Troy, more disappointed and fed up and I feel like her breaking up with him was pretty warranted. But she was more mad at Sharpay for being manipulative.
The dance break in I don't dance is the best part of the whole movie!! I watched this as a kid and loved that scene and still love it to today. I knew Billy would love it!

I love this movie and yes Zac actually sang for this movie and Lucas (Ryan) sang the song that was playing in the Mustang. My siblings and I got this movie for Christmas in 2007. And we watched it every day for a few months.
Don't know if someone has mentioned, but Lucas Grabeel (Ryan) had knee surgery before they began rehearsals for this movie. He said while doing "I Don't Dance" he was wearing two knee braces and a back brace and every time Kenny Ortega called cut, he would just collapse in pain.
HSM2 is the best one to me nobody can change my mind Sharply wasn't the villain she literally helped so many people. Always worked hard and never asked for help. She helped Gabrielle with vocal lessons, Troy get a job and better grades and he still treated her like crap when all she wanted was to perform with him just once.

It was ICONIC to watch Zac Efron run around like a fool for 2 min straight as a little children! That shit was the best! 😌🤣 Real note though - I feel like they low key did Zac dirty with his “choreography” and performances. We’ve seen him pull off pretty good foot work; they could’ve done something completely different, like what they did with Chad & Ryan. Loved that you picked up on Ryan and Chad lol. Kenny definitely wrote Ryan as gay but couldnt pull the trigger due to Disney and he absolutely coded Chad as a closeted bisexual and really did that entire scene perfectly for the fans he knew would pick up on it without p*ssing off the ones who wouldnt AKA the ones who would have an issue with any LGBTQ representation in the films.

The series started with them already in Junior Year, but they were on winter break, so the first HSM was about December to January. The second movie is the same summer of their Junior Year, and the third is their entire Senior Year

Vanessa always has the best song in every movie! The first 2 were Disney Channel movies, but the third one had a much bigger budget and was a theatrical release. The music for the third one is by far the best from any of the movies so you definitely need to check that one out soon!

While I am not crazy for the actual movie, the soundtrack still slaps except for two songs. “I don’t dance” is obviously the best song. Parents and kids jammed to this song. I personally like the I can't dance song mainly because they sing it while dancing so its very ironic. Also I think the 2nd is better for the music. Many speculate that actually Gabriella is the antagonist because sharpay was having him meeting people and giving him a career boost and all Gabriella wanted to do was play in the pool and sing. Now, to ease stress is senior year, many schools start prepping for college junior year by fillimg out applications and getting everyone mentally prepared and start planning their future whether they go to college or not.
I think if Gabriella acted like troy in this film or later, I would say the same thing. I get taking once in a lifetime opportunities, but he was getting a big head and disrespecting his friends which wasn’t right. Also, he kept breaking his promises to them which can be annoying. He should have least talked to people when last minute plans came up. He had time playing on the court, but no time to come clean to his friends. I did not mind too much because at least they showed him as flawed and giving him an arc.
A lot of people say Gabriella was dtm and that sharpay was just helping but I so disagree. Sharply had her own manipulative motives and Gabriella was reacting to Troy switching up like any 17 year old would

This is definitely the most dramatic and campiest out of the three movies and personally, I live for it. This is my favourite movie out of the three and my favourite song is Troy's solo 'Bet On It' but his solo in HSM3 'Scream' is REALLY good too and the budget increase really ups the visual experience in HSM3. I think you'll definitely like HSM3 more, it's way more grounded and has more of a serious blockbuster musical energy (it was actually released in movie theaters unlike HSM1 and HSM2) than this movie which has more of a fun summer theatre production energy to it.
As a 12 year old, I felt like Troy was a jerk for his behavior... as a 27 year old, I feel like his friends suck for standing in his way. All he had to do was sing a song with Sharpay and entertain her foolishness for a scholarship. 🙄
The only person that had a reason to be angry is Gabriella because he forgets about their dates... But that's still not a big deal. 🤷🏾♀️
Gabriella wasn't even that mad at Troy, more disappointed and fed up and I feel like her breaking up with him was pretty warranted. But she was more mad at Sharpay for being manipulative.

The dance break in I don't dance is the best part of the whole movie!! I watched this as a kid and loved that scene and still love it to today. I knew Billy would love it!

I remember having all the dolls from this movie including Sharpay’s car. I remember sitting down in my Fiona from Shrek chair and my Dad giving me dinner in my room just to watch this premiere. I miss the early 2000s where things weren’t as problematic as it is now.

It’s okay to not like this one Billy 😂 it’s just funny because for most HSM fans this is their favorite of the trilogy. Music-wise, this and HSM3 are my faves. But the first one is a classic so I absolutely understand. It’s different for me though because I grew up with all 3 movies.

Don't know if someone has mentioned, but Lucas Grabeel (Ryan) had knee surgery before they began rehearsals for this movie. He said while doing "I Don't Dance" he was wearing two knee braces and a back brace and every time Kenny Ortega called cut, he would just collapse in pain.

The series started with them already in Junior Year, but they were on winter break, so the first HSM was about December to January. The second movie is the same summer of their Junior Year, and the third is their entire Senior Year

Vanessa always has the best song in every movie! The first 2 were Disney Channel movies, but the third one had a much bigger budget and was a theatrical release. The music for the third one is by far the best from any of the movies so you definitely need to check that one out soon!

I personally like the I can't dance song mainly because they sing it while dancing so its very ironic. Also I think the 2nd is better for the music. Many speculate that actually Gabriella is the antagonist because sharpay was having him meeting people and giving him a career boost and all Gabriella wanted to do was play in the pool and sing. Now, to ease stress is senior year, many schools start prepping for college junior year by fillimg out applications and getting everyone mentally prepared and start planning their future whether they go to college or not.

I get taking once in a lifetime opportunities, but he was getting a big head and disrespecting his friends which wasn’t right. Also, he kept breaking his promises to them which can be annoying. He should have least talked to people when last minute plans came up. He had time playing on the court, but no time to come clean to his friends.
I did not mind too much because at least they showed him as flawed and giving him an arc.
